Learn How To Diagnose Power Supply Problems

Learn How To Diagnose Power Supply Problems

by: Otis F Cooper

The Power Supply convertกs your regular household current into low DC voltage used by the computer. When this component fails,there is simply no activity going on wih your computer.Remember to do the easy troubleshooting first.Inspect the Power Supply for any damage.DoubleCheck all connections.

Learning how to check your power supply and how to replace it when needed can be a life saver if you’re a computer buff or in business with the trusted PC.Don’t take for granted the simple pleasure of turning on your PC and everything works just fine.

We turned on one of our computers recently and in about one hour,it just rebooted itself.And it continued doing so about 10 times a day until we found out the power supply was the culprit.Things to look for when your power supply is going bad or just dies on you are the following.

NO POWER TO THE COMPUTER

Here you must first check the wall outlet for power by connecting another device such as a radio or lamp to be sure power is present.If the computer is connected through a surge protector,check it as well.

If the wall out has power,check the power cable going to the PC to see if AC voltage is making its way to the system unit.Do this with the use of a multimeter.

If there is power,you will have to open the PC and check for power from the power supply to the motherboard.

When using a multimeter to check voltage,be sure you have a good ground for the black lead of the multimeter.

REBOOTING PROBLEMS

One main problem you may face with an ailing Power Supply is that it may reboot the computer without any warning.All information is lost and it seems as though this happens at the worst possible time.

Booting errors when the computer first startกs up is another indicator of this component going on the blink.

POWER DISTRIBUTION PROBLEMS

When the power supply begins to fail,you may receive power at one device and not another.For example,the Hard Drive may receive power but the CDROM Drive has nothing at all.

Another headache with would cause rebooting is the intermittent power going to the drives or the motherboard itself.Follow the steps below to check your power supply should you experience some of the above problems.

CHECKING THE POWER SUPPLY

If the wall outlet,and the power cord are good,make sure the connection at the motherboard is secure.Then you may have to face the fact that the power supply itself is bad.If you have a Multimeter you can test the power supply output before purchasing a new one.Simply follow these steps.

Turn off the PC,but do not unplug it,open the system unit. Set the multimeter to read DC volts in the next range higher than 12 volts.Locate a power connector similair to the hard drive,or cdrom drive connector that is unused and turn on the PC.

You can also unplug a drive connector and use it as well.Turn on the PC and insert the BLACK probe into the power connector on one of the BLACK wires.Touch the RED probe to the YELLOW wire on the power connector.

The multimeter reading should be +12 volts Now touch the RED probe to the RED wire and the reading should be +5 volts.If no readings or different readings occured,youกll have to replace the power supply.If the readings were correct,you should check the P8 or P9 connectors at the motherboard. These connectors may also be named P4 and P5.To check these connectors,perform the following…

Insert the BLACK probe into P8 at one of the BLACK wires. Insert the RED probe into the P8 connector at the RED wire. The reading on the multimeter should be +5 volts

Check the power going to the Motherboard connections by inserting the RED probe into P8 at the YELLOW wire and you should get +12 volts.Leave the BLACK wire touching the black wire at the P8 connector.Check the BLUE wire and the reading should be a 12 volts.

Now move the BLACK probe to the BLACK wire on the P9 connector.Test the WHITE wire by inserting the RED probe and the reading should be 5 volts.Check the RED wires on the P9 connector and you should get +5 volts on each red wire.You won’t get exactly 5 or 12 volts but the readings will be very close, such as 5.02 volts.

If the Power Supply is a couple of volts off,in either direction,such as when the RED wire should be reading 5 volts but it reads 8 volts,or if there are no readings,replace the power supply.

DO NOT remove the power supply from the system unit case when performing these tests.DO NOT perform these tests if you do not feel comfortable.Be sure to remove any and all electrical static buildup from your clothes and body BEFORE touching any parts inside the system unit.And NEVER open the power supply case for any reason,since high voltage may be present.

