Keywords – Key For All Doors

Keywords – Key For All Doors

by: Zoran Makrevski

Keyword research is certainly the most important phase in Search Engine Optimization process. Whether you hire a SEO company to do the job or you are doing the SEO process inhouse, take your time during this process. You should not be a spectator, but you should be an active part of the decision making process.

Try to think as a customer

Before to start the keywords analysis & research process, be sure that you know how you should perform this process. Try to think about your keywords as a customer. How would you search for your product or service? Which keyword or key phrase would you use? Think about which words or phrases describe best your product or service.

Generic keywords vs. highly targeted key phrases

Surprisingly many companies still believe that increased traffic will necessary lead to increased sales. Unfortunately this is very far from the truth. If traffic is not well targeted, visitors will not found what they are looking for, and they won’t order anything.

Many companies still make the mistake to attempt to get ranked for generic keywords. This is often costly mistake. You will simply loose your time, money and resources to get ranked for generic keyword. Chances are that if you are in competitive industry you won’t succeed to achieve top ranking. In many cases, even if you succeed to get high ranking for generic keyword you won’t benefit much from that. Let’s elaborate this with an example.

Key phrase ขshoes manufacturersข will return worldwide results, and your competition will be very strong. Even if you manage to rank high, ขconversion to sales rateข will be fairly low. Some of the people would actually search for ขshoes manufacturersข which are located in Asia. They might enter on your site, and they will leave without to order anything. You will get more traffic, and you want increase your sales or establish new business contacts. None of your goals will be achieved.

That is because your product or service is not exactly what the people are searching for. Key phrases like ขUK shoes manufacturersข or ขEU shoes manufacturersข will have better conversion and you will get high ranking faster. Why? It’s easier to get ranked for these key phrases because of smaller number of competitors. From the other side, because of better targeting your conversion rate would be higher, because your traffic is better targeted.

Best approach to do find right keywords and key phrases is to get your generic keyword, and add a specific word to it. Using this approach you will be able to find yours most important key phrases, and target your traffic much better. Key phrases are usually two to five words long.

Think global

In different countries people use different terminology for same product or service. Be sure that you check your terminology for your main keywords. Different terminology for your keyword might be used in Canada, or in Australia. Follow your site statistic, and if some country is missing, something might be wrong with your terminology.

How many keywords do you need

Number of the key phrases for which you will optimize your pages will depend from your budget of course. But be sure to create long list to select from. Initial keyword research should end with at least 70 100 keywords or key phrases.

Your first thought here might be how you will find so many keywords. Creativity and well knowing your industry will do half of the work. The tools will do the other half. Wordtracker has free trial which will tell you how many times the key phrase was searched for last month. Full version (you can pay for one day only if you want to use this tool once) is much more powerful tool of course. Overture has also free tool for keyword research which will give you useful suggestions. These tools will give you suggestions which you might not come to your mind, and tell you how many competitors you have for every keyword.

Next phase should be customizing some of these suggestions and make the recheck after that. After establishing the main list, start the elimination. Have in mind that your chances are bigger if you select bigger number of keywords. It is always best strategy to optimize each page for one primary and one secondary keyword. Optimize your main page for your most important key phrase.

Final selection will depend from your budget. You can always optimize more pages later, so keep the initial keyword list. Best option is to start to optimize your pages for less competitive key phrases first. When you achieve high ranking for these key phrases, then go after more competitive key phrases.

UnCommon Sense Search Engine Optimization Strateg

UnCommon Sense Search Engine Optimization Strategies

by: Kerry Emrich

Want to reach the top of Google for your niche, or keyword phrases? Don’t let it cause you stress or anxiety, simple read on…

Google, MSN, and Yahoo all use their own formulas to calculate the relevance of your pages, but here are a few common factors to guarantee you will rank above those not using them.

Start analyzing your pages today, don’t forget to resubmit the changes when you are done, and the traffic will start to flow.

1) Keyword Density

You should strive to obtain a keyword density in the 3.5 to 7 percent range for each of your pages. Do not overuse your keywords on the same page, instead simply use related keywords.

2) Keyword Phrase Choices

A single keyword is almost impossible to rank high for, so you should shoot for lower demand phrases. Overture lists the keyword กcoffeeก as being searched 370820 times per month. The keyword coffee has a huge amount of competition, but a keyword phrase such as กcoffee clubก is only searched 1813 times. Of course ranking number one for coffee would be fantastic, but ranking well for many lower demand keywords should be an important part of search engine optimization strategies.

3) Original Content

Google will tend to penalize sites offering the same content resulting in lower ranking for all sites. Think about all the sites you have seen promoting the same resale rights product. They all have the same sales page. The best thing you could do is to simply rewrite the sales letter and submit that page to the search engines. This is an incredibly important Search Engine Optimization tip. Try to work in related words and phrases not just the top keywords.

4) Proper Linking

Make sure all your links use proper text. How many times have you seen กclick here to visitก on a website? Simply changing the link text will cause your page to rank higher in all the search engines. You can also choose related phrases for link text.

5) Repeat Keywords and Phrases

Always make sure that your selected keywords and phrases appear several times in each of your paragraphs. Try to add related keywords and phrases to help boost your SEO. Do not get involved with keyword stuffing (repeating the same keywords over and over), and make sure to leave some space between keyword occurrences (once every second or third line)

5) Stay Current

Visit SEO news sites to stay current with the latest trends. The engines are always changing their strategies and formulas so it is a good idea to read the latest news at least once a week. A great place to start is http://www.seobuzz.com

6) Alt Tags

When adding a photo or picture to your pages you should always add relevant keywords to the alt tags. This helps to boost your page rank with little work.

