Google Takes Care of Idiots Too

Google Takes Care of Idiots Too

by: Alexis Dawes

Thereกs an old saying that goes, กGod takes care of babies and idiots.ก

Truly this statement applies to me, because when it comes to my search engine optimization skills, Iกm on the idiot side of scale. But thatกs okay because idiots are loved, and can easily survive in the search engine game too.

Let me explain.

Although NONE of my 6 web sites rank in Googleกs top 10 (or top 20 and 30 for that matter), and I only advertise 2 of my sites using AdWords, Google still helps me make a lot of money.

Thatกs probably because I went into this search engine optimization ‘thingyก with a grain of salt. I don’t keep any secret arsenals of software tools that reverse engineer web sites to figure out why their ranking high. I haven’t read any of the latest musthave volumes on search engine optimization. (Although they’re on my todo list when and IF business ever slows down.)

And still my MVP Google does its best to make me happy. And I do my best to give its searchers relevant content. But not in the way that most SEO savvy webmasters would recognize.

กItกs actually very easy to get traffic from Google if you think outside the box.ก

My strategy for getting traffic from Google is quite simple.

You see I don’t go out of my way looking for link partners. My sites are basically 12 page sales letters, and nobody wants to link to me, unless they’re getting paid.

Nor do I put a tremendous amount of effort into onpage optimization. I sprinkle my targeted keyphrase here and there, and Iกm done with it. I write for my paying customers.

What I do is follow this process:

I find other established sites that already have good PageRank and adequate incoming links.

I make sure these sites add new content every day. Sites with frequently added content get visited by the Googlebot often… sometimes every day.

I then place an advertisement on these sites, promoting my actual web site. When the Googlebot pays these sites a visit, the ad itself (NOT my web page) is ranked in Google for the keyphrase Iกve used. On many occasions my adกs have reached the #1 position in Google for my targeted keyphrase, in as little as 48 hours.

กWhere can you readily find such sites?ก

Believe it or not, a handful (literally a handful) of classified ad sites fit the description to a tee.

Backpage.com (http://www.backpage.com/) is one of them.

Backpage.com is a free classified ad service run by New Times, a publisher of alternative news weeklies. They offer classified ad listings for 14 US cities. However even if you’re not in one of their specific cities, you may still place an ad.

Certain advertisements placed through Backpage.com have reached top 10 positions in Google. The adกs that get favorably indexed in top 10 positions normally have less competitive keywords in the title. My personal synopsis is that these are keywords that receive fewer than 3,000 searches a month, according to the Overture Search Term Suggestion Tool.

An example is กmobile pc repair.ก

This is a lowtraffic, but extremely targeted keyphrase.

If you do a search on Google for กmobile pc repairก youกll notice an ad placed on Backpage.com is featured in the #5 position. Okay, so itกs not the best advertisement in the world, but thatกs irrelevant.

The point is

The ad got indexed in a top 10 position in Google.

Backpage.com allows advertisers to include web site links in the advertisement. So even though this particular advertiser didn’t include his/her URL, they very well could have. This wouldกve generated traffic to their site.

กMy point?

This is cure for getting targeted traffic while waiting for your actual web site to get ranked.ก

Early February 2005 webmaster forums around the world were abuzz with groans, gripes and periodic fits of happiness.

Why?

Because Google was doing a major update (dubbed Allegra).

Sites that had ranked in the top 10 for years were being mercilessly tossed around. Other sites that hadn’t gotten any decent rank in the past were beginning to see the light. And still others didn’t notice any changes.

As for me… well my actual sites still didn’t rise much in the ranks. Iกm still hovering somewhere around #50+.

But that hasn’t phased me one bit.

I look at the big picture and understand that getting traffic from Google is much more than having my site reach the top 10.

If I have 50 advertisements (similar to the oneกs from Backpage.com) that are in top 10 positions, and they’re all delivering traffic from targeted keyphrases, I haven’t lost anything. All those keyphrases delivering trickles of traffic equal a flood of clicks and orders at the end of the day.

Not a bad deal for somebody whoกs SEO illiterate. I guess the old saying is true… God really does take care of babies and idiots.