My Emails Are Not Being Delivered. Black Lists and

My Emails Are Not Being Delivered. Black Lists and White Lists Explained.

by: Karen Fegarty

Over 40% of all emails within your marketing campaign are not being delivered. You may not even be aware of this, as many ISPs will not send back a bounce message. In fact if you are sending messages to AOL customers, AOL is now blocking over 80% of the messages that come into their servers.

One of the main reasons that this is occurring is that your IP or Domain may be Black Listed. All major ISPกs and many corporate email systems now check against Black Lists and will refuse to deliver any emails that come from an IP that is Black Listed.

But what exactly is a Black List?

DNS black lists are lists of domains and IPกs that are known to originate Spam. Many antispam software programs used by corporations and ISPกs use these lists to control Spam by refusing any email that originates from one of these domains or IPs.

Unfortunately there are many instances of false positives as there are few checks and often little objectivity when listing a particular IP. In order for a black list to know that a domain is sending Spam, the offence must be reported . It may take only one report via a web form for you to be listed.

You may be listed maliciously through one complaint of a client, or that of a competitor. Many Black Lists, as well, will list not only the IP that is suspected as spamming, but will list any IPs in that range of addresses. If someone using the same Internet provider as you is accused of spamming and is placed on a Black List, you may be listed as well.

DNS blacklists are usually maintained by antispam organizations or by individuals.

What are some of the most popular Black Lists that ISPs are using?

Some of these include:

MAPS http://www.mailabuse.com/

Spam Cop http://www.spamcop.net/

SpamHaus http://www.spamhaus.org/

SPEWS.org http://www.spews.org/

ORDB.org Open Relay Database http://www.ordb.org/

How do I know if I am on a Black List?

Unfortunately, you really can’t be 100% sure if you have been black listed. You may be on someoneกs black list and not even know it. There are, however, ways to check most of the lists.

One way is to check your server log when sending your campaigns. You will often see an email bounce notice indicating that the message has bounced because you are on a particular black list.

Many of the major black lists also allow you to enter your IP into a form on their site. These checks will tell you whether you appear, or not, on their list.

A useful tool, is the Black List Monitor. http://www.blacklistmonitor.com It automatically checks your IP against most of the major Black Lists and tells you which ones you are listed on. It also gives you help in getting removed. All your IPs are constantly monitored for any changes, listings, or delistings.

But what is a White List and how can this help?

Many corporations and ISPs will create a white list. This is a list of trusted IP addresses that they feel confident will not send spam to their customers. If your IP is listed on a particular white list then your email messages will be delivered to the destination email address. It is important for reputable marketers to work with the major ISPกs such as AOL to ensure that you are on their white list. For most, it can be a lengthy process, but well worth your efforts.

Other thirdparty email certification programs now exist. Bonded sender www.bondedsender.com is one such agency. By joining Bonded Sender, senders improve deliverability rates and differentiate their brand. Senders go through a formal application process, adhere to email standards and post a bond against potential complaints. Major ISPs such as MSN/Hotmail now check against Bond Senderกs white list and allow these email to pass.

Knowing if you are on a black list, getting removed if you are and getting established on white lists is critical if you are email marketing. The more messages delivered equals more sales!

Save On Printing Cost With Two Inks

Save On Printing Cost With Two Inks

by: Blur Loterina

If you’re familiar with black and white photos on magazines, you might be confused whether it is really a black and white image. Sometimes you’ll notice that the color is closer to brown or pale yellow.

There’s an easy way to create this effect, the duotone process.

Duotone, from the word duo, means two colors. This is often used in making monochromatic print. It is done by adding a color tint to black and white images. Black ink and gray ink are used to smooth out or allocate different color to specific part, and increase tonal range from lightest to darkest.

Duotone also covers monotone, tritone and quadtone. Monotone, from the word mono, refers to images that have only one color. Tritone images are those that use three colors. Images that contain four colors are known as the quadtone. Tritone and quadtone images primarily use the Overprint Colors button. This will allow you to control the interaction of your ink.

To access Duotone, go to image, then to Mode, and select Duotone. If you are using RGB or CMYK, you will have set your workspace to grayscale first. To do so, select Image, go to Mode and choose Grayscale.

Next, select Image, then Mode, and then Duotone. A dialog box will appear. It is where you have to select the colors you want.