Taking the time to review your site, make the necessary changes, and staying current on the latest trends in SEO will help ensure that you achieve a top ranking site for your chosen keywords and key phrases.

How to Conduct Keyword Research

How to Conduct Keyword Research

by: Keith Baxter

One of the questions I’m most often asked is how I perform keyword research.

In this article, I will explain how I personally perform my own keyword research as well as some alternative methods.

Let’s begin with an explanation how most people do it and why this is a BAD idea.

First, most people use the Overture suggestion tool. This is a free solution which does give some useful info… if you know how to find it. I will explain this in a moment.

I do want to stress why I don’t personally care for this.

Keyword research is the foundation for your search engine optimization efforts. These are the VERY WORDS you are trying to have the engines rank you highly for. In my mind, this leaves little room for error, and by using the Overture suggestion tool, you are certainly leaving room for error.

Let me explain…

Overture assigns a search count to each one of the terms in their database. Unfortunately, these numbers are skewed. When ANY automated keyword search tool is used to query their DB for keywords, their numbers for that search term also increase. By inflating these numbers, it’s giving the keyword searcher false data. You see, the goal is to get the data on searched terms from the search engines, not by people researching them.

Another downfall to the Overture system is that the search terms are often mixed up from the originally searched term. For instance, if I were to search for ’24 hour fitness’, I may actually get a result that shows ‘hour fitness 24’. If you optimized a page for the mixed up term, and you wonder why you’re getting little traffic (but have a number 1 ranking on that term), it’s because that term is very rarely searched for, despite what Overture may show.

There are other negatives associated with the Overture keyword search tool, but the two I presented should be sufficient to warrant you to look for alternatives.

Before I proceed, I do want to tell you that some innovative entrepreneurs have come up with solutions that use the Overture database in a fashion that’s MUCH better than using the database directly.

I’ve listed them below. I suggest you check them out for yourself. I own them, and have used them in the past.

Product Idea Evaluator http://www.productideaevaluator.com/

Niche Finder http://www.nichemarketresearch.com/

Better Keywords http://www.searchguild.com/utils.html

Onwards…

This is how I personally do my own keyword research.

It’s actually simple, but does require a paid version of http://www.WordTracker.com.

For my most common use, I will use the ‘Keyword Universe’ feature. Note… there are occasions where the best starting point is the ‘Comprehensive Search’. Start there if you have a very generic starting keyword.

Here’s what I do…

I input my starting keyword into the Keyword Universe search box. I then drill down in the results that appear below this box and find the top 35 terms that best fits what I’m looking for. I then click on the first of those 35. All terms that are actually search on are presented in a results column on the right hand side of the screen. Beginning at the top, I navigate through each of the resulting terms and add any to my list that I find will be potentially beneficial to me. Wordtracker allows you to put these keywords in a ‘basket’ in order to use them for additional research.

Once I’ve completed going though each list (for my 35 terms). I will continue to the competition search function within Wordtracker. I use Google and Yahoo as my market gauge. These are the primary two search engines I generally focus on, so I want to know how I may fair in their indexes.

Now, most people stop here, I don’t. I use the export to email function of Wordtracker and email myself the results. Once I receive the email, I import them into a program called ‘Keyword Results Analyzer’ which can be found here: http://kra.ezsearchengineoptimization.com/.

Once I have these imported and sorted through this software, I extract any and all keywords with a KEI score over 10.

Now, I have a list of keywords to work with.

If you follow my method, you will consistently find yourself using keywords that have the greatest probability for being highly ranked in the search engines.

Targeted Traffic with Pay Per Click’s

Targeted Traffic with Pay Per Click’s

by: Dirk Wagner

In order for your online business to succeed you must get targeted traffic to your website. No matter what product or service you are selling, if you don’t make sales you won’t be in business for very long!
One of the best ways to get targeted traffic to your website is through Pay Per Click Ads. If you have spent any time surfing the world wide web or used search engines to seek out a particular keyword or phrase then you have more than likely seen Pay Per Click (PPC) ads. Two of the most popular PPC’s are Google Ad words http://www.google.com which are featured prominently on many websites on the net and Overture http://www.overture.com which list sites in search engine results like Yahoo, AltaVista, MSN, etc, across the net. However, there are literally thousands of PPC search engines on the web today to choose from.
PPC ads offer a way to attract relatively cheap targeted traffic to your website and product or service. Here is how PPC ads work.
You bid on specific keywords or keyphrases to have your search engine listing or short ad come up when people search for that specific keyword. For example, if you are selling Golf accessories, you would bid to have your site ad come up when a person searches for กGolf Clubsก. If the person sees your ad and is interested and they click on it and you simply pay your bid amount. That is targeted traffic.
You may bid $1 to get listed at the top of the search result, but your competitor could then bid 1.05 and outbid and move ahead of you. This does happen unless you are able to bid on less popular search terms that your competitors do not and still many people use.
Bids for the top positions vary from pennies to a few dollars, but most PPC search engines have keyword suggestion tools to help you find keywords and their search results to suit your budget. You may bid on as many keywords as your budget can handle. A general rule of thumb would be to aim for one of the top two positions for keywords with low bid searches and aim for top 5 for keywords with higher volume searches.
You must be careful though to bid within your means! PPC’s are all about conversion rates. For example, if your conversion rate is 2 visitors per 100, and you make $10 per sale. Your maximum bid would be the following: conversion rate x profit per sale. In this example, it would be .02 X $10= 20 cents You should bid 20 cents or less to be profitable. This is something you must figure out on your own if you are using PPC’s for the first time in order to be successful.
Finally, your ad should follow certain guidelines. You want to describe your product or service in your ad as precise as possible. Remember you are not looking for ขtire kickersข because you are paying for their click whether they buy something or not! Link the ad to the specific product or service you are selling instead of sending prospects to your home page so the prospect does not have navigate to find what they clicked on originally. Try to include the keyword in the title or description. Statistics have shown this method to produce higher clicks. Good Luck!

