Basic Steps Toward a New Language

Basic Steps Toward a New Language

by: Scott Foreman

I thought I was unique, but the more folks I talked with, the more I realized that many people started just like I did. When I first got into my online business, I knew nothing about computer programming. I figured that I must be the only one in online marketing with such undeveloped computer skills. It turns out, there are many of you that started just like me.

No matter where we start, however, computer skills are essential in the online world. More and more frequently, programming knowledge is not only helpful, but required. It’s just not businesssmart to pay someone else to make every single change on your website.

Even if you are a programming newbie, all is not lost. You probably already know, for instance, that a huge amount of website programming is done in HTML (HyperText Markup Language). HTML was designed so that the ‘average’ website owner could create and edit content easily and quickly. If you don’t know what HTML looks like, get a glance by going to your favorite website. In the menu at the top of the screen click View and then click Source. Theoretically, this will give you the HTML code for the page you are viewing. There is an amazing amount of functionality involved with HTML coding. With knowledge of just a few commands, you can make a huge number of formatting and esthetic changes to your web page. With just a little bit more knowledge of the basic commands, you can enact very detailed adjustments to your site.

Let me give you a few examples that you may already know. When you use the command …, all text that replaces the ‘…’ will be emboldened. With … you can probably guess that the enclosed text will be centered. If you want a line break, use the command at the end of your sentence.

As I said, you probably already know those commands, but there are many that are just as easy and useful that you may not know. Just a little bit of research into the standard HTML commands can give you a world of knowledge in this userfriendly programming language.

Whether you have to completely redo your website or just want to make a few choice format changes, basic HTML knowledge is invaluable. Learning a few of the commands can give you a significant advantage over your competition, not to mention saving you money through doityourself programming work.

When you’re ready, check out how much HTML you can learn in just one hour. http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/cmd.php?ad=127595

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.

Are You กSolvingก or just กSelling?ก

Are You กSolvingก or just กSelling?ก

by: Scott Foreman

Here’s a brief survey. How many of you sell something online? It could be a product or a service. Second question: If you sell anything online, do you write any material used to promote that product or service?

My guess is that if you’re reading this article, you probably answered ‘yes’ to both questions. Now here’s a third question…How many of you WANT to be ‘sold’ something? If I told you I’d like to stop by your home tonight to ‘sell’ you something, would you likely invite me over? I doubt it.

So we have a genuine dilemma. We are in the business of selling. We are also in the business of promoting what we sell. Our potential customers, however, have NO DESIRE to ‘be sold.’ Instead, they have problems to be solved and questions to be answered. If you become the guy/girl that solves problems, you’ll NEVER lack for work or customers.

Can you begin to see how important it is to make sure that whatever you write about your product or service must keep the customer in mind. You must solve problems and answer questions. Outside of your family and friends, no one cares how much you sell, but everybody cares when you’re the ขgo toข person. You name your price at that point.

Whatever your next promotional piece is going to be, you’ve got to answer a few questions.

What problem am I solving or What question am I answering?

What does my customer get for purchasing my goods or services?

Why would my prospect buy from me and not someone else?

In what ways does my product or service make my customer’s life easier?

Notice where your focus should be? If you can’t answer those questions or they don’t seem relevant or you’re coming up with a reason NOT to answer one of them, there’s a good chance your focus is in the wrong place.

While it’s hard to internalize, especially when you’re just starting out, you don’t need to worry about selling anything. You worry about helping, answering, and solving and the customers will more than reward you for it.

Also, beware the pitfalls of trying to fabricate desire. You may fool your customer into buying something they only THINK they need, but all you’ve done is to insure that they’re more jaded and distrustful of you the next time.

Obviously, the ideas I’ve presented here are not original. Customer service is much older than I, but it does take a few pointers to get most people moving in the right direction. While I’ve just touched on the subject, you’ll be astounded at what Dr. Ken Evoy can teach you in his short book on effective writing for sales purposes.

Not only does Dr. Evoy give you great writing tips in the simplest of presentations, but he also introduces you to the idea of PRESelling your prospects to get them in the buying mindset. You’ll spend less time worrying about sales and more time being the problem solver. Check out Ken’s book here: http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/cmd.php?ad=124250

Anyone who can turn a suggestion into a solution for the listener is well on the way to implementing that suggestion. Whatever your business, when you cater to your audience (prospects) everyone wins. Answer questions. Solve problems. Never, ever just ‘sell.’