Open the Color Picker by clicking on the color swatch. Then, click on the Custom button. A popup menu will open. Select the type of ink and choose the color.

If you want to modify your work, just reopen your Duotone dialog box. To do this, go to Image, select Mode, and then choose Duotone.

Most commonly used duotone combination includes black and yellow, black and mediumblue, black and cyan, and black and brown.

Duotone are often used to make black and white images richer. Try to compare grayscale and duotone images. You will notice that the color will change. Photoshop does not just add the accent color; it also changes the hue of all the pixels.

When you go through the details, you’ll find that there is only one channel, even if you’re using two colors. This is so because Photoshop uses Duotone curve. To access Curve, go to Image, select Mode, choose Duotone. The Duotone Curve button is located on the left of the color swatch. Click on the box of the ink that you want to edit.

If you want to adjust the color through Photoshop’s Curve Adjustment, just select Image > Adjust > Curves. You can now change the tonal value by clicking and dragging on the line or by entering numbers on the field.

Do not limit your combination to black and gray, use any two different colors.

You may wonder why I write articles. Besides from the fact that it’s my job, I used to write short stories when I was younger. I think it would be helpful if I said I’m a big fan of Zach de la Rocha and Rage Against the Machine. This would explain my own views about a lot of things. Their songs were about national issues, politics and human rights. They support the American Indian Movement and Che Guevara, the face you see on tshirts. Not that it concerns me. I only like their music and idealism.

I like to read anything that contains words in the old English form, though I can’t understand it. You know, the King James Version of the Bible with words like thou, thy, thine, wilst, etc. The words used are different. The construction of the sentence is different, too, which makes sentences sound artistic. I also like gothic metal, a music genre, because most of the lyrics contain such words. It is not only the words that fascinate me; it’s the hidden meaning it contains. It’s like an abstract painting; you don’t get the real picture until you see through it.

I’m not an artist, I’m not a poet. I just love writing anything I want. I wasn’t born a genius, I just want to know and understand something I don’t. I like to find the difference between similar things. It’s like counting birthmarks on each identical twin.

7 Ways To Save On Your InkJet Printing Costs

7 Ways To Save On Your InkJet Printing Costs

by: Mark Idzik

Inkjet printers are not only getting better, they’re also getting less expensive. Why is that?

The inkjet printer manufacturers have built their business around the supplies rather than the printer itself. They make the printers as inexpensive as possible, sometimes selling them at cost, or less and making long term profits from the inkjet cartridges.

Manufacturers regularly warn about using generic cartridges, and highly recommend their own. Truth be told, there is very little difference between the two and you can regularly save over half of your current manufacturer branded cartridge purchases.

To help keep your inkjet supply costs low, here are seven tips that will keep you under budget:

1. When printing interoffice, internal, personal or draft documents, use the กdraftก and กgrayscaleก options in your printer settings. This will save on both black ink was well as color ink. Save color and standard black for your final document print.

2. Select inkjet printers that use separate black and color inkjet cartridges like the Canon กiก series. Many of these printers have 2 black and 4 color cartridges that allow you to replace only the colors that are running low, not just the one กcolorก cartridge as many printers often do. This saves on long term cartridge costs and lengthens the time between cartridge replacements.

3. Purchase กgenericก cartridges made for your printer. These are of similar quality to the manufacturerกs brand, and often at less than half the price.

4. Purchase ‘remanufacturedก cartridges compatible with your printer. These are cartridges collected from the original owner, cleaned and refilled with the same ink.

5. Purchase a cartridge ‘refill kitก. Youกll receive a kit that will allow you to refill the ink in your cartridge rather than a new cartridge. This is a great way to recycle and the quality is high and costs low.

6. Purchase your cartridges in bulk to save on shipping costs and discounts are sometimes available on larger single purchases.

7. Order your cartridges online to save time and money. Many local stores don’t carry the generic versions and costs are normally substantially lower online.

Using any combination of the tips above will save you both time and money and help you manage your inkjet printing supply needs easily.

