Effective Networking for Professional Success

กHow to Make the Most of Your Personal Contactsก

by Rupert Hart, Stirling Books, 1997

ISBN 0 949 142 09 3

125 pages

We are all ขselfemployedข now.Today there is absolutely no job security. We are living in an age of corporate downsizing, and freelance consultants, or selfemployed workers are growing by the day. Networking is one skill you need to practice to get ahead and survive these uncertain times.

Wisdom in a Nutshell:

1. Networking is essential for both new jobs and business contracts.

2. Effective networking is 12 times more effective than answering advertisements

3. Advertising is becoming ineffective except on a large scale.

4. Networking helps you find hidden opportunities and can set you apart from the competition.

5. An indirect approach is better than a direct one. Use someone you know to introduce you to your target contact. Never go straight to your target without a gobetween who will put in a good word for you.

6. You can overcome your natural shyness, your fear of using people, and your fear of rejection.

The 3 key networking techniques are:

1. Build a network of partners to keep an open eye and ear for new opportunities for You.

2. Reach targeted individuals in two ways: directly or indirectly.

3. Build visibility by raising your profile. Go to every social gathering you possibly can.

Building your network is an ongoing process. You need to increase your range of contacts constantly.

Planning your campaign:

1. Define your objective

2. Select the right technique

3. Understand that ขdeal flowข or your number of prospects must be great in order to bag one new business contract.

4. Identify your target

5. Work out your positioning. This is a short statement of what you are about, what you can offer.

6. Think about what you can do for your network partners in exchange for information and contacts.

Building Network partners:

1. Talk to everyone you know about opportunities

2. Clarify what network partners can and will do for you

3. Know which contacts to build into network partners

4. Find those friendly network spiders, those types of people who just seem to know everyone.

5. Use the telephone.

How to grow and refresh your network:

1. Go out of your way to be where people are.

2. Get into the habit of being talkative.

3. Get the contact details of people you meet. Not just exchanging business cards but stapling information like birthdays, anniversaries, hobby clubs, and key information onto their cards.

4. Choose the right method for the right person.

5. Warm up longcold contacts.

How to find targeted individuals:

1. Focus on what you want to achieve and how people can help you.

2. Use your network partners to find suitable companies.

3. Gather key information on these companies.

4. Figure out who is the one with the power to hire you.

5. Find people connections and common areas of interest.

Reaching targets through network partners:

1. Find and persuade the best partner for your targeted individual.

2. Engineer an introduction.

3. Build wordofmouth exchanges about yourself.

Reaching targets directly:

1. Decide if you should write a letter or not.

2. Be able to demonstrate your achievements.

3. Have a line ready to get you past the secretary.

4. Act as though you expect to be put through.

5. Be ready to leave a short, persuasive message for the decisionmaker.

Your opening line:

1. Be cheerful, confident and straightforward.

2. Exploit connections and recommendations.

3. Mention common interests.

4. Report news of interest to the target.

5. Wait for a response. Know when to shut up.

6. Write down your opening lines before picking up the phone.

How to be visible without really trying:

1. Ask a question at a conference.

2. Make a point in a meeting.

3. Write letters to your industry magazine.

4. Introduce yourself to lots of people at an industry show or ball.

5. Buy people a drink at the bar at a lecture.

6. Discuss a book with an industry leader.

7. Wear bright ties.

8. Make people laugh.

9. Have an opinion on everything. (But keep an open mind)

10. Hand out an unusual business card.

11. Recast your CV to be a little different.

12. Take up an unusual hobby. (But not too unusual)

13. Don’t overlook using the email and Internet to communicate your cause.

7 Simple Ways To Boost Your EBook Sales

7 Simple Ways To Boost Your EBook Sales

by: Michael Southon

You can often dramatically increase your EBook sales by making a few minor adjustments to your sales page. Here are 7 ways to increase your EBook sales:

(1) Make sure your กOrderก link appears at least 3 times on your sales page.

(2) If your link currently says กOrder!ก, change it to กOrder via Secure SSL Serverก (if that is the case). I made this change about a month ago, and I noticed an immediate increase in sales.

(3) Offer a moneyback guarantee that makes it clear that you don’t mind refunding purchases.

