7 Explosive Strategies to Maximize Your Google AdW

7 Explosive Strategies to Maximize Your Google AdWords Campaigns

by: Fabian Lim

If you ever used Google AdWords to advertise your product or service online, you’d have experienced the sheer power of this online advertising medium.

In fact, more and more online marketers, both large organizations and ‘oneman’ companies alike, use Google AdWords for a variety of purposes, including but not limited to:

Increase website exposure

Sell existing products and services

Launch new products and services

Drive traffic to website to capture email leads and build prospect list

Test various marketing strategies e.g. web copy effectiveness, product and services pricing etc.

Research primary and secondary keywords for Search Engine Optimization strategy

Research consumer and business wants and needs

Market and sell own &/or affiliate products

And much much more…

However, as with any payperclick service, a poorly designed Google AdWords campaign will NOT bring you the results your desire.

Worst still, a poorly implemented Google AdWords campaign can even ‘break your wallet’!

So, how does one develop an effective Google AdWords campaign?

Here are 7 useful strategies you can use to maximize your Google AdWords campaign:

Strategy #1 Identify a large number (preferably 300 above) of lowcost but highly targeted keywords/keyword phrases

It is important to understand that Google AdWords is a payperclick system and you only pay when a prospect clicks on your AdWords ad regardless of the number of impressions.

And you can use this knowledge to your advantage by developing a huge keyword list for each campaign.

Here are some tools you can use to generate keywords and key phrases:

Google AdWords Keyword Suggestions tool:

Good Keywords:

7Search.com’s Keyword Suggestion Tool:

WordTracker:

Misspelled Keywords:

Strategy #2 Develop various ad headlines and descriptions and splittest them to identify the most effective ad

Actually, Google AdWords does this for you automatically i.e. it displays the ad that receives a higher clickthrough more frequently.

Here’s a quick and dirty way to develop a killer ad headline and description – model other Google AdWords ads!

Notice I said ‘model’ and NOT ‘copy’.

All you need to do is type in relevant keywords in the Google search box and review the AdWords ads that show up.

Ask yourself which AdWords ad attracts your attention and note down how the headline and description are written.

Here’s a Copywriting 101 Tip – Your headline and description should mention the BIGGEST benefit of your product or service.

Strategy #3 Use the ‘Keyword Matching’ option to better target your ads

Unlike conventional payperclick models, AdWords ads are ranked based the following formula:

CostPerClick (CPC) X ClickThrough Rate (CTR)

Keyword matching helps you achieve a higher ClickThroughRate (CTR) for your ads and therefore, a higher ad ranking without increasing the CostPerClick (CPC) of your campaign.

For example, a phrase match keyword like ขpopup generatorข will show up for the search query ขbest popup generatorข but will not display for the search query ขpopup a generatorข so using the ‘Phrase Match’ option will minimize ‘untargeted’ impressions and result in ClickThroughRate (CTR) improvements.

Strategy #4 Limit the ad impressions to certain countries and/or regions once youกve received customer data from the initial sales generated

For example, if most of your customers are from the USA, you may wish to focus your advertising revenue on the US market and target your ads to only US customers. This strategy will also help you to achieve a higher ClickThroughRate (CTR) for your ads.

Strategy #5 Add a subscriber signup box on ALL the websites you’re promoting.

This will allow you to build your subscriber list at the same time! Place your subscriber signup box at the top left or right side of your webpage to increase subscriber signup rate.

Strategy #6 Add a DHTML (Dynamic Hyper Text Markup Language) popup on your websites

Hereกs a 5STAR SECRET Google doesn’t want you to know: You CAN use popups on your landing page (i.e. the page a prospect sees when he/she clicks on your AdWords ad) as long as the popup does not result in the OPENING OF A NEW WINDOW!

A DHTML popup is technically not a popup it is really a กfloating menuก, made to look and act like a popup!

You can find out more about กPopupMaster Proก, a กnewgenerationก popup software (that also beats popup blockers) here:

http://PopupMaster.net

Installing a DHTML popup on your websites WILL dramatically increase your sales and subscriber signups!

