Introduction to Google Page Rank (PR)

Introduction to Google Page Rank (PR)

by: Simon Melaniphy

For anyone looking to enhance their Google Page Rank (PR) to get a better place in the search results, we now have software that makes finding good links so much easier.

In case you didn’t know, to get your PR rating up it is essential to have a significant number of good quality links to your site (the techy bit)… to make a link count, the page who is linking to you needs to have a PR of 4 or more (the higher the better). Thatกs not all though… Every link that page has to another site gives some of the PR away, and every inbound link gives it more, so to know if having a link from another site is going to benefit you very much, you need to look at the PR and then find out how many inbound and outbound links is has! phew!

Not easy I would say, so thatกs why we now have special software you give it a URL and the keywords you have optimised for, and it crawls itsก way round the web looking for pages to link from and analysing them. You end up with a CSV or HTML file that saves you hours in searching and tells you which links are worth having.

Hereกs an example of the output for 1 potential link:

KeywordtoLink search. Used keyword(s) กweb site designerก.

http://www.1234findwebdesigners.org/

Rank: 7 Estimated: 3 Outbound: 369 Backward: 2460

This tells you the PR of that site is 7, 369 links to other pages, 2460 links to that page, and it would give you a boost of 3 out of a potential 10 for getting a link.

We offer 2 services 1 where you supply the keywords you want analysing, and we supply the file back to you with the hard work done, ready for you to approach the sites for links. As an introductory price for August / September this is only £99 + VAT.

We also do the complete link building and optimisation service.

How to Quickly Gain Traffic to Your New Web Site

How to Quickly Gain Traffic to Your New Web Site

by: Herman Drost

The problem with a new site is that it often takes a long time before it is indexed by the search engines. This means you are missing out on getting traffic and making sales. Google places new sites in the กsandboxก which means they are on กholdก for a period of time before they rank.

Here are some ways to generate immediate traffic to your web site:

1. Start a PPC (pay per click) campaign – you can begin a Google Adwords campaign and start generating visitors the same day you set it up. Of course it is going to cost you some money but you can set a limit for how much you wish to spend. You will soon get a good idea what keywords produce the most clicks for your ads. You can incorporate these keywords in your site when you optimize it for the search engines.

While you run your PPC campaign get busy with preparing your site for the main search engines. Once you have been indexed by the main ones such as Google, Yahoo and MSN and start moving up in rankings, you can scale back the amount you spend on Google Adwords. Your goal is to eventually rank high enough that you won’t have to use PPC anymore because you are getting enough visitors.

2. Optimize your site for the search engines – the keywords that generated the most clicks from your PPC campaign, should be included in your web pages. Research alternative keywords using utilities such as Wordtracker or the Overture Suggestion Tool. You can determine the popularity of those keywords by seeing how many Google Adword campaigns are running. You accomplish this by entering the keyword or keyword phrase in the Google search engine and see how many ads appear on the right hand side of the page. If there are a lot, that means the keyword you chose is very popular and in high demand.

Integrate a few of your best keywords within the text on each of your web pages. The home page should contain the keywords which have the highest demand (most searches) with the least number of competing web sites. Then proceed with the other pages in descending order of keyword popularity.

Make sure you also include these keywords in your meta tags, title, h1h3 tags, links and file names. Don’t overdo it for you may get penalized for spamming the search engines.

3. Increase link popularity – this refers to how many external and internal links are pointing or linking to any particular page. External links include those that come from web sites other than your own whereas internal links are those that come from within the same domain name. Link popularity is not based on the กquantityก of links but the กqualityก of those links as well. Therefore increasing link popularity does not necessarily require having a large number of links pointing to your site but rather a good number of quality links.

4. Submit to the top search engine directories – many of the top directories have good link popularity that can be passed on to your site. They also have specific category pages that are related to the nature of your site. The major directories include The Open Directory, Yahoo and Zeal.

The Open Directory is one of the largest that is still free, however it can take months or even years to get listed. If you become an editor for Zeal you can get your site listed free. Yahoo costs $299.00/year to be included. It is worth it if you can afford it.