10 Elements Every Direct Mail Piece Should Have

10 Elements Every Direct Mail Piece Should Have

by: Joe Niewierski

Don’t want your direct mail to end up in the trash with the rest of the unread mail? Studies show an effective direct mail campaign should draw a .5 to 1 percent response. These 10 tips will help you get the results you want:

1. A clear, bold headline. On the envelope or front of the mailer there should be one central message. The best way to achieve that is with a bold, clear headline that’s not cluttered up with other text. A good guideline is to have the headline fill up at least 15% of the front of the mailer.

2. A graphic that supports the message. The graphic should be easy to understand and add to the message the headline is trying to convey. For instance, if you are trying to get people to list their home you would want to show a home with SOLD sign clearly visible out front. That graphic reinforces the message more than a simple picture of a home.

3. Color that pops. Make the headline and other text stand out by using a color that stands out from the background color. When you look at the card, ask yourself, กWhat do I see first?ก If your answer isn’t the headline, you might want to tweak the colors.

4. Subheads that lead into text. If you have a couple of paragraphs of text with no lead in, there’s nothing to entice people to actually read the copy. A subhead will give people a place to start reading. If you have only a 100 words or so you may be able to get away with it, but if the text gets any longer than that the average reader will want to have some guideposts along the way.

5. Benefits, benefits, benefits. One of the biggest errors people make in advertising is stating features, rather than benefits. For example, never assume recipients know what benefit can be derived from a lower interest rate on their mortgage. Let them know how their monthly payments will go down.

6. The offer. An offer is always a good idea and should represent a specific reason to call now, such as ขLimited supplyข or ขInterest rates are climbing.ข

7. Your company name and logo. Although this needs to be on the mailer, it shouldn’t overshadow the offer. Customers care most about what you can do for them.

8. Call to action. Tell prospects exactly what you want them to do. ขCall today for more informationข or ขSee us onlineข are two of the most common desired actions.

9. Contact information. Provide your name, phone number, and Web address directly following the call to action. Whatever you ask prospects to do, give them the means to do it easily.

10. Return address. A return address ensures you’ll get returned mail from the post office and sends a message that you’re an established professional. People feel better knowing the company they’re dealing with has an actual location.

Writing eNewsletters – Tricks of the Trade

Writing eNewsletters – Tricks of the Trade

by: Glenn Murray

Follow 10 simple rules of thumb, and you’ll soon be writing great enewsletters and reaping the rewards.
Company enewsletters can be an amazingly successful marketing technique. Whether you want to upsell or crosssell, establish your brand or establish your authority, or simply reach a wider market, an enewsletter can do the job for you. You just have to make sure you write it right.
Television, radio, and print advertising are often too expensive for many businesses to justify – especially small businesses. Fortunately, there is an alternative. Today’s internet and email technologies make company newsletters a very inexpensive, yet surprisingly effective, form of advertising. When it comes to newsletters, big companies and small are finally competing on a level playing field.
So what is an email newsletter?
An emailed newsletter serves much the same purpose as a traditional company newsletter. Think of it as a short newspaper – but instead of relating to a town, city or country, it relates to your business. You can include articles on new products or services, awards, recent success stories and case studies, promotions, specials, share price rises, company events, research… And if it’s a quiet month, you can simply write articles that might help your customers out.
10 Steps to Success
Follow 10 simple rules of thumb, and you’ll soon be writing great newsletters and reaping the rewards…
1) Keep It New! Your readers won’t waste time reading something they already know, so make it news they can use.
2) Keep it personal: Always use your reader’s name. Make sure when someone signs up, you get their name, then use it in the subject line, in the greeting, and anywhere else you can.
3) Know your reader: Find out what your reader is interested in. Do some proactive research, invite response, or find an email marketing solution such as Ezemail** that tracks the links your readers click on and keeps a history of their activity.
4) Let them know you: Let your personality shine through. Readers are far more likely to become loyal if they feel they know you. Always include a bit of you in the newsletter, whether it’s humour, personal details, personal anecdotes, or personal views.
5) Subject is Headline: The subject line of an email newsletter is like a frontpage headline in a newspaper. You need to draw the reader in, so make it engaging and relevant (maybe promise a benefit) but no more than 25 characters so your reader can see it all before opening the email.
6) Use a Title bar: Make the most of the title bar to add visual appeal and establish brand awareness.
7) Make it ‘scannable’: Most people don’t read online – they scan. Make sure you use easytoread bullet points and subheadings. Don’t lose your reader’s attention. Reading is physically more difficult online, so make sure you’re concise. Use links to other places instead of writing long articles.
8) Use White space!: If your page is too busy, you’ll lose your reader. Give them a chance to absorb valuable information by dedicating about 30% of your screen real estate to white space.
9) Easy unsubscribe: Make your unsubscribe easy to find. If it’s obvious, they’ll feel safe and can then appreciate the content. To many people, the ease of unsubscribing is an indicator of the integrity of your company.
10) Forward to a friend: Include a link to encourage readers to forward the newsletter on to their friends and colleagues. Find an email marketing solution which allows you to do this and sit back and watch your database grow!