(4) Add a กguaranteeก logo or icon to your sales page. You can find a variety กguaranteeก graphics at AltaVistaกs MediaSearch:

http://web.altavista.com/cgibin/query?cn=med

Click on the กradio buttonก that says กImagesก and then type กguaranteeก into the search box. AltaVista will return 20 pages of กguarantee iconsก.

(Before placing one of these graphics on your website, make sure it is not covered by copyright).

(5) Offer 2 or 3 chapters of your book free (in the form of a downloadable Trial version of your EBook). You could also allow people to read those same chapters online.

(6) Include a ‘table of Contentsก so that your visitors can see what your EBook contains.

(7) Keep your sales copy to one page. People are spending less and less time surfing the Web if your sales message is more than one page, your visitors will probably move on before reaching the end.

Ten Tips for Getting More Sales From Your Website

Ten Tips for Getting More Sales From Your Website

by: Michael Southon

(1) Create a Direct Response Website, with the minimum number of pages possible (e.g. an Index Page, a Contact Page, and an Order Page).

(2) Make sure your sales copy is positive and inspiring people buy things because they want to improve their lives.

(3) Identify a problem and show people how and why your product or service solves the problem.

(4) Keep your paragraphs short no more than 2 sentences per paragraph.

(5) Use bold headings to break up your sales copy into short chunks of text.

(6) Use a bulleted list to itemize the benefits of your product or service. Start each benefit with an action word: ‘turnก, กmakeก, ‘tripleก, กgrabก, กcreateก, กbuildก, กconvertก, กstartก, กchangeก, กdriveก, กorganizeก, กpromoteก, กdevelopก, กlearnก, กcompelก, กfillก, กattractก, กgetก, กearnก, ‘takeก, กdiscoverก, กproduceก, กfindก, กgenerateก, กacquireก. กinspireก, กsendก, กblastก.

(7) Give your visitors at least 3 order links (e.g. 1/3rd of the way down your page, 2/3rds the way down, and at the bottom). But don’t stop there turn some of your key phrases into hyperlinks that go to your order page. Here are some examples of phrases that you could link to your order page: กincrease your salesก, ‘take advantage of this offerก, ‘try it riskfree for 30 daysก, กget the following 5 bonusesก, ‘the competitive edge you needก, ‘this riskfree offerก.

(8) Use purple (#990099, R=153 G=0 B=153) text the color purple (used sparingly) has been shown to increase sales.

(9) Give a time limit most people are procrastinators.

(10) At the end of your sales copy make a call to action: กAct now don’t let this opportunity pass byก

7 Secrets to Explode your eBook Sales! Part 2

7 Secrets to Explode your eBook Sales! Part 2

by: Bluedolphin Crow

Secret #2: Creating your Marketing Timeline for Success!
Aho!
You can increase your sales and free time by creating your own marketing timeline. Marketing timelines are essential for all Internet businesses. They provide not only organization but a truly well defined goal sheet as well.
To understand your timeline is to understand your business. Can you really know where you are going if you don’t have a goal? I think not! Can you really tell how well you are doing if you are not logging your results? I think not again! Can you really tell what your profit margin is at this moment and will be next month at this time without tracking your sales, goals and future plans?
Well I think you know my answer by now.
There is tons of internet marketing กHow Toก infiramtion online. However have you noticed very few people teach you how to organize your information? Well, now you will know.
My marketing timelines include: goals present and future, Action plans for today and tomorrow as well as next month, and last but definitely not least you have a sales tracker as well.
Ok. Now take out a sheet of paper, and for computer lovers, open up your word processing program.
Letกs begin with our goal sheet.
On top of the page in BIG letters type:

Goal Sheet Short Term
Now grab another piece of paper, or another page, and on the top of that one in BIG letters type:

Goals Long Term
Next page write in BIG letters:

Action Steps Short term
And another page in BIG letters:

Action Steps Long term
One last page in BIG letters write: SALES
Now you have the foundation you need to begin really understanding your ebusiness as it grows and matures.
Grab a file folder, or on the computer, make a file folder that says: กMarketing Timeline.ก This folder will hold all your files.
Page one: Short term Goals: Make 3 columns.

Column 1: Date

Column 2: Goal

Column 3: Date completed Goal
Page two: Goals Long Term: Make 3 columns.

Column 1: Date

Column 2: Goal

Column 3: Date Completed Goal.
Page 3: Action Plans short term: Make 3 columns.

Column 1: Date.

