A Basic Introduction to Blogging

A Basic Introduction to Blogging

by: Mal Keenan

Web logging first appeared on the net in the mid1990s. The term ขweb logข was initially coined refer to a server’s log file and then expanded to include the meaning of online personal journaling. Later on, to avoid confusion, the word ขblogข was adopted to refer to personal journaling. Today a blog is defined as an online publication where an author puts his or her personal thoughts and opinions from the most intimate to corporate ideas, concerns or events, in chronological order on the net.

Although, there are as many kinds of blogs on line as there are people, most of these will roughly fall into these kind of bloggers: Personal Bloggers (the original use of blogging), then there are the organizational and business Bloggers.

Organizational blogs are meant to facilitate communications between its internal and external audiences. It may also provide information for the external publics’ use.

Business blogs promote products or services for profit. They also increase awareness about the company, as well as establish itself as an authority with customers, vendors, through publications that demonstrate their expertise in the market.

What are the kinds of contents that readers can find in a blog that’s for distribution? The authors’ ideas, opinions, expertise in his/her field of work, resumes, and home recipes, pictures, streaming audio or video clips, ebooks, poetry, works, products, services and consultations.

Why have blogs become very popular compared to websites or email? Most websites are infrequently updated, while blogs have instant publishing tools which permit the author to regularly update & introduce new content. Although both have great content, websites are usually impersonal in informing their audience. While blogs allow the readers to leave their comments and feedback, to hold twoconversations with the author, who usually does the publishing and can immediately respond to his/her readers.

The blogs’ abilities to reach and immediately react to an expanding mass of audience have made businesses and marketers use these as a strategic marketing tool. Additionally blogs are very efficient, cheap to use and can quickly distribute information.

However, before you decide to jump on the blogging bandwagon, take time to find out what are your objectives for creating your own blog. Is it a personal, organizational or business blog? This will help you decide on what your blog will contain, where you’d place it and what publishing tools you’ll be using.

All Work At Home and No Play Make Jack a Dull Boy

All Work At Home and No Play Make Jack a Dull Boy

by: Mal Keenan

Weกve all done it!

We sit for hours in front of our PCs searching, submitting and scrutinizing, while the very freedom we are building a home business to achieve, dwindles to stolen moments in between search engine submissions.

I can be almost certain that from the very moment you got your first check in the mail that you became hooked on the idea of working entirely from home. So much so that everything else in your life has had to take a back seat while you build your dream.

Having a dream and pursuing it is a very noble concept but when our home and family life suffers because of it then it can become a big problem.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Here are a number of points that may help you in keeping a balance.

1.Discipline yourself When it comes to the amount of time you spend building and running your online enterprise. Set a time limit and don’t stray over it.

2.Don’t drop or cut down on family activities because of your business. For instance don’t stop taking your kids swimming because you want to learn how to build a website.

3.Help in the house chores when they need to be done. The last thing you want to do is alienate your husband/wife when they are probably already very sceptical of your new found enthusiasm in all things cyber.

4.Get the family involved where possible. Show them what exactly it is you are doing and explain to them that your ultimate goal is to earn enough money working at home to be able to spend more time with them.

5.Don’t forget to splash out on the family when you eventually start to earn some cash from your online ventures. My wife soon became a believer when she saw some extra money on the table. Well who wouldn’t:)?

In closing Iกm hopeful you have gotten the gist of this article, get your priorities right and ensure that everyone is as happy and enthusiastic in your striving for financial freedom as you are.

I wish you every success in your business dealings.

Home Business Reality Is A Hard Pill To Swallow

Home Business Reality Is A Hard Pill To Swallow

by: Mal Keenan

Over the years I have been online one of the most common emails I get from downline members and prospects in general goes something like this:

กHi Mal

Whatกs happening? I have been working my ass off this past week and a half and things just aint happening. Iกve bought some leads and sent out two articles but not one sale. Iกll give this a go for another week or two and if I don’t see results Iกll have to move on.ก

Have you received any like this? Maybe youกve written one similar in your early days;)?

It saddens me that people come into a business opportunity with the idea that they are going to attain instant profits….not only because of the explaining I have to do to prospects, but because I know the frustration they are going to inflict upon themselves unless they change the mindset with which they have entered this business.

The most I, or anyone like me can do for those of you who ARE finding it difficult to find success is show you a bit of direction and share our own experiences.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES….and in my experience NO SECRETS.

This may be a hard pill to swallow but it is the truth.

My expereince of running an online business from home is that it takes time and hard work and YES a lot of frustration, upsets and setbacks along the way. If you surmount the obstcales along the way you will have proven yourself ready to attain success and you WILL get a breakthrough.

It is vitally important that you formulate a plan and budget your money accordingly. You must be prepared to go for at least a few months without making a profit. If you do get into profit with a month or two then this will be a bonus, but be prepared for the long haul.

Another big gripe I hear is that people are spending a fortune on product after product and leaving themselves penniless. This is another main reason for their ultimate failure. Why would you do this to yourself? You MUST discipline yourself, set a monthly or weekly budget and DO NOT go over it.