Jump Start Your Sales In 10 Quick Steps

Jump Start Your Sales In 10 Quick Steps

by: Mohamed Rabea

1. Combine a product and service together in a package deal. It could increase your sales. If you’re selling a book, offer an hour of consulting with it.

2. Out source part of your workload. Youกll save on most employee costs. You could out source your secretarial work, accounting, marketing, etc.

3. Ask people online to review your web site. You can use the comments you get to improve your web site or you may turn the reviewer into a customer.

4. Include emotional words in your advertisements. Use ones like love, security, relief, freedom, happy, satisfaction, fun, etc.

5. Take risks to improve your business. Sometimes businesses don’t want to advertise unless itกs free, sometimes you have to spend money to get results.

6. Model other successful business or people. Iกm not saying out right copy them, but practice some of the same habits that have made them succeed.

7. Remember to take a little time out of your day or week to brainstorm. New ideas are usually the difference between success and failure.

8. Start an auction on your web site. The type of auction could be related to the theme of your site. Youกll draw traffic from auctioneers and bidders.

9. Brand your name and business. You can easily do this by just writing articles and submitting them to ezines or web sites for republishing.

10. Find a strategic business partner. Look for ones that have the same objective. You can trade leads, share marketing info, sell package deals, etc.

4. Create two versions of your ezine so people can choose if they want ads included with it or not. Thisกll attract the people who hate ads to subscribe.

5. Publish your ezine only on your website. Have people subscribe to a กnew issueก email reminder. This could really increase your traffic and sales.

Paid To Read/ Paid to Click Programs: Can You Real

Paid To Read/ Paid to Click Programs: Can You Really Make Money From It??

by: Jon Dell

Paid to read and paid to click programs, otherwise known as PTR/PTC are legitimate online scheme that are now proliferating on cyberspace. This method is employed by many internet companies in their advertising campaigns. These companies pay people for reading emails. They pay you when you click a link in the email and visit the site that they are advertising, usually for a set amount of time. Others offer payment for surfing, clicking links, banner or just for joining or subscribing to a program. They also give additional money when you get other people to join under your link.

Some people say, itกs not worth they time. กYes they pay, but for a measly sum.. and it takes so much time and effort before you receive your checkก.

About two years ago, I joined some of these PTRE companies and started reading emails and clicking links hoping that I can earn some amount for my gas. I earned a few bucks after six months and I am tempted to stop. But I realized that I only did one part of the system. I never advertise and tell anyone about it… and thatกs the reason why I never accumulate my earnings.

The secret to making money on PTR/PTC is to build a network of members under your name. You see, these companies give additional bonus if those people under you read their emails. And thatกs where the real buck is. Imagine, if you have 10 people under you and those 10 recruited 10 each, you will then be entitled to some amount everytime those 110 people click their emails. The good thing is that most of these PTR/PTC pay up to 5 levels of your downline.

But certainly, you will not accumulate thousands of dollars reading emails and clicking banners. But if you have the habit of sitting in front of the computer daily, maybe, you might as well give this a try. Spending an hour opening your inbox will not harm you anyway. And sometimes, you can really find good offers and products that you do not find in your usual surfing cruise.