Column 2: Action Steps.

Column 3: Date Completed Action Steps.
Page 4: Action Plans Long term: Make 3 columns.

Column 1: Date.

Column 2: Action Steps.

Column 3: Date Completed Action Step.
Page 5: Sales tracking Make 3 columns:

Column 1: date

Column 2: Sales

Column 3: Continuing Total.
I can hear a lot of you out there groaning, ‘there must be a way to automate this!ก and yes there is! However, I want you to do it manually when you first start your ebusiness. I have found that this will not only show you how you are doing and where you are and what has to be done to get to where you want to go. It also helps to seat all the information in your unconscious brain. Walla! Automating the Brain!
Really, I am serious. By doing this manually you will learn a lot more in the beginning and not have to learn it as you go along. For those of you that can’t wait to automate, I have included links to a lot of automated services and software in my eBook: กeBook Marketing Secrets Revealed.ก
Have a great week!

How To Find Your Perfect MLM Sponsor In 3 Easy Ste

How To Find Your Perfect MLM Sponsor In 3 Easy Steps Without Going Completely Insane

by: John Stafford

If youกve never had the experience you’re very lucky….

You just joined a great new MLM company and are excited and ready to go, you email your sponsor to find out whatกs next.

Days pass…

No response.

You try again but still nothing.

So, how do you avoid this terrible fate?

Iกm glad you asked, here are the 3 ways you can use to find your perfect MLM sponsor:

1. Find out if heกs active

Nothing drives me crazier then joining a company and finding out my sponsor isn’t doing anything to work the business.

If the company has a scoreboard or ranking site, see if heกs on it. Check out his websites in Google and see how they’re set up.

The important thing is to make sure heกs making an effort 🙂

2. Email or Call him

Take a minute กbeforeก you join up to email or call him with questions.

Ask him whatever you like and see if he responds.

Don’t think you’re bothering your prospective mentor, if heกs the right person he won’t mind.

3. Find out how long heกs been with the company

Another thing youกll run into is finding a sponsor thatกs been with the company a week and has no clue.

Now don’t get me wrong, itกs okay to be new but the กblind leading the blindก isn’t going to help anyone.

When you’re sending him the email from step 2 just ask him how long heกs been with the company and see what happens.

*Remember*

The relationship you’re forming will be lasting a really long time, you want to be sure heกs the right person to help you build your team.

Follow these steps and soon youกll find a sponsor you’re happy with that will help you take your new MLM business to the next level.

กDo Not Call Listก…Death Knell For Leads Program

กDo Not Call Listก…Death Knell For Leads Programs?

by: Michael Lemm

Iกd pay close attention to this for awhile. There are implications for leads programs especially.

In about 610 months or so your company is going to have to subscribe to the FTC กDo Not Callก (DNC) list of people that do not want calls. Even if it is an innocent prospecting call your company (& you) can get in trouble. The wife may have answered your ad, the husband may have put them on the DNC list. Bang….your company (& you) innocently gets burnt. The fines are pretty noteworthy so be careful.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/donotcall/index.html

Hereกs my general thoughts on this issue:

1. The leads companies will have to be VERY careful. Anyone selling leads had better make sure that they are truly กwaiting to hear from youก….optin permissive marketing compliant….fresh….yada yada. Any slip shod harvesting of leads without thorough scrubbing of their viabilty will lead to big trouble. I see a lot of leads companies going under….or just plane being scams hoping to make a quick buck and leave customers holding the bag.

2. The number of companies offering leads will likely decrease due to the effort, cost, and risk involved to ensure the leads are compliant. What will be left could be just a few expensive high quality companies….and a few scams after the quick score.

3. Those leads companies that กsurviveก will pass the increased cost on to the consumer….you. Meaning the cost of leads will likely go up significantly….regardless of the source.

4. Those who purchase leads will also be vulnerable to some extent (how much Iกm not sure) since they are the individual กcontactingก the lead. I doubt regulators and agrieved กleadsก will not hold those who contact them faultless. Since กweก aren’t employees of the leads companies we would have some responsibility/accountability attached. Their argument would be that we กchoseก to contact these people. As opposed to an employee of a telemarketing firm who is ‘toldก to make the contact.

5. If leads companies can navigate this challenge successfully….the resulting leads will truly be กqualityก. They will definitely be interested in being contacting. So this could be a silver lining…or glass half full….situation. However, it could well be at a higher cost than we now see.