You Bored Me at Hello! Three Strategies for Netw

You Bored Me at Hello! Three Strategies for Networking Your Brand

by: Kevin Kearns

กYou had me at hello,ก those famous words from the movie Jerry McGuire let Tom Cruise know that Rene Zellwegerกs character was hooked from that point and the rest of his talking was unnecessary. When in networking situations, many small business owners leave people with a slightly different feeling. If questioned for the truth, what would likely be said is, กyou bored me at hello!ก That is definitely not a great way to grow your business into a powerful name brand. Networking works, but not if you leave your prospects bored.

Networking opportunities are everywhere. You can find them at Chamber of Commerce and Better Business Bureau events, not to mention when you are in line at the grocery store. There are even groups of people who regularly meet solely for the purpose of networking. Unfortunately, all of the networking opportunities in the world will not help grow your business unless people remember you and your company after you are gone.

Here are three strategies to avoid boring people during your next networking opportunity:

1) Gone in ThirtySeconds Attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. Any longer than thirty seconds for your กelevator speechก and you will be tuned out. People cannot sit through a thirtysecond commercial without changing the channel on the television. Your business will be treated the same way. They will start thinking about what they need to pick up on the way home or other random thoughts. Many times, they are simply waiting for you to stop talking so they can try to sell you on their business. Your brand message must be short, simple and to the point. If you ramble too much, the person will start feeling like Charlie Brown in school กwahwah, wah wah wah,ก กyes maกam.ก

2) Red or Black Pick a color. Roulette gives you the option of betting on red or black. If you bet red, you win when it hits on any red number. Winning is good. If it hits on any black number, you lose. Losing is not so good. However, when you กhedgeก and bet on red and black together you are guaranteed to not win. In a networking situation, limit what you talk about. Sure, you are risking leaving out something the prospect would like to hear. However, unless you get lucky and mention it first, the odds are that you will lose their attention by then anyway. Limit the scope of your brand, or say everything and be remembered for nothing.

3) Listen Thatกs right, you are remembered more when you listen. Most of us go through our day fighting to be heard. It feels really good to be acknowledged and understood. So good that we automatically think highly of the person listening to us. Listening demonstrates that you value the person talking. Sincerely listen to what the other person has to say and they will leave with high regard for you and your business.

There ya have it, networking success as simple as 1, 2, 3! Follow all three strategies and you are sure to notice a sharp improvement in your networking. Before you know it, you will leave your future clients saying กyou sold me at hello!ก Now, those types of responses build a powerful brand!

Breathtaking Color Power!

Breathtaking Color Power!

by: Maricon Williams

Colors convey character, emotion and intention. You are what colors you choose. Thus, your choice of colors should reflect the message or feeling you to hope to convey to the viewer.

Red Red is hot color. It is an established color of love, urgency, courage, danger, passion, blood, intensity, aggression, and competition. It is best used as an accent color. This color does not usually blend well with greens or purples of the same intensity, so if you use red with these colors, modify the brightness or intensity.

Blue Blue is a color of peace, tranquility and wisdom. It also conveys honesty, truth, loyalty, power, coolness, health, harmony, and confidence. Blue is a safe choice for most uses, and goes well with the majority colors. Don’t use blue if your site is food or drink related, since there are hardly any blue foods and drinks.

Beige and Gray These are neutral colors. As neutrals, they can be combined with almost any color and still come across well. Both make for very readable backgrounds, but be sure to use glints of bright colors or the site will appear uninteresting. You can also accent beige or gray with dark colors. It will create an illustrious, professional look.

Black Black entails death, seriousness, solid strength, elegance, sophistication, rebellion, evil, power, and mystery. It can be powerful, aloof and intimidating. However, black is very useful in separating things such as graphic images. Black can make colors explode!

Yellow Yellow is the brightest of all colors and has the greatest illuminating power. It is a warm and cheerful color. In addition to cheerfulness, yellow can also convey caution, optimism, idealism, cowardice, and imagination. Too much yellow can be an eyesore. Be careful using yellow with greens and purples of the same intensity. It might tone down one or the other.

Green Green connotes youth, fertility, ecology, nature, health, growth, money, safety, healing, and food. However, to other viewers, it may connote envy, insects, and reptiles. Green can be well suited as a secondary or accent color.