Strategy #7 Monitor and manage your campaigns

Youกll be able to access valuable information and find out which keywords have the highest impressions, which keywords generate the highest clickthroughs etc. once your campaign is live.

And you should use this information to tweak your headline, description and costperclick accordingly to maximize your campaign effectiveness.

Use the various strategies described above and monitor the effectiveness of each of them. It will help you maximize your Google AdWords campaigns and reduce your campaign costs.

Step Aside PopUps, Hover Ads Are Here!

Step Aside PopUps, Hover Ads Are Here!

by: Tanner Larsson

As anyone involved in online marketing has learned in recent times, PopUp ads have developed a very negative connotation amongst Internet users the world over. Indeed, there has been an explosion in the availability of software and tools that are designed to block PopUp advertising.

An estimated 405 million internet users have free access to some form of popup blocking technology. If you are an internet marketer this is bad news, as popup had been an effective way of increasing sales and capturing email addresses for newsletters. Now over 405 million users that cannot see their advertisements and not only that, but the people who use popup blocking technology are typically ‘savvy internet users’ are the kinds of people most likely to spend money online.

Hover ads are so different, so appealing that the typical Internet user is going to read the ad content rather than make a reflexive decision to the click the advertisement away.

Boost Your Sales with Hover Ads

Effective or Irritating: The Use of Pop Windows in

Effective or Irritating: The Use of Pop Windows in Internet Marketing

by: Nial Robbins

A few years ago, popup windows were all the rage in Internet marketing. It seemed that every time one opened a web page they would be bombarded with offers for this or that. It had gotten to the point where surfing the Internet was almost like playing a video game; when the ads would popup one would try and close them out before another one came. This is precisely why we have seen the decline in the use of popup windows on the Internet today; surfers simply do not even look at the popups anymore. They close the windows out before even reading the ad. Very often, a surfer will even leave your site if there are too many popup ads. They simply do not want the hassle of closing those windows while trying to obtain the information that your site has to offer. This information, while valuable, is not as valuable as the surfers time. Studies have shown however, that even with these set backs, popup windows are still an effective method of Internet marketing.

Is there some way that popup windows can be less irritating and still be effective? Yes! What if the pop ad were seen upon exiting your site instead of entering? This would allow the surfer to obtain the information that they need from your site, feeling that they were able to come and go quickly without being hassled by other ads and offers all the while making the surfer happy. You have left the surfer with a positive attitude and therefore are more likely to respond to the pop advertisement. This is being accomplished more and more by using what is being called popunder windows. When the surfer comes to your site, the ad is opened discretely behind the your web page. Then, upon leaving your site, after obtaining all the information that they need , will see the ad and therefore be more likely to respond. Since the surfer has the information, he has achieved his objective and is now open to do other things; ideally respond to the pop under advertisement.

Not all popwindows are created equally. There are some things that you can do to make your popwindows, whether popup or popunder more effective. The popwindow should be easy to ขescapeข from. If the surfer does not want to see the add, but has a hard time closing it out, they will likely become frustrated and could leave your site all together. You should either use a button to that will allow the surfer to close the window or be sure that the ขxข is easily visible. Another good idea is to use a script that utilizes cookies. Cookie will prevent popwindows from overloading the surfer since you can decide the frequency of the popwindows, rather than each time a page is opened. Also be sure that there is no more than one popwindow per page.

When creating a popwindow, you will be asked to fill out a short information form, select the length of cookies, and choose the layout of the popwindow. When choosing the design of the popwindow, you can increase the effectiveness by creating a large headline that includes benefits that will be most appealing to the customer. You should also consider using incentives and lastly do not ask the customer to read a long and drawn out advertisement. Keep the message simple yet powerful and your popads will be sure to generate profits for your site.

How To Use PopUpกs Effectively To Generate More P

How To Use PopUpกs Effectively To Generate More Profits!

by: Cory Threlfall

What Iกm about to explain to you will change to way you do your online marketing Today, Tomorrow and Years to come with little effort on your part.