6. Now….if you read carefully on the FTC website, it mentions that there is a period time of which someone can still be contacted.

a. If they were a customer, you may contact them for up to 18 months after the last business transaction.

b. If they requested information (as the website says, submitted an inquiry) you can contact them for up to 3 months.

Lead companies will have to provide Date/Time stamps and IP stamps with every lead. Is this hard? No, they do it anyways, so it shouldn’t result in large cost increases.

Additionally, all company/personal “prospecting” websites will need to contain language similar to this: กBy submitting your information you agree to be contacted by phone, email, or regular mail with information regarding a home based business, secondary income source, or a work from home opportunity.ก This will bind the user to 3 months of being contacted.

All that doom and gloom aside….what we hopefully will see is a drastic reduction of junk lead companies or companies that generate leads not targeted for our industry. Those that navigate the impending changes with quality compliant optin systems will survive and prosper. Those that don’t…..m’bye bye.

The 3 Minute Auction and Minute Auction Explained

The 3 Minute Auction and Minute Auction Explained

by: Renee Matt

Am I the only person who doesn’t know what a 3 minute auction is? Looking for fresh content for my site, I discover that กminute auction,ก or even a 5, 10 and 30 minute auction is a popular item. Some auction sites may refer to a minute auction as a กLive Bid.ก The กminute auctionก or ก3 minute auctionก actually comes the closest to duplicating the excitement (and anxiety) of a real auction. No, it is not the same as an Ebay minute auction.

I will give the example of Bidz.com. Bidz.com uses Flash technology to constantly update in realtime auction bids right before your very eyes! The price goes up, up, up and the time clicks away … down, down, down!. Add flashing green highlights for added new bids and red flashing for the ominous approaching 0 minute and to say the least, it is quite thrilling.

On the Bidz home page, there is a link that says 3minute auctions. This is a separate category all by itself. If you click that link you are taken to the 3 minute auctions, usually consisting of jewelry. (Note: See end of article for ‘the 3 minute auction too good to be true?ก)

A word of caution: It takes a little finesse to bid at these fastpaced auctions and I mean FAST! You must be EXTREMELY CAREFUL when bidding. The highest bid I came across on my visit was for $1500. My advice would be to practice on the dollar starting bids. Bids quickly escalate to $15 and $30. In the words of BidZ:

กIf you are bidding on items in the 3 Minute Auctions category, you will not be notified if you are outbid. These auctions move very quickly, so you have to monitor your winning bids very carefully.ก

Back on the 3 minute auction page of BidZ, what do you see? >From left to right: the product picture, the item number, title, price, bids, and time left. The กbidsก and the ‘time leftก are where the auction action is at. But just as its nearing 0 minutes left, it jumps up to more time left what gives? According to Bidz.com:

กIf the bid is placed during the last minute of an auction, the auction will be automatically extended for an additional 1 minute from the time of the latest bid. The auction will close once all bidding has stopped for a period of 1 minute.ก

OK I decide I am going to get in on this action. Registering is free (username must be a combo of numbers and letters). I have to click on the picture to go to the listing to actually bid according to Bidz.com directions below:

1) Simply use the กplusก and กminusก graphic keys to select the amount you would like to bid. The amount of the next bid is automatically one dollar more than the current bid. If you only want to place a one dollar bid, you can just click the Bid button without any adjustments.

2) Click the bid graphic button to register your bid. PROBLEM: I click the Bid! button and then find out I have to register my credit card in order to bid but they didn’t tell me that when I was registering (even though I quite expected it).

Another problem I encounter is a sluggish modem. By the time I reach the listing page and the picture and bid button loads, the auction can be over (sigh…).

Its not hard to become giddy over the amazing deals of a 3 minute auction…too good to be true? 3 minute auctions ‘typically offer expensive items, such as Cartier watches, Beanie Babies, computers, and cars at prices that are low enough to dull the scam alarm in most people.ก

This was taken from an auction fraud article. The same article reports that the Federal Trade Commission has identified a scam email that includes กLive 3 minute auctionsก in the subject line. See the details of the 3 minute auction scam at http://www.chiff.com/a/fSCAMauc.htm

For a list of minuteauction websites, refer to: The 3 minute auction list at http://shmyl.com/dpzison

My final words: The 3 minute auction and minute auction are the epitome of auction entertainment. So pop some popcorn, invite some friends over, and have yourself some Friday night auction fun!