Keywords, Competition and Being Number One Uncove

Keywords, Competition and Being Number One Uncovering the Algorithm

by: John Krycek

By following these steps you will see that most closely guarded secret the search algorithm. Remember the movie ‘the Matrix?ก The Matrix is there, you just can’t see it. So is the search algorithm.

Itกs easy to pay a Search Engine Optimizer to give your pages some ranking power. Unfortunately, given the inherent time factor involved in climbing the ranks, your money may be long gone before you know if youกve spent your money well.

THERE IS NO MAGIC PILL

Forget any advertisement you see for instant number one search results or automated this or that. Most are scams, and the ones that aren’t might get you positioned, but it will be very short lived.

Search engine optimization is an ongoing process. Achieving and maintaining a high rank, especially on highly competitive keywords, requires constant maintenance. If you do find a legitimate SEO firm, it is well worth the money to pay their monthly maintenance fee and let them continue to help you after the initial project. At least for 6 months or a year as you establish yourself.

In this article weกll look at some of the intricate and complex tasks of optimizing a page for long term ranking power. You will learn how to read between the code and the content to find what is necessary to bring you to the top. Being number one is easy to say, but is quickly overwhelming when you stare at tens of thousands of pages you want to out rank. So how do you begin?

The starting line on the road to that first page SERP (search engine results page) ranking is not as blurry as you might think. In fact, you can uncover the starting line, the route, and all the scenery along the way to the finish line without knowing the search engine algorithm.

STEP 1 YOUR KEYWORDS ARE THE CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT OF GRUELLING DAYS OF WORK

If you have investments in the stock market you know how much research and thought goes into choosing those securities. Now take that same effort and multiply it by three. Thatกs how much planning and revision your keywords should take.

A simple, broad key phrase like กshoesก could hypothetically bring you up in a countless stream of different searches. Womenกs shoes, baby shoes, sneakers, high heels, etc. If somehow you manage to settle into a good ranking (which would be difficult) you would have more traffic on your site than you could handle. But traffic is worthless is it doesn’t get to itกs destination. Chances are, you weren’t that destination.

Your keywords must be focused and precise, specific to what you are selling. Using a key phrase like กGucci mens black leather loaferก will bring a targeted lead to your site. You may not reach as many people as the more generalized keyword, but the people that do come to you have a much deeper interest in the specific product you are selling.

Therefore you have much greater chance of converting that targeted lead to a sale. Your keywords are your magic beans, your winning lotto numbers, your energizer bunnies, your sales force, whatever you want to call them. They must be perfect.

STEP 2 WANT TO BE NUMBER ONE? LOOK AT WHO ALREADY IS

Competition Analysis no SEO book can give you this information.

Now take your keyword list and type them into a search engine. Who comes up in the first ten results? That company that is number one is because they have most closely matched what the search engine algorithm says should be number one. You can learn a great deal from them.

A. INTERNAL FACTORS

Take that number one page, and the other top 9 pages and study them, look at the code, break them down. You are looking at the first half of what is needed to rank in the top 10 pages for your key phrases on that particular search engine. The list of what to look for is enormous.

Studying the Internal Factors on a page is taking it apart to see how itกs put together. Not how it works, but statistical research into the precise construct and layout of keywords and phrases in relation to each other within the page.

Start with these areas:

URL address, Page Title, Meta description, Meta Keywords, First sentence on the page, Body copy, Bold or Emphasized Phrases, H1 or other tags, Alt Tags, Navigation system

In each of those sections, look at:

Keyword densities the number of times your phrase and each word in your phrase appears compared to the text around it

Where and in how many times the same phrase and words appear in different sections

The word and character position of each phrase in each

The total number of characters

The total number of words

The quality and thought of the content

Beginning with these comparisons should keep you quite busy for a while. A spreadsheet is quite useful. Some commercial products are also available that can make this daunting task much more feasible. Keep looking for other patterns and differences. You want to duplicate them in your own page. NOT copy and steal. You want to mimic the patterns that are bringing that page to the position it is. Then move onto to examining the external factors of these pages.

B. EXTERNAL FACTORS

External factors of a web page deal with the links to, from and within a web page, both inside the same site, and out into the web. This analysis usually takes more time because it involves more dissection of pages beyond the one you’re trying to optimize.

In this analysis as with Internal Factors, you want to compare and contrast your page versus the top 10 competitors, find similarities and differences. Here is a list of criteria to get you started.

Number of internal (to the same site) on that page

Number of external links

Number of links pointing TO that page* (see below for details)

The link/anchor text which keywords are used and where

Google Page Rank value of incoming links

Alexa Rank of incoming links

*To get a listing of the links that point to a site, type the following into Google, MSN and Yahoo searches: กlink:www.domainname.comก. Google tends to only show a small portion of the links back, but MSN and Yahoo will give you much more pertinent data.