This simple But effective technique involves the use of a กPopUpก on your website, but, the difference between this technique and just a standard กPopUpก or กExit PopUpก as we all see them is that when your potential prospects see them they are more then willing to give you there Name and Email address.

Why you ask?

Because your offering them something of Value for FREE.

As you well know the word กFreeก is one of the most Powerful words on the internet when used correctly and when combined with an กPopUpก… it could make you alot of extra money with little effort.

As a marketer myself, a simple Name and Email Address is worth hundreds, if not thousands of extra dollars a year if I collect and followup my leads properly, but, the questions that always seem to arise are…

…How do I do it? …What steps do I need to take?

So… now that I have your attention, let me explain to you how this can be achieved in a simple กStepByStepก fashion.

Step 1:

What do you have that you can give away to your visitors as they leave your website that is of value to your visitor and more importantly, will benefit from?(Hereกs a hint… Free Reports, eBooks, eCourses, etc.)

(Note: Give away brandable ebooks, reports, etc. with your affiliate links embedded within them. Make sure they’re related to the subject of the content.)

Step 2:

Once youกve figured out what your going to give away, put together some ad copy for your กPopUpก that your going to build that will grab your visitors attention and get them to signup for your กFree Offerก or กGive Awayก as they leave your website.

(Note: You don’t have write alot, just a few attention grabbing sentences pointing out the กBenefitsก of your offer.)

Step 3:

Write a short Solo. You need this because after they signup through your webform from your popup, this is what they will receive in there Inbox with either download info or other instructions that you specify in order for them to receive there Report, eBook, eCourse, etc.

(Note: Also, make sure you attach a กSignature Fileก at the end of your Solo. Many marketerกs forget this part and are losing out on alot of extra profits. Don’t Forget!)

Step 4:

You need to go to your กAutoresponderก management console and setup an seperate autoresponder with the solo you wrote for your กFree Offerก and/or กGive Awayก.

Once youกve set your autoresponder its now time for you to copy the HTML code for your autoresponderกs WebForm and paste it into the กPopUpก you just put together.

(Note: Autoresponder services may very. Simply follow there directions.)

Step 5:

This is the easy part, once you have completed all of the other steps, simply paste your กPopUpก code into your desired webpage(s).

If you use popup software that creates and automatically inserts the code for you simply select the webpage you want the code to be placed on and the software will do the rest.

Now simply upload your newly formatted webpage and popup to your host and start sending it Traffic!

As a general rule, test out your popup for your first week a see how it pulling. You may need to tweek it if its not performing to your stardards. All it takes is just a few words to be changed to make your popup a success.

Thatกs it… your Done!

These are the 5 basic steps needed to turn your website into an fully กAutomated Sales Machineก that will automatically followup your leads 24/7/365 without you lifting a finger.

It may take a little time to setup initially, but itกll be worth it in the long run.

Now, I just have one last tip for you.

If you really want to get the most out of your PopUp and the leads it brings in simply loadup your already setup กAutoResponderก with 6 or 7(or however many you want) followup emails and set them to go out every 3 to 4 weeks.

For maximum results make sure that you target the particular Product or Service you are offering or promoting because it makes no sense to offer a Product or Service that doesn’t relate to what your initial offer was that they signed up for.

What Are Hover Ads?

What Are Hover Ads?

by: Tanner Larsson

Hover ads have been touted as the replacement and successor of those irritating and annoying pop up ads and it seems that the world have mixed feelings about this new advertising method. According to a popular Internet Marketing Dictionary, Hover advertising is a new method of displaying a message in a webpage. With the painful death of pop up ads, along comes the next generation of Internet advertising, the Hover ads.

What is a hover ad and what do they do?

The great big news is this – pop up killers that has been on a killing rampage since middle of 2004 or earlier cannot kill hover ads. You see, a pop up ad is a new web page that pops up whenever any page with popup codes embedded in them. Compare this to a hover ad. The hover ad is a kind of ad that hovers within the HTML page itself, so, the popup killer applications can’t get to them unless they kill the whole webpage….which isn’t exactly what the advertisers and media is looking for.

