Getting Started & Making Money on eBay!

Getting Started & Making Money on eBay!

by: Lynn Terry

Click Here to hear this topic LIVE on the Entrepreneur Magazine Home Biz Show, with Guest Lynn Terry of Web Service Network: http://media1.select.net/wsradioarchive/sho_hbbiz5021903.wma (opens in Windows Media Player)

eBay receives over 1.5 billion page views per month! Over 9,000 new users register with eBay every day! This makes eBay one of the greatest moneymaking opportunities on the internet! Below youกll find Selling Tips & resources that will help you cash in on the eBay market!

Sure, I want to make money on eBay… but what would I sell??

You can sell virtually anything on eBay! From household items you would normally sell in a yard sale for pennies on the dollar, to informational products (advertising space, ebooks, books, publications, reports, etc) that don’t even require shipping!

Do some research! Choose an item (clothing, a book, electronics something specific), and see how well it has done on eBay in the past by searching similar completed auctions.

The same item may bring much higher bids in one auction than it does another… Pay close attention to the differences in their ads: Starting/Ending Time, Title or Headline, Description & Photos.

Some items, such as computers & electronics, tend to bring the highest bid when they end on Saturday night. Keep in mind the time zone differences, and try not to set auctions to end during church time or business hours on either the east coast or the west coast. Internet advertising, and informational products (which target the office worker or home business owner) might do best on a weekday in the afternoon hours. Get the idea?

Next you will want to line up the products you have chosen to sell…

Make that item SELL!

You must add good, clear pictures of your product to your auction listing! Using either a digital camera or scanner, make sure you take clear pictures that show detail.

Gain attention to your auction by making the most of the 45Character Title! For example, lets say you were selling a piece of unused software:

QUICKBOOKS PRO 2002 5 USER NEW/SEALED

Accounting Software Program for sale

Obviously, the first title would get more clicks!

Next is your description… Include everything about your product size, dimensions, brand name, etc… any pertinent details. Add extra pictures without extra cost by using a free image hosting service and simple html tags.

If you don’t know HTML, you can use a program to create it for you… You can learn some basic commands at www.HTMLGoodies.com .

Tip: If you create your description in Frontpage, Dreamweaver, or any other web design program, you can simply copy the code and then paste it into the description field on the eBay form.

Your About Me Page

Once you sign up for your free eBay account, and get ready to sell, be sure to set up your About Me page! This is the one place that you can tell all of your potential bidders about yourself, your website, and your product line. What you aren’t allowed to include in your auction description… you CAN include here! A colorful กmeก image shows up beside your eBay user name on all pages & transactions, allowing viewers to click for more information.

See these examples:

http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/hostmary/

http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/lynn%40webservicenetwork.com/

Followup & Backend Sales

Be sure that you use a signature file in all email communication with bidders & auction winners. Include information about your website, your contact information, and include a PS if you would like to bring their attention to something else they may be interested in.

Follow up with your auction winners via email and make sure that they received the item and are happy with it. Encourage them to leave you feedback, and do the same for them. This promotes confidence in future potential bidders that you are a legitimate seller.

10 Killer Ways To Multiply Your Sales

10 Killer Ways To Multiply Your Sales

by: Frank Bauer

Would you like to multiply your web site sales? Or course you would, who wouldn’t? 🙂 Then take a close look at the following 10 killer ways to multiply your sales…

1. When you make a sale, always followup with the customer. First you should followup with a ‘thank youก email.

Then, a few days later, you can followup up and as them if they are satisfied with their purchase or if they have any questions.

After a certain time, you should followup and ask them for their feedback, good or bad and possibly for a testimonial.

All your followup messages can include a small advertisement for other products you sell.

If you use a fn automated system to do this, it will not even take a minute of your time to do all the followups.

2. You could upsell to your customers. When they’re at your order page, tell them about a few extra related products you have for sale. They could just add it to their original order.

Or you can upsell your visitors from a standard version to a professional version of your product or service.

3. Tell your customers if they refer four customers to your web site, they will receive a full rebate of their purchase price. This will turn one sale into four sales.

This can be easily done placing a referafriend form on your order ‘thank youก page.

4. When you sell a product, give your customers the option of joining an affiliate program so they can make commissions selling your product. This will multiply the sale you just made.

For example… do that in one of your followup messages mentioned in the first point above.

5. Sell the reprint/reproduction rights to your products. You could include an ad on or with the product for other products you sell. You could make sales for the reproduction rights and sales on the back end product.