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.

Do Your Ads Make Sense?

Do Your Ads Make Sense?

by: Scott Foreman

You probably see claims everyday that will let you retire with no effort in just a few weeks (or even days). There is no doubt that you’re skeptical and you should be.

Believe it or not, though, Google has come up with a way to boost your income with very little effort on your part.

First, let me find out if this is right for you. Do you already have a web presence? In other words do you have a website up? Do you have AT LEAST 2030 pages of good content on that site? Are you getting AT LEAST 100200 visitors per day?

If you can answer ‘yes’ to those questions, you may well be a great candidate for Google’s Adsense program.

As you know already, Google is very good at making sure the web surfer finds what they are searching for. You probably also know that Google has implement an AdWords program that allows you to advertise relevant websites right next to the normal search results that they provide.

Well, the AdSense program takes that advertising one step further. You are now able to put highly targeted ads on your website and make money whenever someone clicks on those ads. The term ‘highly targeted’ means that whatever your web page’s subject, Google will place ads on that page concerning that same subject. Your visitors will love the options that you give them.

Once you are approved for the program, you only need to put a small amount of code on your targeted pages and voila, you have provided quality search information for your web site’s visitors. When you’re ready you can sign up here: http://www.google.com/adsense

As simple as the process is, there are a ton of tips and ideas that have been proven effective through vast trial and error. We rely on an incredibly helpful resource in organizing AdSense ads on our site. Check it out at: http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/cmd.php?ad=125631

There are no ‘get rich quick’ schemes, but if you’ve done the work and have a website with good content and traffic to match, you can boost your earnings significantly with Google’s Adsense program.

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.

Are Your Business Emails Legal? (Part 1)

Are Your Business Emails Legal? (Part 1)

by: Scott Foreman

You do business online right? If you do any marketing or commercial communication via email, then you are intimately aware of the CAN SPAM Act of 2004. If you’re not familiar with it, get a brief overview at: http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/cmd.php?ad=120658

Regardless, you are now legally required to implement the articles of CAN SPAM (the Act) in the daily workings of your business. Are you aware, however that Congress enacted changes in December of 2004? Are you aware of the new provisions of the Act?

In this first of three short articles, we want to make sure that the small portion of internet marketers unfamiliar with the Act get up to speed. We also want to make sure that the larger portion of marketers not familiar with the new provisions become familiar. Grab the full report here: http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/cmd.php?ad=120658

In order to be compliant and Legally Run Your Marketing Campaign, all commercial emails that you sent must include the following:

Functional return email address or similar ‘opt out’ link for the recipient.

Clear identification that the message is an advertisement or promotion (if that is the case).

Clear notice of the opportunity to decline future emails from the sender.

Valid physical address of the sender.

While most marketing emails I receive now contain the above listed information, I still see quite a few that are lacking physical mailing addresses.

The US public has spoken and Congress is listening. The government does not take kindly to Spammers and if you fail to comply with the CAN SPAM rules, you could be heavily fined.

Once again, feel free to download our 2005 CAN SPAM report that summarizes the original provisions of the Act as well as the new (as of Dec 2004) additions.

http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/cmd.php?ad=120658

In the meantime, keep an eye out for our next installment of the CAN SPAM update.

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.

The Right Tools for Your Marketing Job

The Right Tools for Your Marketing Job

by: Scott Foreman

Time is money; undoubtedly one of the oldest clichés in existence. Have you ever thought about what it really means though? Is bending over to pick up a penny worth your time? Maybe, but would it still be worth it to cross the street for the same penny. Maybe not.

Your time has value. You can choose to use every minute of every day in any way you wish. It goes without saying that most of us would like to spend more time making money or at least have our ขmoney makingข time be more profitable.

For those of you who do any type of mass marketing, you already know about Ad Trackers, Autoresponders, and Shopping Carts. You may or may not know that you can combine all three (and more) into one service. This week we start our first of a three part series on the many uses of a so called ‘complete marketing tool’ (we’ll call it the Tool).

Every Tool has different functions, but there are a few that are fairly universal and very necessary. This week, we’ll focus on the function often called Ad Tracking. Within a Tool, an Ad Tracker allows the marketer to set up a tracking protocol for any link on the marketer’s web site.

What a tracking protocol tells you is exactly how many people clicked on your link. If the link goes to a desired location on your website, you can track your conversion rate as well. In either case, it’s invaluable information.