May I just give you a few tips in case you are tempted to join a few of these PTR programs. Before joining any program, it is important that you read exactly their offers. What you should look carefully are the following:

Payout Scheme: it is advisable to pick those that give low and reasonable payouts;

Mode of Payment: usually, most PTR/PC pay in check but others also offer payment through egold, paypal or stormpay. Select what will be the most convenient on your situation;

Pay rates: The range is usually from 1 cent to 10 cents, but others also give special rates for special click options and pay to join program;

Signup Bonus: Usually, itกs better to pick those that offer lower signup bonus. Those that give $50, $100 will put you waiting because, their payout will also be much higher.

There is one last thing: Joining too many PTRE programs may clutter your mailbox. For starters, it is advisable to pick at least 10. Make sure that these programs also give you some freedom to choose the type and categories of product ads that you wish to receive. That way, you can also have some enjoyment of viewing the offers.

To build you network, it is important to put those ten PTRE companies into one URL to make your referral task more easier. There are some sites that offer site consolidation.

One can be found at www.ptre.allreal.net.

Good for starters. If you join from their site, you also learn to setup your own mini website that will offer all the programs that you join.. all for free. I suggest that you visit the site to overcome your possible difficulty in building your downlines.

PTRE is all for real and its free. If you need money and looking for a job, certainly this can help. But never expect to get enormous riches out of it.

Promote With Simple กFolksyก HowTo Articles!

Promote With Simple กFolksyก HowTo Articles!

by: Ron Knowlton

When it comes to article writing, not everyone is a Dave Barry or even a Bob Leduc or a Kevin Nunley for that matter (three great article writers, by the way).

But really, thatกs okay.

There are simple yet effective articles you can use on your web site or send out (even if you aren’t a great writer) that can still work for you!

Here are three simple ideas:

1. A simple กfolksyก howto advice article will always pull in readers.

You don’t need to be a great writer!

Just write the way you talk!

You don’t need a long article either. One writer only provides three short tips in each article he writes (usually each tip is only one paragraph or so in length). And still he is able to get these short articles published.

Sprinkle these articles liberally on your web site. Or send them out to article announcement lists where newsletter publishers can see them and maybe reprint them in their newsletters.

For a list of article announcement lists, just type in กarticle announcementก or กarticle submissionก into your favorite search engine. It should return a pretty good list!

2. An honest yet กcontroversialก opinion will draw in readers.

You have to be careful with this approach however, because you may alienate some who would be your customers (now that they hate that terrible article you wrote saying those terrible things!).

Could be, though, that you attract more customers than you alienate and your กcontroversialก article proves to be a great hit (and sales puller as well).

And maybe it even pulls in some free publicity (don’t laugh it could happen newspapers, TV reporters, and even magazine feature writers are always looking for something unique or different!

3. Top 10 lists are still very popular.

Write a one sentence introduction and then present your top ten list.

Could be the 10 most unique ways people use your product.

Or … could be the 10 most common ways people use your product.

Or … how about the 10 least likely places where you would use your product.

Come up with a top 10 list with 10 unique or even offbeat ideas, and people will read them!

And there you have it how to write a great article even if you’re not the best writer on the internet!

How to Pick an SEO Firm

How to Pick an SEO Firm

by: Michael Murray

If you’re looking for an SEO firm, we recommend that you weigh 10 factors that can save you trouble down the road.

1. Check out their experience.

You shouldn’t have to try hard to find samples of their clients or their SEO performance on individual websites. How competitive are their search terms that are ranking well on Google? Are the search terms that are ranking well difficult terms to positionone, two and three word phrases, or are they easy terms to position because no one else is using them at allsix, seven and eight word terms?

2. Ask for testimonial letters.

Insist on letterheads from the clients that feature real names, not Fred from Cleveland or J.T. from New York. Call these references and ask them questions about the SEO performance of the company you are considering.

3. Ask them to document their process.

What policies and procedures do they follow? Are they consistent? Do they stay away from unethical procedures that could put your site in jeopardy with the search engines?