Now you want to compare the content on each of these pages to the one they point to. Is it of similar theme, in what context does the link back appear and where. Subject of much debate, the consensus is that Google Page Rank does not mean what it used to. However, if it is in some fashion a measure of how significant or กimportantก a site is, it is worth looking more closely at the sites that link back that are of high page rank.

EVEN A SURGEON USES TOOLS

Now, this is definitely a ton of work to do all by hand. There are software programs that can help do some of the digging and mathematical computations for you, figuring out densities and organizing information.

Tools like this are definitely ones a professional SEO will have in their arsenal. But remember, these are tools, not miracle workers. It takes a human being to evaluate and realize connections, similarities, draw conclusions and interpret the data. Then, you have to extrapolate this data.

Remember, you want to do one better than every site you just examined. To do that you have to draw some conclusions and make some educated guesses and link to even better sites.

FINAL THOUGHTS

You have access to the inner workings of every page that you want to beat. Learn from them and do one better. This process is not a onetime shot. It is ongoing. Check your key phrases every week. Do the same people still rank in the top ten?

Some have probably moved. Remember too that they’re going to adapt to maintain their positions too. If you want the ranks, you have to spend the time, and not just once, or pay someone to do it for you.

Don’t ever believe anyone who says they can guarantee any kind of results. And ask them how they will optimize your pages. If they explain to you something like the above, then youกve probably got yourself someone experienced and honest. You money will be well spent and youกll quickly recover it.

5 Secret Tips to Effective Pay Per Click Advertisi

5 Secret Tips to Effective Pay Per Click Advertising

by: Jan Peterson

Yes, pay per click advertising will cost you but if you do it right, it should make you money. If you are running pay per click advertising campaign and more money is going out than coming in, something is not right. Here are 5 steps to targeting the right keywords and minimizing costs.

Are your keywords too broad?

Letกs just say you have developed an amazing diet drink that is safe, effective, tasty and will guarantee that people will lose 15 lbs in 30 days. You know you have a product that is a winner and are excited about marketing it on the World Wide Web. However, you are relatively new to the Web and pick keywords that are too general and expensive like กdietingก or กweight lossก. Not only are you perhaps disappointed by your PPC advertising results but it will likely be draining your bank account. This is why niche keywords are so important. Look at bidding on keywords such as กweight loss supplementก or กweight loss drinkก. Go to Overture or Word Tracker and find keywords that are more niche oriented and not so competitive.

Is your ad dull or attention getting?

It is worthwhile to spend some time learning about effective copy writing. It could be the difference between mediocrity and success. You want to know how to get someoneกs attention. Unfortunately saying กI have the best diet drink on the planetก doesn’t work. You have to motivate and inspire people to take their time to look at what you have to offer. And, in pay per click advertising you have to do it in very few words. This can be a challenge. Learn the words that sell or attract or grab someoneกs attention like กMust seeก, กQuick resultsก, กNew…ก, ‘the truth…ก, กGroundbreaking…ก, กInstant…ก

Double Check your URL!

Sounds like a nobrainer but many times people either misspell their URL or send someone to their home page instead of the page that directly relates to their question. In other words, you may have a website that is dedicated to weight loss but in your pay per click advertising, you want to direct them specifically to your diet drink. So, you would want your URL to read http://www.myweightlosssite.com/dietdrink.html. There is nothing more frustrating to the website visitor than having to go hunting for the information. Your job is to make it easy to find and informative. If they have to look long, they will leave. These are dollars lost to you.

What is your competition doing?

It is likely that your competitors who have a high PR (page rank) and continue to advertise, are doing something right. Learn from those who are successful. While the differences may seem subtle to you, in the World of PPC advertising a word or sentence can discourage or invite a potential website visitor.

What should my title be for my PPC ad ?

Plain and simple use the keyword that is being searched on. Don’t get fancy or creative here. If someone is looking for diet drink then your ad title is กdiet drinkก. Give the website visitor what they want.

The bidding war is on

Try your best not to get caught in the bidding war game. There are plenty of ways to drive traffic to your site without spending a fortune. General keywords will always have high prices like กdieting.ก Don’t fall for the trap. Most refined keywords will have lower priced bids but are excellent because they will target your traffic. A Website visitor may only be looking for diet recipes and dislike diet drinks. They are not your customer. Same for the website visitor who may want to toneup while they are dieting. The more specific you can target your market, the better you will do.

Two other tips: If all the bids are around 25 cents and the lead bid is at $5.00, you know someone is trying to own the number 1 position. If you want to have fun bid $4.99 and they will get nailed $5.00 for every click and you will only pay 26 cents if they click on your ad. Warning though: if you want to play this game, keep an eye out so they don’t drop their bid. I sometimes do this as a temporary measure to bring someone back to fair playing grounds.

Secondly, keep any eye on all of your bids. People do change what they are willing to bid on any given keyword or search term. I do an overview every few days.

The test results are back

One last key to good pay per click advertising is testing your ads. You can set up two different campaigns and rotate them for the same period of time. What you might learn could surprise you and benefit your bank account!

The Google Adsense Money Checks Or Extra Income Ch

The Google Adsense Money Checks Or Extra Income ChecksPart 1 Of 3

by: Kenneth Echie

Since I have been using AdSense and getting AdSense Money checks, I have come to learn some useful tips that would help you make money with AdSense. These tips, along with the systems in my ebook, helped me increase my AdSense income by 560%. If you are starting, check out these tips before you start using AdSense. If you’re already using AdSense, incorporate these tips into your AdSense program and see your income soar.