You could also product licenses in bulk at a discounted rate to resellers. Then they can sell it at retail price and keep to profit.

6. You could cross promote your product with other businessesก products in a package deal. You can include an ad or flyer for other products you sell and have other businesses selling for you.

This is a great way to joint venture with other businesses as it is mutual beneficial for both sides.

7. When you ship out or deliver your product, include a coupon for other related products you sell in the package. This will attract them to buy more products from you.

Of course you can also include coupon codes in one of your followup emails.

8. Send your customers a catalog of addon products for the original product they purchased. This could be upgrades, special services, attachments, etc. If they enjoy your product they will buy the extra addons.

If you create an online catalog for delivery by email (again, this is good for another followup email), I recommend to use Adobe Acrobat to create a PDF catalog.

This way your customers will be able to read it, no matter what operating system they use on their computer.

9. Sell gift certificates for your products. Youกll make sales from the purchase of the gift certificate, when the recipient cashes it in. They could also buy other items from your web site.

To do that online, you could simply send the customer a personal coupon code, that they can on to the lucky person.

10. Send your customers free products with their product package. The freebies should have your ad printed on them. It could be bumper stickers, ball caps, tshirts etc. This will allow other people to see your ad and order.

Online you could give them free versions or trial copies of your other products, together with their paid product.

The Ultimate PR Edge: Getting Reporters To Open Yo

The Ultimate PR Edge: Getting Reporters To Open Your EMails

by: Bill Stoller

You know that getting publicity is vital to the health of your business. You probably also know that email is the way most publicity seekers get in touch with reporters to score that precious coverage. Here’s what you don’t know: The vast majority of emails sent to journalists never get read.
Bottom line: if your emails don’t get read, you have no shot at getting the publicity you so desperately need.
Hereกs how to beat the odds:
Avoiding the Spam Trap
To a spam filter, your humble email pitch may appear to contain an array of trigger words and suspicious phrases. A server that relayed your message may be on a blacklist a กdo not openก list of known spammers. Or perhaps the filter’s having a tough day and has decided to start blocking things arbitrarily. You can’t prevent every instance of spam blocking, but you can take some steps to help lessen the chances of your email ending up in a black hole.
The most important step is learning how spam filters think, and creating emails that avoid the usual pitfalls. Fortunately, you’ll find that once you can do this many spam triggers are easily avoided.
Rather than taking up space here with all the howto’s, allow me to simply direct you a terrific site on the subject: http://www.wordbiz.com/avoidspamfilters.html
Getting Your EMail Opened & Read
After beating the spam filter, next up is getting your email opened and read. The key: the subject line. No matter how on themoney your pitch, a subpar subject line will kill any chance of getting the reporter’s attention. You’ve got one shot at getting your email opened, make the most of it with a killer subject line.
Here’s how to do it:

Place the word กNewsก or กPress Infoก or กStory Ideaก at the beginning of your email subject line, in brackets e.g.: [Story Idea]:
Try to incorporate the reporterกs first name also at the beginning of the subject line.
If you know the name of the reporterกs column, for instance กCooking with Lindaก, also try to incorporate that. One more thing if the reporter doesn’t write a regular column, try to at least include their beat (e.g. Joe, re: your future pieces on the wifi industry).

With these three tips in mind, a successful email subject line might read:
[Story Idea]: Linda, Hereกs a Tip for Your กCooking with Lindaก Column
That’s a heading that will stand head and shoulders above the rest.
Here are a few more email do’s and don’ts: Do:

Make the information you place in the subject line short and to the point. Often, reporterกs email software cuts off the subject at only a few words.
Don’t get cute or be too vague in your subject line. For example กHere’s a Great Story!ก is vague and sounds like spam; ‘this Will Win You A Pulitzer!ก will make you look silly (unless you’re delivering the scoop of the century, of course!).
Try to make your most newsworthy points at the top of your e mail message don’t expect a reporter to scroll down to find the news.
Include your contact information, including cell phone, email address, regular address, fax number & website URL at the beginning and end of the email.
Include a link to your website if you have additional information such as: photos, press releases, bios, surveys, etc.

Don’t:

Include more than a short pitch letter or press release in the body of your email.
Allow typos or grammatical errors.
Include an attachment with your email. In this day and age of sinister viruses, reporters automatically delete email with attachments.
Place the following words (by themselves) in the subject line: กHiก, กHelloก the mediaกs spam filters will pounce and destroy.
Send an email with a blank subject line.