Pop up ads mainly use Javascript to load new popup windows while hover ads use DHTML (something like HTML – DHTML stands for Dynamic HTML).

Have you ever seen ads that sort of like floats around in a webpage and it won’t go away until you click on the little ‘x’ at the side of the advertisement to close the window? Those are hover ads. They just….well, hover within the webpage.

How does the hover ad work and why does it work?

Generally speaking, with hover ad codes embedded into a webpage, it does slow down the downloading of the page a little but let’s take www.auctionessentials.com as an example. Even if the downloading of the webpage is slowed down a little, an interested reader won’t mind the unobtrusive ad. Imaginative and creative minds have even put a new twist to hover ads. They can make the hover ads a little transparent too, so, even if the hover ad is on top of a portion of the page (or text), they won’t miss a thing because the ad is sort of transparent. Brilliant, won’t you agree?

How effective are hover ads in bringing traffic?

Not surprisingly, since hover ads are less irritating than popup ads, hover ads are more effective for branding, newsletter signups, announcements, advertising, and promotional campaigns. Because hover ads are not like flash ads that run away every time you try to close the ad, they are more ‘tolerable’ making exposure rates higher and more effective.

As one user and advertiser said, ขIf commercials on TV irritate you, does it make you stop watching TV altogether?ข The answer is a resounding NO. Internet marketers are flocking to this new technology and using hover ads as a way of getting their most important messages in front of their website visitors without annoying or irritating them.

PopUp Blockers: Before You Decide To Fight Ads Yo

PopUp Blockers: Before You Decide To Fight Ads You Better Know What You’re Up Against!

by: Michael Abridello

A ‘popup blocker’, also known as ‘popup killer’, is a program that prevents popups from being displayed in a userกs web browser. Popup blockers work in a number of ways. While some close the window before it appears, others disable the command that calls the popup, and yet others alter the windowกs source HTML. One problem with popup blockers is that they cannot always differentiate between an unwanted popup window and one that is userrequested. But that is just a minor problem. Before you decide whether you want to fight the adblocking battle, you really need to know the threats that you are dealing with.

Let’s just start from the beginning: Popups are those annoying windows that get in the way of us viewing the web sites that we want to view. Sometimes they even have things on them that are offensive. Most of us get mad when faced with undesired popups but, in fact, few of us do something about it. The most reasonable explanation for this is that even people who detest web ads concede that the explosion in web advertising has financed a nocost Internet rich in content. However, if every Internet user blocked all advertisements all the time, companies might have to charge user fees for their web services or else they would go out of business.

Albeit most web surfers would, to some extent, agree on the need of advertisement as a financial resource for Internetbased companies that fundamentally operate as content providers, the new online advertising methods and techniques that some advertisers have been using appear to cross the line between what is reasonable and what is not; in other words, what can be considered a ‘fair amount of advertising’ and what is just an ‘unethical use of advertising as a means to invade people’s eyeballs, minds and lives’. The trick here is that online advertising evolves faster than one could possibly imagine. You would be very naïve if you thought that the latest generation of online ads just sits timidly on a web page carrying an identifying label that says ‘Advertising. Click on me’. Instead, the bulk of adware stealthily masquerade ads as noncommercial content or bombard our eyeballs with pyrotechnic excess. Although it is literally impossible to describe all the different types and formats of existing online advertising, let us walk you through the most common ones that have so far been identified.

First there are Standard Banner Ads, including new formats such as the vertically oriented skyscraper. These stay inside the primary browser window. Second, there are the popup and popunder ads. As opposed to standard banner ads, these appear in new browser windows, typically stripped of toolbars and menus, and either cover your original browser window or hide beneath it. Third, there are Interstitials, which are ads that appear after you click on a link but before you see the next page, and Popup Transitionals, a type of ad that plays in a separate window between two pages of content. Fourth, there are Superstitials, a highly evolved ad species which move across the face of a web page, as if they were animations projected on a piece of glass over the page. Worst of all are the MouseTrappers and HighSpeed Spawners, so called because they break your browserกs Back button and/or disable the Close box and often also have the ability to replicate windows faster than you can get rid of them.