Here are two examples.

1) Let’s say that you are promoting XYZ Shoe Polish on your website. In the middle of one of your product comparison pages, you put a hyperlink to XYZ’s home page… www.xyzshoepolish.com (for example). You can look at your web logs to find out how many visitors that page received. Then you can go to your Tool’s Ad Tracker to find out how many of your visitors clicked on your link to XYZ. You can easily see how important that information is from a marketing perspective.

2) Let’s say you’ve just written an ebook on raising Tulips. You website is all about flower maintenance and in one of your spring articles, you put a link to your ebook sales page. Because of your Ad Tracker, you know exactly how many people got to your sales page through your article. And you know how many of your ebook customers were as a result of your well written article.

Just the Ad Tracking function alone is worth the monthly fee paid to a Complete Marketing Tool service. With the incredibly useful aspects of the Ad Tracker, you’ve already saved time and marketing dollars. Nevertheless, there are a ton of other functions that the Tool service provides. Next week, we’ll talk about the Complete Marketing Tool’s ability to track your mailing list as well as your affiliates.

In the meantime, if you can’t wait to check out the other Tool features for yourself, please feel free to check out the very same Marketing Tool we rely on everyday. See for yourself, how many of the great features could make your business easier and more efficient.

Freebies are Worth Every Penny

Freebies are Worth Every Penny

What’s the best way to make money online?

I know what you’re thinking, ขhe can’t possibly be answering a question that clichéd.ข Actually, you’re right. I’m not offering a definitive position on THE BEST moneymaker, but a really, really good way is also a pretty easy way.

If you’re like me, you get lots of emails and lots of internet marketing offers everyday. If you read every offer and clicked on every link, you’d never be able to live your life.

As a result, you know you have to offer your customers and visitors value or they won’t buy and won’t come back to your site. There are many things that are worth every penny of their cost, but what if there was no cost? What if you consistently gave your customers valuable information and products without charging them? Is that crazy? I don’t think so.

Think about it. If the only time you contact your mailing list is to sell them something, you better have some great products or your customers will get tired of hearing from you pretty quickly. If, however, you gave your customers free information on a repeat basis, you are adding value to your relationship with them. Value added equals trust gained. When trust is gained, the products you promote are more likely to convert to sales.

Where do you get free products? Create original content. Write something original. Research a hot topic. Become an expert on a subject. Does it take work? Yes. Does it take a PhD? No. If you write articles, you can compile similar articles into a mini ebook. If there is a topic in your niche market that is popular, read up on it and offer a summary. Do you have unique knowledge or skills that other people need? Provide answers to people’s questions.

Also, since PDF’s are the most popular way to transmit ebooks now, you’ll need a way to create those documents. For a way to turn standard word processing documents into PDF’s, check out this cool tool:

http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/resources

The next newsletter you send to your list, don’t try to sell anything. Instead, give away something useful. You may not see an immediate impact on traffic and sales, but over the long term, you’re sure to reap the benefits of goodwill.

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.

Be the King of Your Domain

Be the King of Your Domain

by: Scott Foreman

So there you are. You’ve got a topic that you really love. You’ve done your research. You’re ready to start your new website. As good as it is, you’re certain to get traffic and tons of sales. All you need to do now is register a domain name and start designing the site to end all sites!

The only problem is, what do you call your site?

It seems like such a throwaway decision. But stop for just a second to think about how important that simple, little name will be.

Some handy things to keep in mind…

You want traffic. That means, you’ve got to get ranked high in the search engines. Determine what keywords, or keyword phrases people will type into their browser to find your site. Use those terms often. You may even want to use the best phrase in your domain name.

KISS. Keep It Simple Silly. Make sure your name is one that people can remember. Most people will only ask for the name once, then they move on.

Keep the spelling easy. I’ve spent my entire life trying to figure out how to spell ‘receiveก and I’m still no good at it. Don’t make people have to look up a word just to get to your site. www.wemakewatches.com is miles better than www.impeccablechronographs.com

Use dot COM. The .com domain extension is so common that it’s almost crazy to use anything else. If a searcher doesn’t know, he/she will assume .com. Don’t send them to your competitor.