If you enter the online business arena keeping in mind the points outlined above, I promise that you will have a realistic chance of succeeding. I and others are certainly on hand to answer your questions and affording you the support to facilitate YOUR success.

Are You Running Your Online Business On Half Empty

Are You Running Your Online Business On Half Empty?

by: Mal Keenan

The idea of paying $1000 for a marketing package to MOST people would be a nonsense.

After all, think of all the other wonderful things you could buy with $1000.

If I was merely spending $1000 then I would find it difficult myself but that it is not the way I think and it DEFINITELY makes all the difference. When I am buying anything online I always weigh up the odds. The question I ask myself is this: Will I be able to profit from this service, strategy or marketing product within a reasonable amount of time?

I have always thought like this, even from my beginnings online……. I would buy into a product or service, join their affiliate program and then put everything into promoting this product/service until the service became free to me and eventually made me a profit.

This my friend is part of the mindset that seperates winners from losers…….

Winnersก predominant thought is How much will I make?

Losersก predominant thought IS How much will it cost me?

Itกs back to the half full, half empty analogy.

Nothing wrong with showing some caution of course and being prudent but if you find yourself always coming up with excuses for not taking measured risks then maybe you are not cut out for running an online business.

Some would be aghast if they looked at the bills I have built up over the years but they don’t see the experience I have gained nor the profits I have made from the very same outgoings. I have profited from at least 90% of the tools I have used.

I make it a point of joining the affiliate program of a purchased product and making a profit. Itกs like I hate the idea of paying for anything, so I don’t…..or at least I don’t remain in the red for long.

Also, when buying a product or service, make sure that you are going to use it.

Now that may seem a daft thing to advise but you would be surprised at the nujmber of marketers who buy buy buy and have shelves and desktops full of all sorts of tools and resources that have never been looked at. When asked how such and suchกs course worked for them, they unsurprisingly respond that it wasn’t worth the money.

You MUST put the tactics and strategies recommended into practice, even if it is a little bit at a time. Sometimes you just need to make a start.

Most marketing services out there are well worth the cost if put to use.

People DO NOT Buy From Websites……

People DO NOT Buy From Websites……

by: Mal Keenan

Of course the title of this article IS NOT complete as $1,000,000s in sales are made every day by online entrepreneurs. What it should have read to be more accurate was กPeople DO NOT buy from websites….they buy from other peopleก.

It is a common misconception that you can set up a sales page online and that the rest will fall into place. The sales will roll in and if you create the perfect website and send some targeted visitors consistently then you will be rich. This idea was very far from the whole truth.

Of course if you do create a top selling website and send the right type of visitors you will make sales but to be a REAL success you need to do a lot more than that. Or should I say BE a lot more than that.

Selling is more about selling yourself than it is about selling a product.

I struggled online for years and was completely unaware of the reasons why I had not become a resounding success. This was especially true in my network marketing ventures. I would add 100s of new members yet would watch as my organisation crumbled, or more often than not, never even get off the ground.

The problem was that to the people in my downlines I was a name and a number, they didn’t know anything about ME and until this was the case, nothing happened. I made very few sales and even less members of my team joined in the recruiting efforts.

It wasn’t until I started to make myself known online that sales really started to take off. My online revenue continues to grow as I continue to do this.

A few things come to mind that can help build trust with your downline and online prospects in general:

1.Post a picture of yourself on your website.

2.Use your full name on your website.

3.When posting in online forums use your full name as your nickname rather than an obscure username.

4.Send regular emails to your downline and get personal, tell them a little bit about yourself. No need to go into details about your last counselling session. Be general.:)

5. Answer ALL emails from your team and visitors to your site, even the ones that you know won’t result in a sale. It lets them know you are a REAL person and may result in future sales.

6. Consider building a team website or forum to further your web presence and brand your name.

These are just a few of the tactics you can use to ensure that those who do visit or join your team will find it a lot more comfortable in buying from you and getting involved in the business. Iกm sure there are many more. Can you think of any?

If you aren’t already building trust with your prospects then you ARE losing out in a big per centage of sales. The sale per visitor ratio on my sites has risen dramatically since I employed the above strategies and Iกm sure they will do with yours also.

Try them immediately and find out.

I wish you continued success.

Why All Your Marketing Efforts Have Come To Nothin

Why All Your Marketing Efforts Have Come To Nothing

by: Mal Keenan

How often have you responded to email from those in your downlines asking for advice on how best to run their online businesses and finding it increasingly frustrating that things JUST aren’t working out as planned?

I myself see the same problems day and daily and it always point back to the same core issues. Let me explain one of them…

The very ethos of network marketing is based on sharing the products and services that you have found helpful in your journey towards success. The fact that you get paid for this is definitely a BIG bonus but networking can be found in everyday examples where people aren’t being paid. For instance when people see a great movie, they tell others who in turn pass it on to create a blockbuster hit.

Word of mouth definitely is the best form of advertising and networking. The main point in the above example is that folks are being honest about their observations and this is picked up on by their fellows and so and and so forth down the line.