4. Get staff credentials.

Find out who is doing the work. You really need a team of people no one person can be proficient in every area of server administration, programming, marketing, writing, link building and more. Get to know the team a bit.

5. Be suspicious of money back guarantees.

Unless itกs superclear, you have to wonder about the details of the guarantee. If a firm offers one, including Top 10 placement, ask them to elaborate. Which key words are included? Just one Top 10? Do they plan to achieve Top 10 rankings among natural results or payperclick? Are the Top 10 listings associated with your web site or a supplemental web site the SEO firm controls?

6. Get pricing information.

Is the SEO contract for hourly, monthly or annual services? Get prices from a few other firms as well, but be aware that the scope of services may vary greatly from firm to firm. Insist that the firm you’re interested in explain why it charges more for services, if thatกs the case.

7. Ask about reporting. How many keywords will the firm handle? How many pages?

Find out whether youกll be able to access the latest data about your project. How often is it provided? Whatกs included? Some firms just send a ranking report. What other details can you expect in terms of the overall strategy, next steps, web site traffic and conversions?

8. Determine the firmกs ethical standards.

What are the firmกs practices when it comes to ethical standards and practices? How far will they go? How do they view doorway pages, cloaking and keyword stuffing?

9. Know your objectives.

You need to have some idea of what you want to accomplish when selecting an SEO firm. Do you simply want to promote your brand? Do you want to increase visitors and push traffic to retailers? Do you want to improve online sales? Which categories of products will matter the most in your campaign?

10. Come up with a budget.

You can submit your web site pages (not optimized) for free or through services that cost well below $100. Optimizing is another matterItกs going to cost money. Have some flexibilitythe level of service and the firmกs expertise will determine whether you pay hundreds of dollars or well over a $1,000 a month.

Learn To Embrace Failure

Learn To Embrace Failure

by: Lisa Saylor

Failure is a must to succeed in business and in life. So often we are told we can not fail, it’s a bad thing. From the time we start to school, till we go to the here after, fail, that 4 letter word is a bad thing. It is almost like a curse. My question is how do we learn and continue to grow if we don’t fail? How do we succeed in business if we don’t fail?

I started my first Home Based Business 2 years ago. I invested over $6000 just for the web site and the 10 mentoring sessions. That was on top of the $250 initial fees for set and a merchant account, that doesn’t include all the little fees (no one expects). What I received for this was an online store, web site, 2000 free useless hits, link exchanges (that I had to pay for and didn’t need to) and oh yes the useless mentoring sessions (that didn’t teach me anything). I worked hard on this site for 6 months (which doesn’t seem like a long time), except they told me I would be able to make back all my invested money in the first 3 months. I made nothing, and eventually lost over at least a $7000.00 before I decided to shut it down. To top it all off the company I went through gave me a hard time about shutting down the site and my merchant account. I had failed miserably. You would have thought that I would have been angry and upset, and initially I was. I received the ขI told you soข looks, the rhetoric 9 out of 10 businesses fail etc. when I told people my business had failed.

But what no one realized is that I had learned so much. Not only did I learn what not to do, I also learned, that regardless of my business ขfailing,ข that I loved the ownership of it and that no matter how many times the business didn’t pan out that I would continue to learn, grow, and to build businesses.

So since then I have looked over other online businesses, done background research, and have started another; that I am happy to say seems to be doing well. By failing, all that did was whet my appetite to do it again. 9 out of 10 businesses fail, but it is the 1 time that it doesn’t fail that I am after. So, when you look at your failures, look at them as a way to succeed, that has given you a wealth of knowledge and that knowledge is what you need to succeed in life and in business.

Easy Editing Using Microsoft Image Suite 10

Easy Editing Using Microsoft Image Suite 10

by: Blur Loterina

Are you fond of digital photography? Are you looking for a new tool that will let you organize, edit, enhance, share and archive your digital image? Read on.

Microsoftกs Digital Image Suite 10 is a package that offers you the advantages of both Digital Image Library 10 and Digital Image Pro 10. This upgraded image editing software is ideal for digital photos. With added features from Digital Image Library 10, you will be able to organize your photo collection. It helps you upload your photo easily. You can even rate images or flag them for future use. Library also allows you to add captions on your images and categorize them using some keywords. You can classify your images according to date, size, favorites, ratings and more. It has an automatic backup reminder to safeguard your photos in the right places.