Most legitimate web sites try to avoid using misleading ads to get clicks but some allow the trick banner, that is, an ad that mimics a dialog box. When you click its OK button to dismiss a system message, you are automatically drawn into a spiral of other web ads: a total nightmare! Then thereกs also adware like TopText, which skulks onto your system when you install certain shareware or freeware programs and then spawns its own popups to compete with those launched by the sites you visit.

Since a future free of annoying pop up ads does not appear to be a very feasible possibility, if you want to put an end to the madness on your desktop you can either use adblocking software to eliminate most ads that appear in your browser, or you could apply some adblocking techniques without using adblocking software. If you go for the second alternative, all you have to do is turn off all graphics, Java, JavaScript, and Flash in your browser and sacrifice nearly all the interactivity and usefulness of your web experience in the process. That is why software that selectively removes the annoying ads is probably the smartest solution.

There are a number of adblocking software alternatives available in the market today, both free and paid for. Among the free software that was tested and has proved to be fairly effective are 12Ghosts PopupKiller and 12Ghosts StopMessengerAds. Also, shareware such as STOPzilla!, ABF Internet Explorer Tools, AdBeGone PopUp Killer and CoffeeCup PopUp Blocker have received some good critiques. Free popup blockers, such as STOPzilla and Panicware, are readily available for download. Both the Google and Yahoo toolbars include the ability to block popups. That capacity is also enabled by default in Microsoftกs XP Service Pack Two (SP2) settings for Internet Explorer.

Most adblocking programs work as specialized proxy servers. Once running on your PC, they examine the addresses that your browser requests, check each one against the entries in a frequently updated database of ad server addresses, and then drop requests for ad content. Some also rely on pattern matching to look for windows and images that match known sizes and shapes of ads. Leaving inconvenience aside, there are other good reasons to fight back. For example, blocking ads frees up precious bandwidth and can protect your privacy. Ads take time to load, and they invariably get in the way of what you are really interested in while surfing on the Internet. Because many ad servers place cookies on your computer, ad companies are able to track your surfing. These companies claim that the function of most cookies they set is to regulate the type and amount of advertisements you receive. But because the larger ad services span a wide array of web sites, adrelated cookies can also provide ad companies a lot of insight into your web surfing preferences. And this is a critical issue since you, as most of us consumers, have never explicitly consented to be followed on the web. If you want to learn more about your privacy rights, visit the www.AntiSpamLeague.org website. This organization has a lot of valuable information on privacy, spam, identity theft and other common Internet abuses. Become a free member by visiting www.AntiSpamLeague.org.

Finally, there is the debate regarding whether using adsupported web sites is giving the implicit obligation to tolerate and support online ads. Logically, advertisers think that the implicit contract seems to be acceptable to most users and web sites because without advertisements, the Internet as we know it would vanish really fast. However, the consumers think differently. In the end, people have a right to control what appears on their computer.

Advertisers use these intrusive techniques simply because they are effective. Sad but true. Some of the most intrusive ads have the unfortunate effect of quickly catching customers’ attention and as a result, popup blocking software is getting more and more popular these days. Even Microsoft announced in the end of 2003 that the new Internet Explorer will include popup ad blocker. Naturally, it is foreseeable that popup advertisers are likely to start developing software to bypass it. In April of 2004 Falk eSolutions AG, a global provider of ad delivery and management solutions, launched a new ad targeting option to automatically detect popup blocker software on users’ computers and instantly convert popup and popunder inventory to alternate formats for optimal delivery to those users. Our belief is that as new popupblocking software comes out, more aggressive popup display methods are likely to emerge to bypass the defense. As a final thought, no antiad utility works flawlessly; but without ads, you would not be annoyed so frequently with undesired commercial messages, and pages would definitely load faster!

If you want to learn more about this and other related topics, check out www.AntiSpamLeague.org. This organization offers free membership and the chance to access a wide amount of relevant information on privacy, spam, email abuse, Internet fraud, responsible marketing and several other topics.