This is part 1 of 3 of these tips. You can get the other parts on at my website: http://www.extraincomeideas.com/articles.html or my AdSense Money EBook: http://www.bye925.com/adm

Making Money with AdSense Tip #1:

Start now! It’s as easy as falling off a log to generating revenue with Google AdSense. After you’re accepted to the program, just add a few lines of html code to your site (Google shows you how once you’re accepted) and voila!

Within a few minutes, your site will begin displaying AdWords, and so you can start making money. Each day you wait means you don’t make the bucks you could. So start now.

Making Money with AdSense Tip #2:

Make content pages for your site and put AdWords on them. Assuming your page is a decent one, the more pages you have displaying AdWords, the more money youกll earn.

If you already have a website, display AdWords on more pages.

And always, always, always focus on making more great content pages. I suggest that you budget time each week for creating pages (and sites) on topics you love. Youกll find more on creating AdSense content pages in Tip #8.

And it’s especially good if these content pages are very clearly focused. Then, Google will be able to serve highly relevant AdWords to your users. This means your visitors will be more interested in the ads, which results in higher click through rates and more money for you!

Making Money with AdSense Tip #3:

Whenever you can, use higher paying keywords.

Obviously, youกll earn more if the average AdWord that Google displays pays more per click.

The question is: how do you get Google to display higher paying keywords?

Well, for one thing, don’t get greedy and create pages on unrelated keywords just because they pay more. In other words, don’t create a page on กcell phone plansก on your motorcycle tire site just because กcell phone plansก pays more than ‘motorcycle tires.’

How to find out which keywords pay best? If you’re a Google AdWords advertiser, you can log into your AdWords account and experiment.

If you’re not an AdWords advertiser, use a free tool at the payperclick search engine, Overture.

Overture’s tool lets you see what advertisers are paying on Overture for each keyword. Sure, Overture and Google don’t pay the same. But they’re not all that different, and this tool can give you a general idea of which keywords will pay more than others.

(Also, don’t’ forget Google’s commission, so you have to allow for their cut on the amount an advertiser pays for each click.)

In closing, I want to say that these strategies can help you maximize your revenue from Google AdSense. Look for my other tips and supercharge your AdSense Income.

So what’re you waiting for? Go to Google AdSense right now, and start getting those AdSense money checks!

Search Engine Submission Techniques on Google

Search Engine Submission Techniques on Google

by: Ivana Giardi

The orientation guide for businesses getting started online

Over the years of its existence Google gained a welldeserved reputation as the top choice for internet users. Providing a comprehensive coverage of the web and returning searched queries with great relevancy in less than a second, Google certainly is the internet’s front door.

Because of the popularity of this search engine, it is critical to get your website listed in Google and achieve a high ranking in search results. There are two types of listing you will find in Google search results: free listings and sponsored listings.

• Free listings

To have your website listed on Google search results for free you firstly need to submit your website to be indexed at http://www.google.com.au/addurl.html. Google is a spiderbased search engine that automatically visits web pages to compile its database. After you submit your web site, your site will be first stored in a ‘temporaryก database. Then Google will send a กspiderก in a regular time to กvisitก your web site to decide whether it should be indexed. This process is called Search Engine Submission.

However, successful submission does not mean your website will necessarily rank well for particular terms. Making your website Google friendly in order to achieve a good ranking can be done through Search Engine Optimization (which will be explained later on in this article).

• Sponsored Listings (Google AdWords)

Google also sells sponsored listings through its advertising program Google AdWords. Those sponsored listings appear on the top and on the righthand side of regular search results.

Once you sing up for Google AdWords program at www.google.com/ads, your listing appears on Google almost instantly and the impact on your website traffic and sales is practically immediate.

Sponsored listings often represent a great alternative for new websites or websites having difficulties to get indexed by Google.

1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The majority of internet users search information by using search engines. A query on Google often reveals thousands or even millions of matching web pages. Therefore, it is difficult for the user to find your website if it is not listed between the top 10, maximum 20 search results.

The purpose of search engine optimisation is to make a website’s content highly relevant in order to get listed on top of search engine results for free. This can be a quite daunting task so let’s take a look at some key optimisation guidelines:

1.1 Selecting and Positioning Target Keywords

People search for stuff on the internet by typing certain words in the search box. Words that are relevant to your website are your target keywords. Your job is to make sure those target keywords appear on the crucial locations on your website such as across your title, meta tags, and body of your web page.

There is a good source of optimisation tips at http://www.dynamicwebsubmission.com/tips.html.

Tip: Your target keywords should include at least two words. This is simply because lots of websites are relevant for a single word, for example ขflowerข.

1.2 Relevant Website Content

Imagine search engine as a library and your website as a book. The library only wants good quality books to be included in its collection. The content of your web site is therefore the most important element for search engines to terminate if your web site will be listed and ranked well.

If your web site contains only images, flash, javascript etc, it will be ignored by the search engines because they can’t read those graphics. Please remember to provide valuable information not just ขgood lookingข image. Whenever possible, use HTML text on your web pages that will make your site more relevant.

1.3 Link Popularity – Google Page Rank

Every major search engine uses link popularity as a part of their ranking algorithms. Google’s algorithm Page Rank – is a quite complicated mathematical formula that determines a relevancy of web pages.