A cool tip: Use Google News (www.news.google.com) to search for recent stories that have appeared relating to your industry or field of interest. Then, email the reporter directly (use a subject line such as Re: Your July 5th piece on electric cars). Give positive feedback on the story and let him know that, next time he’s working an electric car story, he should get in touch, as you’re an expert with provocative things to say. Give a couple of supporting facts to back up the assertion, include your phone number and web link, and ask if he’d like to see a full press kit. This technique really works!

Tooting Your Own Horn

Tooting Your Own Horn

by: C.J. Hayden

กIf he who has a thing to sell Goes and whispers in a well, He won’t be so apt to make the dollars As he who climbs a tree and hollers!ก Anonymous
Every day in your business, something happens that others should know about. You give exceptional service to a client; you reach out to a new type of customer; you demonstrate your expertise on an important topic. Yet most of the time, the only people aware of these significant events are the individual you are speaking with and you.
We might chuckle at artists or performers who are waiting to be กdiscovered,ก but sometimes business owners are just as guilty of hanging back when thereกs boasting to be done. Below are some examples of occasions for informing the media, your clients, referral partners, and very importantly, POTENTIAL clients that you have done something special:

Winning an award or competition
Being elected or appointed to office in a professional or civic organization
Obtaining an important new client or contract
Giving noteworthy service to an existing client
Opening or relocating your office
Expanding to serve a new market
Offering a new product or service
Launching a new or redesigned web site
Publishing the first issue of a newsletter
Reporting an invention or discovery
Expressing a unique opinion on a topical subject
Being selected to speak at a major conference
Completing a survey or study
Having an article, white paper, or book published
Getting a mention in the news
Landing an interview on radio, TV, or a live chat

When any one of these events occurs, notify all your clients, prospects, and referral partners by letter or email. Include a copy of any item referenced in your letter, or let readers know where they can learn more. For example, if you will be speaking at a conference, mail a copy of the program, or mention the conference web site.
It gives you extra credibility if the event you’re reporting is also acknowledged by someone else. When you give great service to a client, ask for a testimonial letter. Then include the letter in mailings and your marketing kit.
Many of these developments are newsworthy enough to inform the media. Write a news release describing what has occurred and your opinion about it. If you win an award, describe how it made you feel. If you are elected to office, outline your goals for the organization. Include in your release a brief paragraph about your background.
Send your news release to your own trade press and all your local media outlets. If you are nationally known already, include national outlets as well. Follow up with a phone call to offer additional information and find out if they plan to run the item.
When you do appear in the news, no matter how small the mention, capitalize on it. Unless you are on the cover of a major publication or featured on national TV, don’t expect a lot of people to contact you as a result of your appearance alone.
In addition to reprinting articles about you or by you for everyone on your mailing list, keep them on hand. Include them in your marketing kit for prospective clients, speaking engagements, and future media opportunities. Use them as handouts at trade shows. Frame them and hang them on the wall of your office. Post links or entire articles on your web site.
When you land a radio, TV, or live chat interview, let everyone on your mailing list know when you will be on. Youกll probably get more business from telling people about it than you do from the program itself.

Writing a Book’s Marketing Plan for Maximum Profit

Writing a Book’s Marketing Plan for Maximum Profit

by: Roger C. Parker

Much has been written about book proposals. But less has been written about book marketing plans. This is wrong!
What happens after your book is published has a great deal to do with whether you become published and profitable… or just published.
A book proposal is a directmarketing document intended to persuade publishers to edit, print and distribute your book. It’s a sales piece intended to communicate the inevitability of your book’s success.
Your book’s marketing plan, however, is intended for an audience of one – You! It’s not intended for your publisher. Rather, it’s intended to identify the revenue streams that you will develop after your book is published.
Your marketing plan should describe profits you will earn above and beyond royalties from sales of your book. It should describe in detail your market and the steps you will take to earn this income.
The reason to prepare your marketing plan now, before you sign a publishing contract or write your book, is that the success of your marketing plan depends on the way your book publishing contract is negotiated.
Coaching and consulting
Let’s assume, for example, that you plan to use your book as a way of enhancing your visibility and credibility among your target market. At the simplest level, you will want to include your web site address at several points in the book. Knowing this goal, you can insist that the publisher agrees in writing to include your web site address in specific locations in your book.
Remember: promises don’t make it! Let’s take the worst case scenario. You and your acquisition editor agree that you can include five mentions of your web site address in the book. However, as often occurs, the acquisition editor, after signing the contract, fades out of the picture.
The new development editor then informs you that author’s URL’s can only appear in one place, in the author biography hidden toward the rear of the book. When this happens, what happens to your coaching and consulting plans?
Likewise, you may have planned to buy books in case lot quantities for resale and/or distribution to your prospects and clients. Understanding this before you sign the contract, you can include the right to purchase books for resale at trade discounts in your contract, ensuring your ‘book pipeline’ won’t get turned off.
If you know you want to offer telephone coaching at $75.00 a call, for example, you can negotiate written permission to promote this service within the body of your book.
Remember: promises are written on air. Only written agreements count!
Other backend profit opportunities based on your book’s title include:

Articles, columns, newsletters
Yearly updates
Special Reports
Teleclasses and seminars
Speaking and training
Audio/video recordings
Choosing a web site address based on your book’s title
Free downloads of sample chapters from your web site
Feebased web site services

The possibilities are endless, but nothing can happen if, after signing the contract, the publisher limits your ability to promote your business and your website in your book.
Thus, it’s imperative that you start by preparing a marketing plan that analyzes postpublication profit opportunities and describes the steps needed to make them happen. Only then are you in a position to decide if the publisher’s ‘boilerplate’ contract meets your needs.
The stronger your book proposal and the more experienced your agent, the more likely you’ll get what you want (need) in your contract.
Jay Conrad Levinson says the first volume of his Guerrilla Marketing series earned him thirty million dollars. But only about $35,000 came from the book itself. All the rest came from backend profits.
That’s how important this issue is!

Using Your Personal Website To Clinch That Job!

Using Your Personal Website To Clinch That Job!

by: Colin Ong Tau Shien

With an increasing number of employment portals emerging, it is apparent that internet tools do help bring the jobseeker and the potential employer together. A sophisticated job search engine enables the jobseeker to have a smaller sample of relevant job openings instead of going through countless newspaper advertisements.

However, for most jobseekers, their resumes are not attractive enough. They can utilise their personal homepage to boost their chances of grabbing that allimportant interview.

Here are some tips:

Allow potential employers to email your referees:

It is important to invite potential employers to email to your referees. Alternatively, you can be systematic and create a simple online feedback form to enable employers to select the information needed and send this request to your referee. Remember to create a brief online profile of your referees to create more credibility.

Your Articles:

It is important to write about 5 articles that demonstrate your interests and allow them to download these articles as pdf files. Your employers maybe impressed with your maturity and willingness to share knowledge to the visitors of your website. For example, if you are seeking employment for a marketing position, you should include an original article about the advantages of internet marketing.

Your Electronic Newsletter:

A natural progression from providing free articles is to invite visitors to be part of your ezine. It will also be advisable to inform subscribers about the contents of your free ezine and to invite article contributions. A certain measure of success is if your ezine membership can swell to about 500 people.

Using the marketing post as an illustration again, if a forwardlooking organisation hires you, they may request that you include their corporate profile and website as a link from your ezine. In the same way, your ezine can also be featured in their corporate website. If you have not embarked on creating an ezine, great places to start are at I Make News.com and Constant Contact.com.

Mini ebook:

Alternatively, you can create a mini ebook. The rule of creating an ebook is that your content should include articles that will be relevant for webmasters. The reason is that you invite people who download it to launch it off their website. Thus your ebook will help you gain awareness through different websites. Some examples of good ebook titles are ‘tips to getting more customersก, กMore traffic means more revenueก and ‘this ebook will make you richก etc.

Your favourite links:

Your potential employer can also understand more of your strengths and interests by viewing your links. Before you start adding links to your website, please ensure that you do not infringe any copyright laws. It will be wise to email the webmaster to seek permission to link to their website. You can also use this opportunity to request for their website logo if they do not provide an affiliate program. To further impress potential employers, you can include a footnote below your website that states กI will like to take this opportunity to thank the webmasters of the following sites for personally granting me permission to use their corporate logos to link back to them. I am honored to be associated with them.ก Providing acknowledgements do have privileges.

The Guest Book:

Use your guest book wisely. Employers may not be convinced about the credibility of noncorporate email postings to your guest book. You may consider encouraging visitors to send greetings using their corporate email. In return, you will allow them to use their signature file to provide a brief profile of their companies below their postings.