Brown Brown implies simplicity, earthiness, comfort, durability, and stability. However, like the neutral grays and beiges, a site that is mostly brown can be very dull. However, a site that had a light brown/beige background, a rich brown secondary color, and bright or dark red accents can give the impression of being very professional.

When choosing colors for your web site. Choose wisely because colors have a larger impact on the viewers. To know its impact, try this test: Open your web site and write on a piece of paper as many words and images that you can think of. Now, have another person to do the same. After that, compare your notes. If you made correct color choices, the list should be almost impossible to tell apart.

Iกm more enthusiastic about writing however, since you can relay your ideas to someone else. I can only imagine that feeling when I hear a complete stranger talking about my ideas which read on an article somewhere. To relay my message to as many people is the same as touching people with music. Only mineกs less harmonic. I try to make up for it with the color I bring with words. And most of the time, it’s more than enough.

Avoiding Blacklisting: Making Sure Your Email Gets

Avoiding Blacklisting: Making Sure Your Email Gets Through

by: Karen Fegarty

We all know that email is probably todayกs most popular way to advertise. Every day our inboxes are filled with messages from people who want our businesswhether we asked for the contact or not. Email is todayกs biggest communication factor; but why shouldn’t it be? Itกs all but free to use, and itกs almost instantaneous.
But there is one problem with advertising via email that you may not think of very often: blacklisting. All it takes is one complaint, and your ISP or domain name can be put on someoneกs black list. If you’re on the black list, your emails are not getting throughand neither is your advertising message.
So how big of a problem is this? Well, AOL, one of the worldกs biggest Internet service providers, winds up blocking a whopping 80% of messages to its subscribers due to blacklising. Your email could be the most legitimate message ever sent, but if one person forgets they signed up or decides to complain, you could be blacklisted. And for your business, the resulting slump in sales can be devastating.
What is a blacklist, exactly? A blacklist is a database of known Internet addresses (or IPs) used by individuals or companies sending spam. Various ISPกs and bandwidth providers subscribe to these blacklist databases in order to filter out spam sent across their network or to their subscribers. Companies like AOL, MSN, and Yahoo all have very strict policies on spam, so many wellintended, legitimate emails never get through.
So how can you be sure you haven’t been blacklisted? Unfortunately, you really can’t be 100% sure. You may be on someoneกs black list and not even know it, and be added to and removed from black lists at the drop of a hat. The only way to prevent being blacklisted unfairly is to use todayกs technology to keep track of it all. There is cuttingedge software technology available that checks all the major black lists like Spamcop, MAPS, and SPAMHaus to ensure your domain or ISP hasn’t been added.
Taking a few moments to understand and solve your potential blacklisting problem can mean a world of difference in your bottom line.

Graphic Design Using Color

Graphic Design Using Color

by: Kelly Paal

Color is everywhere and conveys a message even if we don’t realize it. While this message can vary by culture it pays to know what colors ขsayข in your own corner of the universe, and even what color means to your target market.

If you don’t think that color speaks just complete this sentence, ขred means and green means –ข even a child will know what red means stop and green means go. If such simple ideas work for all of a given culture or market what could it mean to the graphic design of your website, brochure, or product if you know some of this information.

First let’s start with the basics. The color wheel. We’ve all seen it. The color wheel shows the basic colors, each wheel is different in how many shades of each color is shown, but they are essentially the same.

Color harmony, colors that go together well. These will be colors that are next door to each other on the color wheel. Such as blue and green. In reference to clothes these colors match each other. Instinctively most of us know which colors go together when we dress ourselves every morning.

Color complements, colors that set each other off, they complement each other. These are colors that are opposite on the color wheel. Such as blue and orange.

Color depth, colors can recede or jump forward. Remember that some colors seem to fall back such as blue, black, dark green, and brown. Other colors will seem to step forward such as white, yellow, red, and orange. This is why if you have a bright orange background it may seem to fight with any text or images that you place on it. The orange will always seem to move forward.