Very simply explained, it uses the structure of the links between web pages to assign a score of the page that reflects its importance. In effect, each link from one page to another is counted as a ขvoteข for the destination page, and each page’s score depends on the scores of the pages that link to it. But those pages’ scores, in turn, depend on the scores of the pages that link to them, and so on.

In conclusion, link popularity of a website is determined by:

The number of relevant web sites that are linking to your site

The popularity of those web sites

The higher the relevancy of the website the better is its listing in the Google results.

From what has been said, it is quite obvious that for brand new websites it may take about a month before they get listed and ranked well by Google. As mentioned earlier, paid listing can provide an excellent solution to cover this ขwaiting listข period. Google will set your website live within few hours and the impact on your site traffic is practically immediate.

2. Paid Search Advertising (PayPerClick, PPC)

This unique form of search engine advertising gives your website an excellent opportunity to achieve guaranteed top position on the search results. Paid listings are used not only for websites that are not indexed or waiting to be indexed. They are (or should be) widely used by marketers in the overall internet marketing mix when launching new products, targeting a specific market segment or enhancing sales of a product that has not been doing well lately.

The introductory to Paid Search Advertising Basics is explained in details at

http://www.apexpacific.com/newsletters/nl1004.html#2.

Since the launch of Google AdWords in February 2002, Google has clearly become the main provider of paid search advertising. Because Google is special in everything it does, let’s take a look at Google AdWords more closely.

2.1 How Google AdWords work

As mentioned earlier, Google’s sponsored listings appear on the top and on the righthand side of regular search results.

The basic concept of PPC bidding is that advertisers bid for particular search terms (= keywords). The highest bidder gets his/her advertisement displayed at the top of the sponsored listings next to Google’s search results. The second highest bidder gets the next sponsored listing and so on.

However, Google Adwords work differently than most of the other PayPerClick search engines such as Overture, FindWhat etc. Google does not simply put the highest bidder’s advertisement at the top of the list. It also ranks the advertisements according to their popularity. Therefore, if more people click on an advertisement it will get higher ranking and better position.

In conclusion, your adกs position is determined by following factors:

your daily budget

maximum costperclick

your adกs actual click through rate

and your average ad’s position.

From the above, you can not directly control your adกs actual click through rate and average position. Therefore managing your keywords on Google AdWords is a big challenge and usually consumes a great deal of time.

If you do not manage your keyword bids properly, you will waste your advertising money on Google Adwords. A good way to get around this is to use automated bid management software available on the market today. In general, those tools allow you to control your ads listing based on rules you specify.

When you shop around you will notice that there are very few tools that support Google AdWords. From those they do, there is one available for free trial at http://www.keywordbidmaximizer.com/bidmaximizer.

2.2 Payperclick copywriting tips on Google

The purpose of your advertising on Google is naturally to increase your sales. Since you are paying for each visitor landing on your website you obviously wish to convert them in paying customers. Please keep in mind that more important than number of impressions (=clicks) is the conversion rate. To drive your conversion rate to the maximum it is advised to prequalify the click with a well composed ad copy. Below are some tips to help you improve your ads:

• Specific and Relevant Keywords

Be specific and relevant to your business and offers. Avoid general keywords – they generate more ad impressions but tend to be less relevant. For example, rather than ขflowerข consider ขbirthday roses bouquetข. More targeted keywords attract more qualified buyers.

Also, your can increase your ad exposure – without sacrificing relevance – by adding alternate phrasings, spelling variations, plurals and singulars, and keywords similar or related to those on your master keyword list.

• Target geographical segments

Consider using geographic keywords to target a local or regional audience. If you sell roses in Tokio, replace ขrosesข with ขroses Tokioข. This way you will avoid any irrelevant pitches to search users in New York and Sydney. You can also target your campaign by country and by language to help focus your message on the audience you wish to serve.

• Target ad delivery with keyword matching options

Google offers different keyword matching options to refine your targeting:

Broad match displays your ad when all the words in your keyword appear in the search query. For example for the keywords ขbirthday cardsข your ad will be shown if users search for keywords ขbirthdayข and ขcardsข in any order, and even if the query includes other terms.

Phrase match displays your ad when all the words in your keyword appear in the same order, for example ขbirthday cardsข. Your ad will also be shown with other terms in the query like ขbirthday cards for girlsข but will not be shown if users search for ขcards for birthdayข.

Exact match displays your ad when all the words in your keyword appear in the same order, and without any other terms in the query.

Negative keywords – excludes searches for which your ad would be irrelevant. For example, if your keyword is ขbirthday cardsข and your negative keyword is ขgirlsข, your ad will not be shown if users search for ขbirthday cards for girlsข.

• Choose carefully landing pages

If users are interested in your offer they click on your ad. It is your job to send them to a relevant destination page to find out more about your product or service. When tailoring your ads to a specific audience, be sure that the destination page on your site fits the goal of the campaign.

3. Optimization Versus Paid Advertising

Paid search advertising offers companies an excellent solution to drive traffic to their websites almost immediately. From the short term approach, pay per click presents a smart way to cover a gap between campaign launch and achieving desired rankings results. The long term approach suggests pay per click as an alternative in situations when a website shows a poor performance in the search results in general. However, once you stop paying for the positions, the traffic stops.

Search engine optimization is a fundamental part of internet marketing mix. It requires constant updating and continuous attention of the website content for solid, longterm effective results.

Therefore, if you use paid search advertising and search engine optimisation together as an integrated strategy, you have an excellent chance to reach the greatest number of online users.