About The Author

The purpose of the Anti SPAM League is to help consumers and business owners reduce the amount of SPAM they receive. In addition, our Anti SPAM organization believes that educating site owners in the area of SPAM prevention and ways to successfully and responsibly market their sites, is key in making a difference.

The Benefits of the New Firefox Browser

The Benefits of the New Firefox Browser

by: Jakob Jelling

You probably heard of the new Firefox browser version 1.0 recently released by Mozilla. If you are currently using Internet Explorer or Netscape, you are probably wondering if Firefox is better and why is it better. In order to answer these questions it is necessary to take a look at all the benefits that Firefox offers you as a user.

First of all, Firefox is free, which is definitely a plus. It is an opensource web browser based on the Mozilla code foundation and will work for Windows, Linux and MacOS X operating systems. These are the technical specification, but what is more interesting to you as a user is that Firefox is very fast, secure, and is easy to use and navigate. The user interface is straightforward and uncomplicated.

There are numerous benefits that Firefox has. One of them is the popup blocking capability. You no longer have to see all those frustrating popup windows since the browser will take cake of them. You also don’t need an alternative popup blocker program. Firefox also allows you to use tabs to open new web pages instead of using a new window. This feature is similar to the one that Netscape offers. However, with the Firefox, you can also open web pages in the background.

If you are trying to download some file, it will be automatically saved to your desktop. If you are using Google search engine for your search needs, you will appreciate the built in Google toolbar. Your Firefox toolbar will also include usual features like bookmarks, history, and text size and is customizable to include additional tools and features. If you would like to have an access to an email client you will need to download the Mozilla Thunderbird mail client software.

You don’t have to be a computer professional to install this new browser. The installation and setup are very simple and straightforward and were designed to minimize the amount of work that needs to be done by the user. All your settings will be imported into Firefox. For example, you will see the same favorites as you saw when using Internet Explorer. Firefox is also available in several languages so if you prefer to use some other language then English, you can just install your language version of this browser.

In addition to all the benefits described above, Firefox browser is also offering you a higher level of security. For example, spyware and adware programs cannot automatically install in the Firefox browser.

How to กForceก Your Visitors to Order Immediately!

How to กForceก Your Visitors to Order Immediately!

by: Michael Hopkins

This may comes as a surprise to you but, if you’re using popups on your website (which you should), then chances are you’re using them all wrong. Almost everybody is.

Did you know, for example, that top marketers are using HIDDEN techniques that make any given popup VASTLY more effective on their sites than the VERY SAME popup would be on yours!

In fact, Stephen Pierce has actually admitted that one of these hidden popup techniques increased his profits by a whopping 50%!

Hereกs how that technique works…

Letกs say Joe Bloggs has visited your site but has decided (for whatever reason) not to order just yet. He closes his browser (or clicks to another site) and then BAM!

Up jumps a window that makes Joe a special offer he just CAN’t refuse. On top of that, Joe has only got x number of minutes to make up his mind. Thereกs a countdown happening right before his eyes. If he doesn’t react before the time expires,he loses out on the special deal forever.

Suddenly Joe is back on your site and placing his order.

I call these กPressure Popupsก because they really put your visitorsก backs to the wall and practically force them to take you up on your offer.

For pressure popups to be completely effective they have to be กconditionalก. In other words, they should only pop up when certain conditions are met.

You don’t, for example, want the pressure popup to show if your visitor is about to order your product. After all, the idea behind pressure popups is to pull back those visitors that were leaving your site WITHOUT ordering.

In short, if your visitor is ordering, leave him/her alone. However, if your visitor is clicking away, hit him/her with an offer thatกs too good to resist (like a special discount, an extra bonus, etc.)

Make sure thereกs a live countdown on your popup. Remind your visitor that, once the countdown has ended, the popup will disappear and will never be displayed again.

Itกs easy to see how this kind of popup will make the visitor seriously reconsider your offer. This is particularly effective with those visitors who like your product but decided to order later (and usually never come back). This is the incentive they need to place the order instantly and guarantees you a sale that would otherwise have been lost.