Now you have the basics so let’s go further. Just because to colors go together or complement each other doesn’t mean that yo necessarily want to use them on your project. I opened this article with the meaning of colors now here is an example, keep in mind this is one example from western culture.

Color Survey: what respondents said colors mean to them.

Happy = Yellow

Pure = White

Good Luck = green

Good tasting = Red (tomato)

Dignity = Purple

Technology = Silver

Sexiness = Red (tomato)

Mourning = Black

Expensive = Gold

Inexpensive = Brown

Powerful = Red (tomato)

Dependable = Blue

High Quality = Black

Nausea = Green

Deity = White

Bad Luck = Black

Favorite color = Blue

Least favorite color = Orange

So in designing your project it’s important to know what colors mean. You can now see why a black back ground with green type would be bad, beyond being nearly impossible to read, if your target market thinks that black represents mourning and green makes them sick. There are exceptions to every rule of course.

So you may want to include some research in what colors mean to your target market. Colors that would get the attention of a teen would probably annoy an older person and the colors that appeal to the older person wouldn’t get a second look from a young person.

Color may be one of the most overlooked aspects of design.

The Color of Success?

The Color of Success?

by: Bibi Liew

Color should be one of your first concern when it comes to website design. Colors creates mood. It is immediate and memorable. It conveys character, expresses intention and emotion. Colors play a vital role in websiteกs impact. It reflect the message and identity you want to convey to your viewers and can heavily influence the decisionmaking process. Your site will end up either plain and boring or chaotic and hard to look at. Thus, it must be carefully considered.

Colors affect us psychologically. They can make us excited, happy, irritate, angry or sad. For example, if you owned a restaurant, try to use some orange color for your interior, or a red color table cloth to increase customers appetite. A good color combination that create a relaxed atmosphere and a big appetite are the perfect environment for a restaurant. Itกs the same for a website.

Choosing safe color for your Website.

Thatกs my advice! If you are not an expert in colors, you can refer to the color wheel to achieve safe colors The Complementary colors or the Monochromatic colors. The reason for choosing safe colors is because the web browsers shares 256 colors, but bear in mind that not all browsers share the same 256 color pallet. They only share 216 colors in common (Mac or PC). If you go outside the 216 color pallet, that means you are using the color that does not exist in the browser.

Lets take a look at some of the color meaning:

Red the color of passion

Red is the warmest of all colors. It represent passion, energy, desire, excitement, love, strength, courage, leadership and power. It also symbolizes fire, danger, blood, anger and war. Red reflects energy and can increase enthusiasm and interest. It enhances human metabolism, raises blood pressure and increases respiration rate. It has very high visibility, which is perfect for กClick Hereก or กBuy Nowก button in a website. Use this color to stimulate people to make quick decisions.

Blue the color of peace

Blue is the coolest color. It represent calm, truth, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, harmony, heaven, sincerity and trust. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body which slows down human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Blue is often the chosen color by conservative people. It also symbolize coldness, depression and obscenity. According to studies, blue is highly accepted among males. Dark blue is associated with expertise and stability.

Yellow the color of joy

Yellow is always full of creative and intellectual energy. Yellow symbolizes wisdom, happiness, wealth, hope, cheerful, and intellect. It brings clarity for decisionmaking and awareness, sharper memory and concentration skills. You can choose yellow to promote childrenกs product. Men usually perceive yellow as a very กchildishก color, so it is not recommended to use it when selling products for men nobody will buy a yellow business suit or a yellow business bag. Yellow also symbolizes sickness, jealousy, and unstable.

Green the color of nature

It symbolize the master healer, well being, life, fertility, freshness, ambition, growth, stability and endurance. It is the most restful color for the human eye. Dark green is always associated with money, banking, and the financial world. It is best when you want to promote health products. On the other hand, it can denotes lack of experience and cowardice. Green is a safe color and if you don’t know what color to use, use green.

Orange the color of energy

Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, success, attraction, encouragement, and determination. It is always associated with sunshine, joy and autumn. Curiosity is a driving characteristic of orange when it comes to explore new things. It is said that people who like orange are usually thoughtful and sincere. It has a high visibility as well, so you can use it to catch attention or highlight an important elements in your website.