This software will enable you to edit images with ease. Just launch the Digital Image Pro 10. It logically arranges your tools and enables you to make changes using the Auto Fix commands. Although, it offers fewer options and requires complex commands, it will provide you with excellent results.

Digital Image Suite 10 allows you to create a movie out of your photos. It’s a sort of a stop motion animation that’s commonly used in cartoon movies and clay animation. A stop motion animation is a process in which pictures are arranged and shown in such a way that it looks as if the motion is continuous.

Also, it features an easytofollow wizard that lets you to create a video out of your photos. Not only that, you can also add background music, narration and title pages.

It contains flags that will remind you of the next steps, such as which photos need to be printed or sent. With Auto Fixes, your camera phone images can now be adjusted. This feature helps you edit the color, exposure or any ‘imperfection’ automatically. You can also use the Color and Exposure toolsets to balance brightness, washedout colors, and the like.

This program also allows you to adjust curves including red, green, blue, saturation and luminosity. Also, you can eliminate noise, red eye effect, and faded or bright color pixels.

Another remarkable feature is the Smart Erase tool was added so that you can remove unwanted images or backgrounds. Its Panoramic Stitching feature enables you to put together vertical and horizontal photos to show the whole story in one single scene. It also allows you to burn images to CDs or DVDs.

Microsoft’s Digital Image Suite 10 is your complete tool for editing images, as well as adding life to your photos. One drawback is that it only allows you to edit images one at a time, which means that you cannot have two or more copies of an image when editing.

Youกve probably know many answers to this question: a good marketeer palces links, bad one don’t, good one makes surveys, bad one don’t, etc. All of these answers are right, but there is one key difference.

Iกm gonna share it with you. In a moment. But letกs start with a story first.

Do you remember that story about Henry Ford creating a 6cylinder engine? If not do a search itกs a great story to learn. What was his key to success?

Well, probably good intuition, and I can’t argue with that. But the point of the story is that he persisted on something nobody believed. Nobody else believed it is possible, but he insisted.

And his persistence paid up. So, the secret component in Internet Marketing is persistence. And persistence makes amounts.

For example: one link in your forum signature can make you 250 visitors (that wouldn’t make you any money probably, however nothing is impossible). But if you participate in 100 even notvery popular forums you’re gonna get 2005000 visitors. And if you sell something for $50 thatกs gonna make you on average $100$2500.

Do you see the point here? Letกs take a look at it in different way. Letกs imagine that you’re exchanging links. If you exchange with only 10 sites (which seems to be not very hard) you’re gonna get some amount, letกs say 10 visitors per day. And now imagine exchaging links with 1000 sites thatกs 1000 visitors. How to get thousand link partners? Well, get 10 each and every day and in 3 months youกll have a thousand.

And thousand links for search engines is way to understand that your site is relevant. Itกs pretty argueable point, but thatกs how Google, Yahoo and many others think. So thatกs how a marketeer should think. So get links and many of them. You know thatกs needed to be done, but why don’t you do that?

Do you know that you should post your articles to many sites? But why don’t you do that?

Be Persistent! I can’t stress that enough.

One of the biggest mistake of newbies is that they try something for a day or two, see no result and stop doing anything. Thatกs WRONG! Continue to do something for at least a month to see results, unless you have a million dollars to spend and nobody will ask where did it go. I doubt thatกs possible nowadays.

What to do about that? Here is the plan:

Ask yourself: what would be the best to do in next month that will get ABUNDANT result in future? Write that! And do that! Do you need to write 100 articles? Do that! Nobodyกs going to do that for you, unless, again, you’re too rich to do that.

Success is waiting for you, just be a lot more persistent. Remember, failure sometimes is a last step left to a great success. Many rich people will tell you that. Go ahead and ask them. And probably theyกll agree that you MUST be persistent in your goals.

1. So set a goal today 2. Start to do it 3. Don’t analyze results until you have done really massive result.