Here’s a couple of articles on how to properly submit your site to the search engine directories:

http://www.searchrank.com/resources/art015.htm

5. Submit to specialty search engine directories – you may wonder why I haven’t mentioned submitting to the major search engines. When you work on building the link popularity of your site, it automatically places you in the main search engines. Once you have submitted your site to the main directories, find specialized directories related to your business. Here’s a good resource:

http://searchenginewatch.com/links/article.php/2156351

You can also research the link partners of your competitors’ sites by entering your favorite keyword in the search engines. Once you have found a number of top ranked sites, download the Google toolbar and check their back links. This can save you a lot of time researching other areas to find quality links.

Once your site been indexed by the search engines and included in the directories, focus on adding more content and continue building your link popularity. This will help you to maintain and/or increase rankings with the result of gaining more traffic to your new web site.

The New Google Ad Links

The New Google Ad Links

by: Subhendu Sen

You know about Google Adsense, now itกs Google Ad Links for Google Adsense publishers.

[ For who do not yet know what Google Adsense is : กGoogle AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant, unobtrusive Google ads on their websiteกs content pages and earn money,ก — says Google. To open a Google Adsense account, please visit: https://www.google.com/adsense ]

What are Google Ad Links?

กAd Links are a new form of text advertising that we’re offering to our AdSense publishers. Using the same contextual targeting algorithm that targets Google ads to your content pages, Ad Links units display a list of topics that are relevant to your page. Each topic, when clicked, brings the user to a page of related advertisementsก, — this is how Ad Links are defined by Google.

Basically, Google Ad Links are vertically placed links of 4 or 5 keywords related to the content of your page. On clicking a link, the visitor is shown a list of Ads by Google on that particular keyword. If the visitor clicks on an ad, you get your commission.

So, why do you need to put Ad Links in your page?

Simple. Because you want to earn maximum revenue from each of the pages of your site.

According to Google, you are allowed to put max. 3 Adsense codes. But experts say that displaying too many Adsense ads in a page distract the attention of the visitors and they lose interest in the site. Therefore itกs always advised to put only one Adsense code and that too close to the main content of the page, to get the best results.

By placing just one Adsense code and no Leaderboard or Skyscraper, are we losing out some opportunities to earn more clicks on Adsense Ads?

No. Because thatกs where Ad Links come in. Let me describe the usage of Ad Links with an example :

I have a page on กEngagement Ringsก at : http://thewebcontent.com/Relationships/Relationships_Article_56.php I use 250×250 Square Adsense code with the first paragraph of the article. This code displays only 3 Adsense Ads.

Now, I have placed Ad Links code just above the top of my left panel menu bar. Google currently displays 5 related keywords to the page : Engagement Ring, Carat Diamond, Ideal Diamonds, Gia Diamond and Gem Stone Ring. Each of the keywords are clickable.

Through these links, I get access to : 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 4 = TOTAL 44 Adsense Ads! (at the time of writing this article)

In case, Google does not find related keywords for a page, it displays a tiny search box. Visitors can put any keyword of their choice, and Google shows all Adsense Ads related to the keyword searched for!

Isn’t it incredible? …that too without disturbing visitors? Actually, it helps visitors, because they always look for links related to the subject they have come to our sites for.

The main advantage of Google Ad Links are that, they are displayed just like we display vertical menu—one link each line. Though Ad Links code displays กAd Links by Googleก boldly, but it gives a look of being a part of your vertical menu. And thatกs definitely a great advantage.

To add Ad Links to your page, please follow the instructions below :

Log on to your Adsense account

Click on กAd Settingsก

Select the Radio Button which says : กAd Links Unitsก.

Select 4 or 5 links per ad links unit from the drop down menu

Select Ad layout options : 120×90, 160×90, 180×90 or 200×90 depending upon your page layout.

If you have saved custom Color Palettes, select the palette of your choice.

Copypaste the Ad Links code from the textarea box and place it to your web site in desired place

Thatกs all! But remember that you can place only one Ad Links code in a page. If you put more than one, others will not generate any link.

If you are an Adsense publisher, there is no reason why you will not add Ad Links to your page.

What do you think?

Do the Search Engines Know Your Website?

Do the Search Engines Know Your Website?

by: Chet Childers

Are you considering a search engine promotion campaign to improve your websiteกs search engine visibility? To aid in your decision, have you checked your website to determine its search engine awareness?