Keep it legible. If your domain name has more than two words, use dashes () to separate the words. If the name is two words or less you can just mash the words together. Good: www.healthybreakfastcereals.com. NotsoGood: www.healthybreakfastcereals.com

When you’re researching where to register your domain name there are many, many sites that can do so for you. One of our favorite free research tools not only tells you if your name is available, but also gives a ton of suggestions for alternate choices. Check it out: http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/cmd.php?ad=119422

While we’ve just scratched the surface of domain names, you can get tremendously helpful info on not only web site names, but search engine optimization, web site creation, and niche identification at one of our all time favorite sites here: http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/cmd.php?ad=119425

Don’t create another website without carefully weighing the importance of the name you supply. The time and effort you use to come up with a compelling name will be easily recouped in added traffic and increased sales.

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.

Looking for Help Writing Google Adwords?

Looking for Help Writing Google Adwords?

by: Scott Foreman

With the holidays in ขfull swing,ข shopping is frenzied and buying is at the high point for the year. With even the most rudimentary business knowledge, you know that fourth quarter of the year is always the strong quarter for retailers. People are buying like crazy and each year, the economy picks up a little more steam and people have a little more disposable income.

As Pay Per Click (PPC) advertisers, we know that we must take advantage of this season. This can be a gold mine of opportunity. Whatever product you may be promoting, people are generally more likely to buy. There are exceptions, of course, but we need to be taking advantage of shoppers’ willingness to purchase items they may not normally purchase.

When writing advertisements for PPC services, there is one technique that tends to get attention. After all, attention is really what we’re after. It’s the merchants’ job to write effective sales copy. It’s the merchants’ job to sell the product. With PPC advertising, our only job is to get the click. That’s it.

So what’s the technique for getting people’s attention? You’ve already seen and fallen ขvictimข to it. Ask questions. You may be reading this because you recognize my name and like my past articles, but more than likely, you were caught by the title. When writing short ads whose sole intent is to get clicks, ask questions that searchers want answered.

If a searcher goes to a search engine and types in ขshoes,ข what ad title would get more attention: ‘Shoes’ or ‘Looking for Shoes?’ Both titles have the requisite keyword there, but one states a fact (rather blandly) and the other answers a question. When it all comes down to it, isn’t that what many searchers want, questions answered? How about this example: ‘Tie a Bowtie’ or ‘How Do I Tie A Bowtie?’ I think you can see the question seems to address the searcher’s concern more thoroughly than the statement.

The next PPC campaign you start, try asking a question in your ad title. If you can also make sure that the product answers that question, you’ve got a powerful combination of eyecatching ad and problem solving product.

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.

Wishing you Success,

Scott Foreman

Did You Get All the Good Keywords? Are You Sure?

Did You Get All the Good Keywords? Are You Sure?

by: Scott Foreman

If you are an advertiser with pay per click (PPC) services, you know one of the keys to a successful campaign is finding the right keywords. You also know that the ‘right’ keywords aren’t necessarily the most popular or the most obvious. The most obvious keywords to you are often the most obvious to everyone else as well.

As a result, you rack your brain trying to come up with words that are appropriate, but not obvious; popular, but not expensive; useful, yet not mainstream. The search for such keywords can be strokes of genius or hairpulling nightmares.

Google has come up with a new search tool that can alleviate, if not eliminate the frustration with trying to generate a good keyword list. Found at http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en Google’s suggestion tool will automatically prompt popular searches similar to the words you type into the search box. Not only will the tool suggest other search terms using your word, but it will also tell you approximately how many results there are for each search term.

For example, if you type in the keyword ขshoes,ข you’ll find that there are over 87 million results for the word ขshoes.ข You’ll also find that there are also over 17 million results for the word ขshoe.ข This is a friendly reminder to use both singular and plural versions of keywords. Even more useful, when you dig a little deeper you’ll find that ขshoes runningข has over 8 million results and ขshoes athleticข has over 3 million results. These terms may be obvious to you, but at some point you’ll come across a term that completely slipped your mind.

One drawback to Google’s tool is that it doesn’t give the number of people actually searching for the term. Such popularity is obviously valuable to know. Nevertheless, you’ll be able to see at a glance a list of similar words and phrases compared to your original search term. As a result, now you can type in your most obvious keywords and let Google do some of the brain storming for you.

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.

If Only There Was Some Forum For The Exchange of I

If Only There Was Some Forum For The Exchange of Ideas

by: Scott Foreman

For those of you over the age of 15 you have a reasonable memory of a time when there was no Internet. I’m just old enough to still be amazed at the ease of obtaining and pure volume of information available online. Not to mention the breadth of topics covered. It’s a rare day indeed when I meet someone who can’t find any information on their niche interest online.