You Won’t Make Dollars If You Don’t use กAdกSense

You Won’t Make Dollars If You Don’t use กAdกSense

by: Adam Buhler

As the dust settles and the excitement caused by Googleกs AdSense gives way to the normal, everyday routines of old, itกs time to put some serious thought into how you can กmilk this cash cowก on your own web site.

For the past couple months AdSense has dominated forums, discussions, and newsletters all over the Internet. Iกve heard tales of fabulous riches to be made with AdSense, but up until now Iกve been admittedly skeptical of placing someone elseกs ads on my pages.

Why? In short, I didn’t like the idea of losing even a single visitor to another site.

The key to success with AdSense is to place your ads on pages that receive high traffic for high demand keywords. The higher the costperclick to the advertiser, the more you will receive per click from your site. It doesn’t pay to target low costperclick keywords and place them on pages that don’t receive hits.

Instinctively, my mind drifted to horrible images in which my homepage was buried in little ads promoting other peopleกs services. . .

Then I thought of whatกs proving to be an excellent idea on my first AdSense page. By placing my first AdSense link on a page that offers free ebooks related to marketing, I successfully blended a mix of two major factors for overall success.

Target high traffic pages on your site.

I checked my logs and discovered many of my visitors take advantage of the free affiliate marketing resources and ebooks offered on my site. Hmm…

If possible place AdSense links on pages that produce little or better yet, no profit.

By placing AdSense on a free resources page I have drastically reduced the amount of potential customers lost to other sites. Bingo!

End result? A high traffic page producing a minimal amount of revenue. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to pick up some extra cash with AdSense.

This is especially rewarding to informational sites that focus their efforts on delivering powerful affiliate link free content to their visitors. Now they can gain a return on their services.

By no means is AdSense a perfect program, but, Iกve yet to stumble across a program that didn’t have room for improvement in one category or another. My main gripe concerning AdSense is the inability to determine the profitability of a chosen keyword. competitive, high demand keywords will undoubtedly generate larger commissions, but the exact number is withheld by the big กGก.

Google promises to update AdSense frequently, tweaking and polishing in order to maintain their กsqueakycleanก image. Who knows, maybe some day weกll see AdSense add a 2nd tier? Can you imagine the smiles on the faces of webmasters around the world as they sign subaffiliates and double, triple, quadruple etc… the amount they earn from AdSense!

One particularly handy feature available with AdSense is the ability to filter out up to 200 urls. This gives you the option of กblockingก spammy low value offers from your pages as well as competitors to your site.

The possibilities are limitless, yet looming on the edge of my consciousness is the fear that one day someone will find a way to exploit this กgolden gooseก and force Google to crack down (much like the payperclick affiliate programs of old.). For now they enforce a strict antispamming policy, anyone found to be spamming their own links or abusing AdSense by other means will find their AdSense privileges terminated. My advice is quite simple…

Hop on the AdSense bandwagon while you can at: http://www.google.com/adsense

How To Find The Top Keywords Relating To Your Them

How To Find The Top Keywords Relating To Your Theme

by: Jeff Schuman

Have you ever wondered what people are searching for online? More specifically have you ever wondered what people are searching for as it relates to the theme of your website?

Letกs say you have a website built around the theme of music downloads. Here are 2 easy ways to get a list of keywords you can use to build your home page and then build more pages around each specific word.

1. Do a search by typing in music downloads here:

http://www.pixelfast.com/overture

As of November 2004 the keyword phraseก music downloads was searched 1,068,310 times. We can also see that กfree music downloadsก was searched 1,169,992 times.

As you look down the list you will find all kinds of combinations of keyword phrases with the words กmusic downloadsก included in them.

You can build specifc web pages centered around each keyword phrase. You will find that lesser searched keywords have less competition and therefore will be easier for you to make it to the top of a search engine and generate free traffic.

For example the keyword phrase ก free mp3 music downloadก was searched 22,360 times. This would be a great keyword phrase to target in comparison to the more generic phrase กmusic downloads.ก

2. Take a look at what people are willing to pay for a keyword here:

http://www.teamschuman.com/7searchkeywordtool

When typing in กmusic downloadก it brings up the keyword, number of searches, and the top 5 bids. It also brings up a complete list of possible keyword phrases and what people are paying for them. You can use this information to find affiliate products relating to each specific keyword phrase and then build additional web pages relating to each specific one. You can add these keywords to your home page and then join 7Search as an affiliate and add pay per click text to your pages.

Then get paid by 7Search when someone clicks on an ad relating to that keyword. I do this to generate hundreds and thousands of dollars each month. It is a great way to make some money on your site for generating traffic to it. Here are examples on 2 of my websites. You will see the text ads for the Top 10 websites at the top of each page.

http://www.teamschuman.com

http://www.sitesplus.com

If you are looking for top keywords being searched in a broad range of categories then subscribe to the กKeyword Reportก here:

http://www.teamschuman.com/wordtracker

Click on the link for Keyword Report and you will receive the top 500 keywords people are searching for delivered to you by email every week. Then use the Overture and 7Search keyword tools to find more specific keywords you can build websites and web pages around. This is a great strategy and a great way to get started making money with your own theme website and web pages around that theme.

Remember this simple point. People go to the internet to find information. They will type in all kinds of keyword phrases and variations of those keywords. The more web pages you can build targeting those specific keywords the better off you will be when it comes to increasing your website traffic and making more money online.

What Do You Wish For.