Purple the color of power

It is associated with royalty. Purple symbolizes luxury, ambition, magic and mystery, inspirational and imagination. It is also a color of good judgment. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is most favored by children.

White the color of purity

It means cleanliness, innocent, goddess and safety. It is considered to be the color of perfection. White can represent a successful beginning. In advertising and design, white is associated with coolness and cleanliness. You can use white to suggest simplicity in hightech products.

Gray the color of neutrality

Gray is the color of sorrow. It is the symbol for security, maturity, dependability and reliability. Light hues of gray make a good readability and backgrounds. Gray with more silver in it can be a very active color.

Black the color of stability

Black is the most misunderstood color. Black is a mysterious color associated with fear and the unknown. It is also associated with power, elegance, formality, death and evil. Black is considered to be a very formal, elegant and prestigious color. A black background diminishes readability. It contrast well with bright colors. You can use a black background when designing photography to make the other colors stand out.

Do not take colors for granted. Your choice of color represents you and your products or services. Colors can emphasize the theme of your website. It must be used as a tool to attract viewers. Keep in mind what the different colors symbolize during website design and you will be delighted with the positive output.

What Comes First The Cover or The eBook?

What Comes First The Cover or The eBook?

by: Ovi Dogar

One of biggest trend these days is related to ebooks. Because of their viral nature, ebooks are a great way to increase traffic to a site and thatกs why everyone has to write at least one.

There are millions of ebooks online and everyday there are at more then one hundred new ebooks that hit the stands of the online library. Some of them are free, other not. But they are all full of fresh information or they will be forgotten.

As a reader, itกs tough to decide which one to read and which not. Thatกs why most surfers do pretty much the same thing they do in a real library.

Remember the last time you were in a real library or bookstore? If you are like me, you will more than likely base your decision of reading or buying a book on the first stimulus that catch your eye. And that one stimulus is the COVER.

And thatกs the way everyone decides to read or buy a book: THEY LOOK AT THE COVER AND MAKE THEIR DECISION BASED ON IT!

So, what must accomplish a great cover?

First, it has to be an eyecatching cover so the visitor will pick up your ebook instead of the ebook of your competitors.

Second, even if the cover piqued your visitorกs attention it also have to be interesting enough to make him actually read your ebook.

How can you make a cover to stand out in a sea of covers?

Well, this is not an easy task if you have no design experience? Why? Because, even if your cover is different then all the other ones, it may be different in a wrong way.

You have to consider the general nuance of color for the cover, the main and the secondary font.

Here are a few general tips for you:

The colors tell a lot about the general subject of the ebook so you must use them accordingly

Use a combination between red, blue, black and white

Yellow itกs OK used sparingly in combination with black because it generates the strongest contrast

Always use a strong font for the main title Impact its fine if the title is longer and Arial Black for shorter ones.

If your ebook is on a lighter subject you can toy around with different fonts but never use more than three different fonts for the same cover

The cover should contain:

the main title

one teaser phrase or a good subtitle

the author name and eventually the URL of the ebook (avoid using http:// and subdirectories) usually a simple domain name will do just fine.

And finally one more tip: always KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid. Do not forget that the cover will be a small image and if you fill it with lot of info, it will be unreadable.

Top Five Most Profitable Color Combinations Used I

Top Five Most Profitable Color Combinations Used In Cover Design!