While a huge amount of information exists online, it can be difficult, if not insanely frustrating to find sometimes. There is hope however, especially for those of you brand new to Internet Marketing. While we may lament the amount of competition in this Marketing field, it does provide us with a large number of incredibly knowledgeable professionals. Many of those experts are willing to share the information that they have to any who ask.

Admittedly, most of you already know what I’m about to say. It bears repeating, however, for even the most experienced of veterans, that there is always someone out there who knows more about your question than you. The answer is Internet Forums. For those of you new to the web, forums are just what the name suggests, places to post questions and ideas on a particular topic. Given that most visitors of forums have similar interests, you are most likely going to find someone that can point you in the right direction. It may take a day or two, but if you have the time, forums are great gathering spots for experts and pros alike.

Newbies can gather huge amounts of (mostly accurate) information. Vets can help out their fellow man/woman and even find answers to their own questions. You never know when someone with highly specialized knowledge is lurking in the shadows of the forum waiting to answer your detailed question.

Take advantage of forums to answer questions, meet new people, and just be around likeminded individuals. You will dramatically shorten your learning curve on any subject. When the day comes that you are the expert, remember where you got your start and help out the next guy.

While its not the intent of this article to recommend specific home business forums, please feel free to contact us for some of our favorites. Or you can visit our resources directly at: http://www.marketerschoice.com/app/adtrack.asp?AdID=114085 Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.

Wishing you Success,

Do Your Tools Really Make Your Job Easier?

Do Your Tools Really Make Your Job Easier?

by: Scott Foreman

It’s funny. We in the Internet marketing business really pride ourselves on the amount of effort we put forth toward our customers and prospects. We know that if we don’t provide useful information, they’ll get rid of us like week old fish. At the same time, however, we want to do everything we can to work as little as possible.

Seemingly contradictory attitudes about our business relationships are easily cleared away by stating that we want to manage our time wisely. In other words, don’t waste time doing what someone (or something) else can do for you. Thus we conclude our series on ‘Complete Marketing Tools,’ (or just, Tools) that come in many shapes and sizes, but are mostly applications that combine Ad Trackers, Auto responders, and Shopping Carts. If you missed parts 1 or 2 of this series, please check them out at: http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/newsletter.

Unless you are brand new to internet marketing, you already know that auto responders allow you to do exactly as the name suggests; automatically respond to an infinite number of circumstances.

One of the most common auto responder examples is if a customer signs up for your newsletter, an automatic, prewritten email is sent to that customer thanking them and pointing them in the right direction to get the latest copy of the newsletter.

Likewise, you probably already know about Broadcasts. Broadcasts are often mass emails sent out to entire lists or groups of people with similar interests. An example of a Broadcast is if you ran a gardening website, you could sent out a mass email telling all of the people who like Tulips to get ready for the beautiful Tulip season coming up.

Now both Auto responder and Broadcasting programs are fairly straight forward, but Complete Marketing Tools combine the two services to make your marketing work easier and less time consuming.

As examples of just a few marketing headaches you can avoid, the Tool will automatically send unique emails to people on your mailing list based on how they found out about your mailing list.

Another great feature is the ability to automatically shift prospects from one Broadcast to another based on how they have responded to your Auto responder messages.

Finally, one of our often used features is the ability to send Broadcasts in either text or HTML format based on either the stated preference of the prospect or, if not preference is stated, whichever version is most appropriate for their email program. Our preference is to send HTML versions of our newsletter as the Tool allows us to track the open rate of those newsletters. If our mailing list members can’t receive HTML emails, however, the Tool will automatically send the Broadcast in the text format.

While we’ve only touched on a few of the features, versatility is almost endless for the Complete Marketing Tools. The Tools serve not only all of the individual purposes of: auto responders, broadcasters, affiliate managers, mailing list managers, etc, but combine those programs to integrate and turbo charge your marketing efforts.

Do the Complete Marketing Tools cost money? Yes. Are they well worth the investment? Absolutely! Check out our favorite Tool and let us know how much it’s changed your business: http://www.buildpassiveincome.com/cmp.php?ad=120452

Remember, be good to yourself and never underestimate the power associated with the intensity of your passion.