In the four months since I first added a conditional pressure popup to one of my sites, sales have increased by just over 20%. Itกs a good feeling to know that every single extra กpressureก sale Iกve made is one that would never have happened otherwise.

Adding conditional pressure popups to your is simply a question of placing a piece of javascript on your pages. You could go to a site like ScriptLance.com and hire a programmer to create the code. Or, you could download point and click software like Dynamic Popup Generator to make them for you.

Whichever approach you decide to use, go ahead and add these powerful popups to your website today and start putting your visitors under pressure!

Effective or Irritating: The Use of Pop Windows in Internet Marketing

by: Bibi Liew

What is The Google Toolbar?

What is The Google Toolbar?

by: Jakob Jelling

No matter what browser you may want to use, you should consider using Google’s toolbar. Google.com, the innovative, strippeddown, addfree search engine that has taken the web by storm has provided an innovative interface through most web browsers; mainly Internet Explorer. This toolbar has many great features for searching around the Internet as well as blocking those annoying Popup ads that scream ขBUY ME!ข every twenty seconds.

Anyone can go to toolbar.google.com and download this great plugin for your browser. There are various features that come with using it that you may or may not wish to employ. Taking a few minutes before you install it will definitely save you time later on.

Google Search Web

In this interface you can type in keywords, terms, phrases as well as URL’s (Universal Resource Locators) and away you go. By harnessing the Google engine you magically fly through their portal to your destination. You will render a Google search or a direct shot to your URL.

PageRank

With any good toolbar, Google let’s you know how important it thinks the site you are looking is. This rank is rated from 1 – 10, 1 being a very light, lowtraveled website and ten which is a site like Google where millions of people visit each day. Your page rank is determined by several factors, keywords, keyword in URL, and reciprocal linking. Reciprocal linking alone buys the user a popular rank as Google looks favorably at websites that share good karma. The larger the number of websites pointing to your site will ultimately help you rise up through the ranking status.

PopUp Blocker

You get them, we all get them, those nasty popup ads that ask you to lose weight or tell you how to increase your libido. These advertising snippets have become annoying to the point that some websites you cannot even get on because you can be barraged by a plethora of popup ads. The PopUp Blocker plugin allows you to receive little if no popups. Google designed this plugin as an approach to invasion free web surfing. Every time a popup rears its ugly head, POW! Add another popup to the counter. It actually tells you how many popups the toolbar has thwarted.

BlogThis!

An interesting technology that was designed in the late 1990’s and recently purchased by Google. Blog This! Allows the user to create a private or public diary or workspace to share ideas, search for people, create discussions and just jot down information. These blog’s have become infamous over the past few years and Google has purchased the leading company in the boom.

Autofill capabilities

You may have been looking up a specific keyword or term and found a result that you liked. The Autofill capabilities cache your searching information for present as well as future use should you need to call up previous search requests.

As you can the Google toolbar displays many great features and technologies that you can harness in a few short clicks. The technology involved has far surpassed any other search engine on the planet.

Integrating Advertising into Your Web Design

Integrating Advertising into Your Web Design

by: Stephen Bucaro

If you are going to be placing ads on your website, youกll want to put some thought into how youกll integrate them. Poor integration of ads into your website will cause visitors to click away fast. Successful integration of ads into your site can be highly profitable. Before I show you where to position ads, I want to mention a few important points about ads.

1. Ratio of ads to content

How many ads should you place on your website? There is an optimum ratio of ads to content. If your website has too high a proportion of advertising relative to content, the traffic on your website will suffer and you will lose money. If your website has too low a portion of advertising relative to content, the sales on your website will suffer and you will lose money.

What is the optimum ratio of ads to content? I can’t point to any studies, but I feel the optimum ratio is somewhere around 20 to 25 percent ads relative to content. Go much above that ratio and, despite more ads, the revenue from your site goes down. But, there are ways to exceed that ratio and still make more money.

Ads as a service

Advertisements can provide useful information, as well as content. In that case, the ads become content. Hereกs an example. Rather than post ads that pay you the highest commission, post ads that provide the best value to the visitors to your website. These are ads where the value is so good you might respond to the ad yourself. This type of ad is more of a service than an advertisement.