by: Ovi Dogar

‘two days ago, an old man stopped me on the street and asked me who my stylist is.
I was surprised at first by the situation. But after a couple of seconds, my answer was:
กกI don’t have a stylist. I dress myself!กก
Thatกs when it occurred to me that there are many people that match their clothes colors in a bad way. And guess what: the same thing is happening with many ebook covers that are on the internet today.
There are some covers so bad that you want to live a certain web page the very moment you see the cover.
I know you don’t want to end up with a cover like that so here is the Absolute Top Five Most Profitable Color Combinations.
5. Red black white
Sample: http://www.absolutecovers.com/5/show.php?n=148
Red and black combined with white create a nice impact to the eye. These covers usually jump into the visitorกs eyes through their simplicity. Gradients of red and grey can turn out pretty profitable also.
4. Black white gold
Sample: http://www.absolutecovers.com/5/show.php?n=138
This is another killer combination. The simplicity of black combined with the richness of gold helps you create a cover that makes people turn their heads just to see it. Usually these colors are ideal for conservatory institutions that deal a lot with money.
3. Red white blue
Sample: http://www.absolutecovers.com/5/show.php?n=152
You should take good care not to have redblue bordering areas, or if you do, one of the colors should be really dark while the other is lighten. Blue and white is another good combination that derives from this one. It is used more and more in the internet marketing new technologies field because of the trustiness the blue color implies.
2. Red orange green
Sample: http://www.absolutecovers.com/5/show.php?n=156
Orange seems to be a color preferred by the customers. Psychologically speaking, orange gives a sense of affordability and combined with red, which is a strong motivator, subconsciously influence your leads to act. The green color brings in a little freshness into the picture so it fits well for ecological and sport projects.
1. Red orange blue
Sample: http://www.absolutecovers.com/5/show.php?n=194
Based on numerous split tests and feedback from my customers, the absolute combination was formed from red, orange and blue or, to be more specific: dark blue. 🙂 The blue color adds the touch of confidence needed by each of us before we make the buying decision to the redorange combination.
This being said, I wish you much success with your venture and be aware next time you hire a cover designer.ก

Ways to Edit Art Graphics

If you’re an individual who’s someone less than an art graphics expert, you might think that a good piece of digital art is just something that didn’t take as much as a drop of sweat from digital artists. You might think that all it takes is raw talent and the absence of which results in nothing but digital garbage. This article aims to illuminate the fact that the techniques on designing an unforgettable piece of digital art also have a significant weight on the magnificence of its output.

Art graphics does not only serve as visual delight for your readers to lure them into appreciating your articles or websites. It may also serve to illustrate and get browsers ขreallyข interested to dig in. Get the drift? Well, like in newspapers, the cartoons serve not only as entertainment but also to sum up several heavygoing political and economic news that some readers to not care to read. By having the cartoon turn the whole thing into a lighthearted presentation – the readers gets caught and reads the articles anyway.

But are you fedup of conventional graphics cliparts from computer hardware that is not anymore eyecatching? Illustrating articles are tricky business – thus, we give you some tricks on how to edit and create fascinating graphics.

Turn cliparts into ขcut & pasteข art – here’s how! Sometimes, looking for the appropriate graphics needed to illustrate important points in your article could get you in a dither. Now, with a bit of luck and skill, create your very own clipart masterpiece. Look for graphics of similar styles and pair them out depending on what effect you would like in the outset. Then, after finding the right pairs, cut them out, either by scissors or in your computer software and merge them according to the effect you like.

Try exporting logos into GIF 89 (under the file menu) format instead of doing a ขsave asข. But remember the logo you need must first be in RGB format before you export it. The effect? The logo will be turned into a small, easily downloadable GIF file with indexed color and transparent background.

Create composite colors electronically. There are two easy ways to achieve this: first is to make an exact copy of the black version of the item you want to appear as a composite. Then, place the over the top of the black one and change its color to the color you want it to overprint in at whatever screen tint you desire. If you use QuarkExpress, the trapping function for that image can be defined as ขoverprintข. In PageMaker, create a 100% tint of the PMS color you want to overprint with and the click the ขoverprintข box in the definition. Make sure your item’s cloned copy that you want to appear as a composite is also in that color.

Second is mixing colors ahead of time for your very own produced graphics. In Photoshop, the ขduotoneข function works well for photos since it allows you to assign a specific color to each of the two copies of the photos you are combining. In Illustrator drawing programs, however, mixing colors is trickier. The composites won’t really translate into your layout program unless you ขmixข process colors. This means a fourcolor process, CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black.

With all these said, I hope I don’t have you under the impression that I am downplaying raw designing talent with digital technology expertise. I too know for a fact that excellent designs still stand out and it takes more than clicks and shortcuts to get them done. I only stand to encourage frustrated designers and to impart the message that with the help of available graphic designing software, they too can come up with something that’s more than mediocre.