What Do You Wish For.

by: Cheryl White

What do you really wish for ? My wish is to retire from work at the age of thirty and work at home on the internet.

Two years to go, and I believe it is a possible and hopefully will come true. Tired and weary I come home from work, get the chores done and settle down to work on the PC.

From a complete newbie six months ago I am learning fast and my first site is on page 25 of google. OK! I know you need to be in the first three pages of the search to do any good, but I am getting there slowly.

Linking is the biggest chore, but every one knows that to be successful, links are one of the magic words.

Keywords are another and they do require some research, Its no use adding any old words. Is your site a business website or perhaps health, or cookery etc.? Do your home work and search for those elusive keywords that will help your site, make sure your meta keywords only contain the keywords that you have placed on your website.

(New content) Your website is never complete, don’t let it stagnate with just four or five pages and then expect it to get to no1. This won’t happen unless you are a very lucky person.

Ad new content and pages, build your website over time, ad items of interest. No they won’t make you any money but they will keep your visitors on your site for longer, and who knows they might spy that program or ad and decide to go for it making all your work worthwhile.

Although you have a business website do not fill it with loads and loads of job opportunities or ads, give your callers something different, they will find your site more interesting and call back at intervals to see whats new.

Be prepared to read and visit forums for information, if you are not sure about something there are loads of tutorial sites on the web. You can learn about anything and every thing it is a mine of information as you probably know already.

3 Deadly Search Engine Marketing Sins

3 Deadly Search Engine Marketing Sins

by: John Gergye

My inbox this week provided glaring examples of three all too common rookie search engine marketing mistakes. What you could call three deadly search engine marketing sins. Starting with

===> Inadequate Keyword Research

Hey! If you’re going to spend hours developing a web site, isn’t it smart to invest some time to insure you’re focusing on the most traffic laden keywords?

Especially when typically the plural form of a keyword phrase generates way more traffic than the singular form. For example กdog dishesก rather than กdog dishก.

Yet just this week I was asked to look at a site that had focused on the singular form. Evidently the owner hadn’t bothered to do any digging to make sure that was their best keyword move.

Look, you’ll never know for sure unless you research it. Besides, you can access Wordtracker, the tool of choice for what? a measly $7 a day.

Even better here’s a quick and dirty way to get the most out of that day.

Search for your target keyword in Google.

Visit the top ranking sites. Use the กView Sourceก feature of Internet Explorer to check out the keyword meta tag of each site. You’re looking for a site listing lots of keywords there. Do this with each of the top listings or until you find one stuffed to the gills with keywords. Ahha! There’s your starting point for your list of likely keyword phrases.

Repeat with a couple of other sites and you’ll soon have a long list of candidates to check out in Wordtracker.

Enhance your list further using this tool:

http://www.promoteindia.com/keywordtoolbeta.htm.

It will give you more keyword ideas from Google and Overture.

Now you’re ready for Wordtracker.

Once you’ve compiled your Wordtracker results, you could simply sort by KEI and then by searches per day.

That gives you the strongest keywords with the most searches. (And yes, I realize KEI assumes all search engine listings are of equal value. But I did say this was กquick and dirtyก didn’t I? However if you want another approach that improves on KEI there’s a spreadsheet available at http://www.seoworks.com/seoresources/keywordeffectivenessrank.html)

Anyway, once you’re sorted your keywords in some way to highlight the most profitable, simply take the top 25 on the list and create content for those first. No, not every one will be a natural born traffic magnet. But enough of them will be to get the ball rolling.

Repeat with the next 25. Don’t stop until you have at least 100 pages of hot content.

Remember, two or three word keyword phrases are usually your best bets. And I really like keyword phrases that are actually several keyword phrases in one. For example กirish setter dog dishesก gives กirish setterก, กirish setter dogก, กdogก, กdog dishesก, กsetter dog dishesก.

===> Site Bloat

Twice this week I was asked to look at sites that would have let me read War and Peace while waiting for them to come up. And no visitor is going to have a copy of that handy.

To avoid losing any precious visitors lose the huge graphics. One of the sites had a graphic 501K in size! No wonder it took nearly two minutes to load up on a 56K modem.

Then too lose the Flash unless you have a very good reason for using it. Even then lose the Flash.

If you’re wondering how your siteกs download time measures up test it here: http://www.netmechanic.com/toolbox/htmlcode.htm

It won’t cost anything to find out. But a slow loading site can cost you plenty. Because as the Net Mechanics follow up reports says, itกs a good idea to keep your page load times under about 12 seconds on a 28.8 modem. Otherwise your visitors will be wearing out the back button trying to escape.

===> Too Few Links

Did you know links can account for up to 80% of your success with Google? Yet someone else complained to me about how much work it took to get them.

Well doh! Ever think that maybe that’s why (in part) Google assigns so much value to links? Because you can’t quite as easily game links as you can on page content? Meaning you actually have to work to get links. Both by having link worthy content and by actively seeking them out on a regular basis.

It’s a given that most niches require you have a healthy collection of links to be competitive. Yet if you’re lucky enough to be in a niche that doesn’t, but you do, then you can easily dominate those rankings.

Anyway in a nutshell you can easily avoid these three search engine sins. Do your keyword homework. Keep your pages on a strict diet. And don’t forget link up with as many other quality sites as you can.

Do all that and you’re well on your way to search engine success. Ignore this advice and you’re, well you know, your Google goose is probably cooked. Leaving you perpetually stuck in Google purgatory.