Perhaps you may be thinking why do I need to check my website? Do you remember going to the doctor for an illness? Hopefully, your doctor performed some tests to diagnose your illness before prescribing your medication. If not, you may have gotten some very undesirable results.

In the case of your website, you need to diagnose the patient and determine the extent of your websiteกs search engine visibility. Based on your findings, you can decide to focus on standard search results or paid search results.

Your checks should be done in the Google and Yahoo search engines since they are the major search engines in todayกs marketplace. As an option, you should consider MSN since they have recently released their search engine. It is only a matter of time before they are considered a player, if not already.

Your first check determines if your website is indexed in Google or Yahoo. Think about the card catalog in your library. Each book has a card in the card catalog signifying the indexing of the book in the library. In this exercise youกll check if your website has a กcardก in the Google or Yahoo card catalog.

The first exercise is opening your web browser to the Google www.google.com, Yahoo www.yahoo.com or MSN www.msn.com website. Enter your websiteกs URL, www.yourdomainname.com, in the search box and review the search results. Your websiteกs domain name or URL should appear in the search results if your site is indexed.

If just the domain name or URL is listed, the website has been indexed but not crawled by the search engine spider. A domain name and several lines of descriptive text indicate the website has been crawled by the search engine spider to determine the websiteกs content. Also, look for the link กCached Pageก or a similar phrase. This is another indication the website has been crawled for content by the search engine.

Now, you should know if your website is indexed and has a กcardก in the search engine card catalog. Your second check evaluates the extent of your websiteกs indexing by determining which website pages are indexed by the respective search engine.

The second exercise is opening your web browser to the Google, Yahoo or MSN website. Enter the กsiteก command and your websiteกs URL in the search box in the format กsite:www.yourdomainname.comก (quotation marks not required) and review the search results. All of your websiteกs pages indexed by the queried search engine should be listed. At the top of the search results screen look for ‘results X Y of about Z from www.yourdomainname.comก or a similar phrase. The value for Z indicates the total number of pages indexed by the queried search engine for your website.

In addition, you might see the comment ‘repeat the search with the omitted results includedก in the results listing. Since the search engine does not always show the entire listing, you can click the link and view the complete list of your websiteกs indexed pages.

Your third check determines the number of inbound links from other websites to your website. The number of inbound links is very important in the ranking algorithms of many of the search engines. The commands for this exercise are slightly different between the search engines. Weกll review the commands for the three major search engines. The other search engines have similar commands.

Google & MSN

Open your web browser to the Google or MSN website. Enter the กlinkก command and your websiteกs URL in the search box in the format กlink: www.yourdomainname.comก (quotation marks not required) and review the search results.

All the external website pages linked to your website and indexed by the queried search engine should be listed. At the top of the search results screen look for ‘results X Y of Z linking to www.yourdomainname.comก or a similar phrase. The value for Z indicates the total number of externally linked pages to your website.

Yahoo

Open your web browser and go to the Yahoo website. Enter the กlinkdomainก and กsiteก command and your websiteกs URL in the search box in the format กlinkdomain:www.yourdomainname.com site:www.yourdomainname.comก (quotation marks not required). The กsiteก command is used exclude the internally linked website pages from the results.

Review the search results. All the external website pages linked to your website and indexed by Yahoo should be listed. At the top right of the search results screen look for ‘results X Y of Z linking to www.yourdomainname.com.ก The value for Z indicates the total number of externally linked pages to your website.

Do not be alarmed if the displayed results from Yahoo and MSN are significantly different from Google. Recently, Google began displaying limited or no results from the กlinkก command. The general conclusion from the search engine optimization community was that Google felt disclosing the link information might possibly share too much information regarding their ranking algorithm and its impact on a specific website.

From these three simple checks you should have determined if the search engines know the existence of your website and be prepared to select the proper search engine promotion campaign. A payperclick search engine campaign would be a good choice if your websiteกs search engine visibility is limited and the time deadline to achieve your desired search engine rankings is short. If the time to achieve the desired search engine rankings is not critical to your websiteกs marketing plans, then a search engine optimization campaign to improve the standard search results could be a logical decision.