3 Powerful Types of eBooks You Can Write and Sell

3 Powerful Types of eBooks You Can Write and Sell Online

by: Jeff Smith

A big part of knowing how to write and sell ebooks is understanding exactly what will turn a prospect into a hungry buyer.

As you may have already discovered in my กUltimate Information Entrepreneurกs Success Packageก, earning months and years of leveraged income from a few weeks writing has virtually NOTHING to do with your writing ability, but EVERYTHING to do with understanding how to identify and satisfy a raging hunger within markets.

When you think about how to write a sell ebooks, think about 1 of these 3 proven ‘typesก of infoproducts that will turn your prospects into buyers…

1. Innovator. You have identified a tip, technique or strategy that will go onestep further (incremental innovation) or take a giant LEAP forward (radical innovation) than is currently available.

To understand how to write and sell ebooks as the กinnovatorก, you have a very good grasp of both what the prospector is really looking for and what currently exists in your marketplace.

2. Collector. The value in this type of information product is to collect sources of information from a wide variety of sources and distill it down to the กbest ofก or a compilation of strategies aimed at satisfying a given market demand.

3. Investigator. Yet another method of how to write and sell ebooks, the investigator seeks to discover and prove the value of a given approach.

Discovery allows you to bring value by bringing to light littleknown or กundergroundก secrets to solving specific problems

Proving the value of a given approach is also of high value in this age of skepticism and doubt. If you can provide case studies to support a given approach, youกll be bringing extra value to the market.

Now, each of these approaches has its advantages and disadvantages.

When most people think of how to write and sell ebooks, they think of being collectors, however adding an aspect of innovation is how you can really differentiate yourself in your market.

Innovation allows you to claim ownership to solving an urgent and pressing problem for your market. Out of owership will come branding, and out of branding can come tremendous financial advantages.

I have used all 3 approaches and advise everyone who is serious about becoming an information entrepreneur and wants to know how to write and sell ebooks to use each approach.

In your market, you can likely come up with a combination of innovative solutions, compilations of tips and ideas, and journalistic ideas such as key interview subjects or candidates.

3 Steps To Turning กOKก Sales Into Unbelieveable R

3 Steps To Turning กOKก Sales Into Unbelieveable Results!

by: Jeff Smith

Have you noticed that 90% of กHow Toก information about creating and marketing your own informationbased products online is basic beginner stuff?

Yet, every week we hear from those looking for help taking their business to the next level.

Itกs true, the vast majority of dreamers never earn a cent because they simply don’t get started.

Most of the how to ebooks are aimed at this audience.

What about the large group who struggle to turn initial success into a massive success?

Now itกs true, we all want to constantly improve our businesses, meaning that we are never completely satisfied with our results.

Yet there is still a massive number of people who have achieved some initial success but not quite enough to both sustain and grow their business to the next level.

Do you fall into one of the following categories?

Working your online business parttime, hoping to replace fulltime job?

Working your online business fulltime, want to hire some help to free up more of your time to focus on growth

Finished testing your latest product or service, results look positive, but you really need to ramp up quickly to beat the growth curve.

Chance are you do fall into one of those categories they tend to fit most online entrepreneurs today.

Itกs so important to start with the end in mind.

Expect success, plan to achieve it and plan to exceed it right from the early stages of your business planning.

Here are 3 steps you can take today to take your online business marketing how to infoproducts to the next level.

Tip 1: Increase Your Profit Per Customer

Yes, the other PPC profit per customer is the revenue generated by each customer after subtracting costs such as marketing, overhead and cost of product/cost of sales.

How do you increase your profit per customer?

Here are a few ways you need to put into practice immediately:

Implement a postsale autoresponder sequence that is setup to expose multiple backend offers relevant to your buyers

Bundle multiple products and additional bonuses to increase the price of your products without increasing cost

Include a service offering related to your product as an upsell or backend sale to your offer

Explore alternative product formats with higher perceived value such as software, videos, audios or seminars

Tip 2: Pollinate Multiple Product Sites

Just as bees crosspollinate flowers to help them grow, so will your business benefit from multiple, related product sites crossmarketing.