To start, my most recent website features a free classified advertising solution, a modified version of PhpBB stripped to function as an Article Bulletin Board (No replying), and a link directory. The business model of my Website offers free Classified Advertising, but charges a small fee for enhanced advertisements (Featured, Bolded, and Better Placement). The Classifieds were purchased from a developer, so I had little experience with the application. The link directory was a free resource of an old program that I modernized a bit. I choose the old link directory because the links are clean. They are not replaced with coding to count outbound traffic. I figured this would increase the value of links, to sites who exchanged links with me.
To increase revenue on the new site, I realized that I needed to increase the value of, ขFeatured Advertisementsข. To do this I wanted to randomly rotate featured advertisements, from the classifieds, across my Bulletin Board and Link Directory. Bare in mind, all three are run from a unique table, and I wanted to leave it that way. In addition, I had little experience with the development for all three applications.
I started reading tutorials and utilizing Forums to create a Php program for external pages on the site. The program would pull a random featured ad from the classified table. This program only took me about 32 hours to create, while performing research. I didn’t intend to get into the schematics of the program with this post, so forgive me if you are looking for a Random generator. But I would be more than happy to share my code upon request.
The code I created was simple, it worked just the way I wanted, but I ran into one cumbersome obstacle; how do I implement this easily across two unique table driven applications? The answer was to use a Php Include
I started reading tutorials on, กPhp includes and functions and classesก. I realized quickly that this was a bit more confusing than creating the actual coding. In addition, I ran into parsing errors if I included the new coding in only one application.
My solution to using the, กInclude (),ก Php function
I found that very few people were willing to provide any feedback for such a problem, even in the most resourceful forums for Php Coding and information resources. I fumbled with the coding for over 72 hours. I thought this was a bit ridiculous, as the code itself took less time to create.
I finally came across a helpful solution that may prove beneficial, if you are in the same situation with Php Includes. The code was uploaded onto my server as a file (something.php). I removed the standard, กPhp Include (),ก function from all links and the PhpBB coding. I then called the Php file (page) using an Iframe tag, on pages I wanted it to appear. This proved to be a successful replacement for the Php Include.
Search Engine Results Using Iframe for Php Include
I waited until Google came around to see how the Iframe affected my sites search rankings. Finally, the other day this happened. The conclusion, my search rankings still increased due to recent link exchanges. The code is working to my needs, and it is easily included on any page that I want, even externals outside my site can call on the code, which opens more doors for advancement.
Here is the simple Iframe code I used to replace the Php Include:
<iframe align=top valign=right width=600 height=105 marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 hspace=0 vspace=0 frameborder=0 scrolling=no src="http://your.com/filetoinclude.php" width=600 height=105></iframe>
Using the Iframe tag for Php Include Conclusion
I have encountered no problems with including my PHP code on pages across external servers, using the iframe as a Php Include. As you can see, it is totally customizable. You can specify the width, height, alignment, border, scrolling, margins and more. The only obstacle that I have encountered, is the style sheet that the site, or page, with the, กPhp Include,ก is not utilized. The page that the code is on seems to need its own unique style sheet.
I hope this proves beneficial to anyone having trouble with running a กPhp Includeก across various unique online applications.

3 Hot Ways To Crank Up Your Sales

3 Hot Ways To Crank Up Your Sales

by: Larry Dotson

1) QUICK FOLLOWUPS
When you make your first sale, followup with the customer. You could followup with a "thank you" email and include an advertisement for another product you sell. You can be more subtle including the offer within your signature file.
Another way is to take your customer to a "thank you" web page right after they order. You should thank them for their order and next begin to tell them about another product you sell. You could also include a picture or graphic of your product.
2) UPSELL ADDONS
You could upsell to your customers. When they’re at your order page, tell them about a few extra related products you have for sale. They could just add it to their original order.
Besides upselling on your order pages, you could give them a choice of a basic or deluxe edition of your product right in your sales letter. Your deluxe edition would include addon products with a higher price.
3) REBATES FOR SALES
Tell your customers if they refer four customers to your web site, they will receive a full rebate of their purchase price. This will turn one sale into three sales.
An additional option would be to give your customer a rebate on one of their products if they would buy two extra products. This type of rebate can double your sales.
QUICK READ SUMMARY
1. Followup with customers to sell extra products using "thank you" emails and web pages.
2. Upsell to your prospects with differently priced packages and product addons.
3. Give your customers rebates for their purchases when they buy extra products and give referrals.