The problem with many network marketers is that they ARE NOT being honest in their dealings with online prospects. Their emails or telephone conversations are promoting something that they don’t really believe in and this belief is being transferred to the people they are trying to recruit.

You cannot sell something that you don’t absolutely believe in yourself, or at least you will find it extremely difficult to do so and all your efforts will result in ultimate failure.

The words coming from our mouths are actually a very small percentage of what is actually being communicated and even the tone of our email ads can scream กScamก at prospects without us even knowing it.

This has been a fact in all my online dealings and yet it is something that is not easy to explain to newcomers who come online and believe that it is only a matter of กclick sendก and a ready acceptance of multiple checks in the mail.

Obviously the way around this problem is to promote those products and services that you actually DO believe in. From I have come online I have to say that the companies out there that inspire confidence have been by far in the minority.

Many companies will take your money and run and when you are the type that hands out money hand over fist with no money management skills, it is a welcome surprise to find a company that will actually teach you such skills and allow you to earn as you do.

I myself am a member of such a team and it is a perfect example of something that I truely CAN believe in, and this belief like mentioned above, is exuded to those I come in contact with through email promotions and online ads.

In conclusion, if you are choosing to promote products or services online ensure that they are something that you can honestly pass on to prospective affiliates and feel good in doing so. Your success ulimately depends upon it.

Get Serious About Your Web Business

Get Serious About Your Web Business

by: Mal Keenan

So much has been said about this subject in the past but I feel I must reiterate the importance of getting your own domain name if you are to be taken seriously in the home business world.

There is nothing more offputting than seeing an ad with a free domain name attached (ie http://www.freedomain.yourname.com). I personally will bypass such businesses.

The fact of the matter is that a business person who is not prepared to pay a sum, of at most $35 per year, to register a domain name just doesn’t deserve to be taken seriously. You can of course find sites that will register your domain name for as little as $10 per year. You can then get your website hosted for a few dollars per month.

Registering your domain name builds credibility and creates an identity for your business.

When choosing a domain name it is better to use a term that is going to stick in the mind of prospective buyers, something that your visitors will remember you by. For example กBetterbuymarketing.comก would be an example of a relatively short and catchy domain. Unfortunately a greater % of two word domain names have been taken up by the 100,000s of online businesses but if you persist you can get something suitable.

It doesn’t have to be a .com name although this is preferable. I personally host two of my sites using the .info and .biz domains. See below:

It is also a great idea to use keywords relating to the type of business you run. You can see from my own two businesses above that this has been my strategy. This can significantly enhance search engine ranking for these keywords and I now rank in the top pages of Google/Yahoo for both these sites with the terms กwork from homeก and กwork at home business informationก.

Another important aspect of owning your own domain is when it comes to email marketing. Who are you more likely to buy from, [email protected] or [email protected]? Selling online is all about building trust between you and your customers and registering your domain can go a long way towards building this bond between you and your website visitors.

Whether you use the above strategies or not, it is extremely important that you take that first step now and register your own domain name. At the very least the name will become your property and, depending on the amount of work you put into building your web presence, may become very valuable one day.

Good luck and I wish you every success with your business.

Promoting Your Business Using Blogs

Promoting Your Business Using Blogs

by: Mal Keenan

Internet marketing using blogs has quickly gained a lot of popularity as a wonderful way to promote your business.

There are many ways that blogging can help in the promotion of your business. Since blogs are usually full of links and contain a large amount of keywords it will give your site a much better chance of being picked up by a search engine allowing more exposure for your business.

Taking a course on search engine optimization with help you determine the best keywords for your blog.

You can establish yourself to be very knowledgeable about the items your business carries and be influential in the decision making process of your customers. This will give you credibility in your field and generate leads for your business.

You can use your blog as a method of introducing the people behind your business to your customers giving your business a more personalized feel which will give you an edge on larger corporations. Also make sure that whomever you have creating the entries in your blog has suitable writing skills because by keeping the entries short and easy to read you will find it will bring your customers visiting often to see what is going on with your company.

Blogs can be used to run daily or weekly contests which is another great way to keep you customers coming back to your site. You can also highlight new business promotions with your blog. Blogs can be used to test out new projects or to get feedback on new products. If your blog contains a feedback feature you can judge the feedback a new product might receive before it goes live on your web site. Customers and potential customers will love to be able to give you input on the products or services of your business.

Photos are an excellent internet marketing tool to use on blogs. Having a picture and a short blurb describing the product can be a lot more effective then simply writing a descriptive paragraph highlighting the item. You can set up a frequently asked questions section to your blog and by leaving out a lot of the terms that public relations people use in their writing for large corporations you will be making your business a lot more personable which is what a lot of people prefer these days. You could add new questions you your site as you receive them if you believe they would be of help to your customers.

I personally have been making regular contributions to my blog over the last number of weeks. I am one of those slow learners who FINALLY caught on that these things do actually help increase traffic to my main sites and affiliate programs. I have been seeing excellent results and Iกve only just started. You can view my blog here:

The possibilities of internet marketing with a blog are endless and with the current popularity of blogging you would be making an excellent choice of creating one to aide you in the promotion of your business.