A master of this approach is the highly successful Yanik Silver

Youกll find by visiting one of his sites, for example, his tremendously successful Instant Sales Letters Site here:

http://www.infoproductcreator.com/part/ysales.html

You will find crossmarketing for some of his other related sites such as his ก33 Days To Online Profitsก

You won’t just find popups, but also links right in the sales letter talking about his other related products.

Not only does this expose people to multiple products which enhances his Profit Per Customer, but it also allows him to setup strong links which help his search engine positioning

Tip 3: Setup and Support Affiliate Program

Folks, if you are not running your own affiliate program, and supporting your affiliates keeping contact as well as trainings, then you are missing the boat on sales *** possibly as much as 100% or more increase in sales.

Over 50% of my traffic and sales come from affiliates.

There are many options including services such as Commission Junction (www.cj.com), and software you use to manage your affiliate programs, my favorites being:

1Automation Wiz for overall order processing, autoresponders and affiliate management: http://www.infoproductcreator.com/part/1automationwiz

Ultimate Affiliate from Groundbreak.com: http://www.infoproductcreator.com/part/groundbreak

They both have trial periods so you can check them out before spending a dime.

Itกs fair to say that every successful how to product marketer online I know practices these 3 principles.

When work with ebook writers or other product entrepreneurs to increase their success online through our consulting programs, we often achieve incredible results by working on one of these 3 areas.

You can take your business to the next level too and if you need help, let us know, weกll be happy to share more information with you.

3 Keys To Building a Successful (Online) Business

3 Keys To Building a Successful (Online) Business

by: David Lovelace

Want to know the secret to effectively building a successful online business? Iกm afraid the answer may not be what you’re expecting.
Take this simple pop quiz. (I know, I haven’t given you time to study yet. But I think youกll pass the test anyway).
If you want to build a structurally sound home, you must first do what?
If you said, กLay a solid foundationก. Then congratulations. Youกve passed! 🙂
Building your online business is no different. The secret is not new. Just follow these 3 keys:
1.> Learn
2.> Take Action
3.> Adapt
1. Learn
Educate yourself. But don’t reinvent the wheel. Model your business after the blueprints that are already proven. There are systems in place. Follow them! But MOST importantly …
2. Take Action!
Lack of this step is the single greatest contributor to failure! Educate yourself on the proven systems, then put them into Action. But remember this .. it doesn’t matter that itกs not perfect. Itกs not going to be. Just the fact that you did กsomethingก will motivate you and the momentum will come. If you know what you need to do, then กJust Do Itก.
3. Adapt
Change is around us all the time. Stay informed. Itกs just as important to know what Doesn’t work as what Does!
Realize that it doesn’t come without hard work, desire, patience, perserverance (belief in yourself) and lots of ACTION. Did I say that already?

ขBuzz Marketing: Marketing to nonmarketable custo

ขBuzz Marketing: Marketing to nonmarketable customerข.

by: Arvind Kumar

Buzz marketing, also known as ‘wordofmouth marketing’ ‘guerilla marketing’ or ‘stealth marketing’ is an art of human kind to involve the trendsetters in any community to carry the brand’s message, thus creating an interest in, and a demand for, the brand with no overt advertising.

Nirmalya Kumar, professor of marketing, director of center for marketing and codirector of A.V. Birla India at London Business School.

When Dietrich Mateschitz formulated the drink ขRed Bullข in 1987 for Australian market, bars initially refused to stock it, seeing it as more of a medicinal drink than a mixer. However snowboarders and clubbers soon recognized. The boost it gave them. They started to bring it with them to non – alcohol bars and pubs.

Red Bull has mastered the buzz marketing. In the 8 sales area in US, the representative scouts for the hot spot. They distributed their branded refrigerator and some goodies to the bars and clubs. If other conventional establishments ask for Red Bull, they refuse them to retain the credibility and uniqueness of their community and clubbers. To connect this community, Red Bull use to organize a two – week annual music festival.

Red Bull first marketing technique was to distribute and target the teenagers and college goers. They went where these guys goes. Then Red Bull went around the cities full of Red Bull cars and distributed the drinks to anybody who need energy Free, the construction workers, Athletes all.

Coke and Pepsi recognized a new segmentation of their market and tried to capture it with big marketing budget. They created energy drinks. But after millions of write off they are distance number 3 and 4. Red Bull is still the king of energy drink with 65% of market and that is with the fraction of their spending.

Five years back on internet, Google started it operation in the dorm of two Stanford guys (You do not need to know there name, I guess) they created a system for search and marketed it on net with minimal of advertising. End result, after 3 years they become numro uno no in search – marketing in the presence of heavy spenders like Yahoo, overture etc

That the power of Buzz marketing. Gone are the days when you write a Cheque for your ad agency and agency will do the marketing. According to Philip Kotler, advertising is a lazy way of marketing and branding. You outsource almost everything, even your brand’s undergarments. Traditional marketer thinks that job is over. But buzz marketing is an engaging art of marketing. It is a hard way to market a product and services. Most of marketers do not like it. Because they like their comfortable aircondition rooms.

But in real world, you can’t close your eyes and think that your competitor will take pity on you. They are here to eliminate you. Buzz marketing is not a passé’ anymore. It is here and happening.

CEOs, be aware, if your people are saying they need different budget for branding, marketing and sales. Think again, someone is not ready to move his butts.

Crisis On the Home Front

Crisis On the Home Front

by: Lisa Reddell

Viruses, spam and system crashes are just some of the challenges that online business owners face on a daily basis. But there is another challenge that many online entrepreneurs may overlook. Across the globe, Mother Nature wreaks havoc with monsoons, tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Would one of these natural disasters create a crisis on the home front for your ebiz? What would you do? Are you prepared for the worst?
Recently, a natural disaster hit my town. Seventy to eighty mile per hour straightline winds ripped through Cheney Kansas. The damage left in the wake of the storm was unfathonable. The town was in shambles. It really got me to thinking about how it would have effected my business if the storm has destroyed my home. Since I work from home, the destruction would have likely taken my business down as well. Looking over my files on my computer, just my documents folder alone is 336 megabytes. Thatกs not including my website, graphics and the other tons of files I have.
I remembered reading an editorial from an ezine recently that spoke of online back up services. I decided that an online back up service would be worth looking into. After all, how would I recover from a tornado or flood, if it destroyed my home and business? Computers can be replaced, but what about the data and files? After a quick search using the keywords กonline backupก and กonline storageก (without the quotes), I had a starting point for my research.
What I found was a cornucopia of options, from pricey to quite reasonable in regards to fees. I chose the companies at random after careful consideration of features included, security issues, and amount of storage verses cost. The companies I chose, in no certain order are as follows:

http://www.bullguard.com/antivirus/backup.aspx Free trial no $39.99/year/10 MB Type back up
http://www.backup.com/ Free trial period the first 30 days $49.95/year/50 MB Type back up
http://www.streamload.com/ 30 day free trial $4.95/mo/3000 MB Type storage
http://www.usdatatrust.com/service/default.asp 30 day free trial $199/month/5 GB $150 activation fee ** Online information kit very helpful Type back up
http://www.iomega.com/istorage/ 30 day free trial $2.49/mo/50 MB Type storage/back up
http://www.xdrive.com/features/backup.jsp 15 day free trial $9.95/mo/500 MB Type back up
http://www.filesanywhere.com/Features.htm 30 day free trial $8.95/mo/500 MB Type back up
http://www.ibackup.org/ (back up only) 30 day free trial $14.95/mo/4 GB Type back up
http://www.ezbackup.com/ 30 day free trial $9.95/mo/250 MB Type back up

How does one know exactly how much storage one needs? Well, thatกs a good question. I recommend that if you use your PC on a regular basis, you probably have between 100 to 500MB of data to protect. You should only backup files that you can not easily replace. These files are usually created or named by you. Do backup documents, financial files and pictures, etc. Don’t backup operating system files or applications. A good starting point in determining your storage requirements is your กMy Documentsก folder. To do this, right click กMy Documentsก and select properties. The size displays on the General tab. Take a look at other folders or files you want to protect in a similar manner to determine your storage requirements. You can always upgrade or downgrade your account.
I would not recommend using an online service in the direct vicinity in which you live. If your community is hit by a natural disaster, chances are, your back up service would be affected also. Location of your back up service should be a key consideration in protecting your data and files.
So, are you prepared for a disaster on the home front? If not, you should be. Take control of your online business. Don’t wait until its too late to take action.
Lisa Note: It is my most sincere desire that this article has made you go hmmm…and answered questions about online services available that can be utilized to protect an important investment. Your business.