Another example is ads for gifts around the holidays. People expect and are not turned off by an increase in ads around the holidays. Finding gifts for everyone on your list is difficult work, and people appreciate gift ideas. Again, this type of ad is more of a service than an advertisement.

You can safely exceed the normal ratio of ads to content if you hide the ads in the content. An example of this is product ‘reviewsก. For example, computer magazines are almost 100 percent advertising posing as product reviews.

2. Repetition of ads and ad management

I have seen websites that display the exact same banner on every page. If I didn’t respond to the banner on the first page, what makes them think I will repond to it on the second, third … hundredth page?

Displaying the same banner on every page of your website is annoying to your websiteกs visitors, and a money losing propostion for you. Keep your ads fresh. Ads are boring enough without repeating the same ad over and over. Display a variety of ads, and use an ad management system. An example of an ad management system is a banner rotator.

3. Ad type relative to response rate

I have heard claims that text ads receive the highest reponse. Iกm sure these results are not related to whether the ad is text or graphics, but more likely related to the fact that text ads are usually placed in the more responsive areas of a webpage. All thing being equal, a graphic ad will always get better response than a text ad.

A graphic ad will get higher response than a text ad, and an animated graphic ad will get higher response than a static graphic ad. But animation can be taken to an extreme. Some types of animation are annoying and not only does the ad get a low response, but it also causes visitors to click away from your website.

Examples of annoying animated ads are banners that flash or jiggle or do something else that distracts the visitor so they can’t read the webpage content. Those visitors that don’t click away will scroll the webpage so this type of ad goes off screen while they try to read the webpage.

A secret few advertising designers know is that the graphic that will get the most attention is a picture of a human face. People are genetically predisposed to look at a human face in their view area. Try it yourself while you’re browsing the web. If a webpage has a human face on it, thatกs the first thing you will look at.

Where to position ads on your webpage

To discuss where to place ads on a webpage, we need to divide a page into five sections as listed below.

Header

Footer

Left Margin

Right Margin

Center column

Note: There is a sixth area of the webpage which is the popup window. There are many forms of popup windows; popover, popunder, delayed, and exit. The polite way to use popup windows is the selfclosing popup window. Because of popup window blockers, popup windows are much less effective today, and, from my own experience, when I tried using popup windows, the page views on my website dropped by 50 percent.

The most common position to place advertising banners is in the header section of a webpage. Web users have programmed themselves to ignore banners in this position. The response rate of banners in the header section of webpages has dropped to something like .0001 percent. The Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) has tried to overcome this problem by defining giant (what I call กbattleship sizeก) banners. I don’t know of any studies that show this works.

Using banners in the head section of your webpage is a waste of processor time, but most webpages still use them. Making a sale this way is a long shot. Banners in the footer section of a webpage are even less responsive.

Actually Web users have programmed themselves to ignore all advertising on the web. However, from my own experience, you can get some response from ads in the left and right margins of a webpage. Most websites are designed with the menu in the left margin and possibly ads in the right margin. This means if the user has a low resolution display, depending upon the width of the webpage, the advertising may be off the screen.

Place your menu in the right margin and use the left margin for advertising. This places the user with a low resolution display in the positon of having to scroll to view the menu. Too bad. They should get a bigger display. Website revenue comes first.

The most responsive position to put your ads is in the center column of the webpage along with the content. As visitors are reading the article on the webpage, they come upon the ad. Itกs unavoidable.

If you imagine the center column of your webpage divided into three parts; top, middle, and bottom, the most responsive position for your ad will be right in the middle. As the visitors are reading the article on the webpage, they are forced to look at the ad as they continue to the lower part of the article. This might be a little annoying to the reader, but letกs hope your content is worth that slight annoyance.

I would recommend placing your ad at the bottom of the center column. As visitors read the article on the webpage, they end up looking at your ad. This is almost as effective as placing the ad in the middle of the column, and a lot less annoying to the reader.

As you can see, how you integrate advertising into your webpages has a major impact on your ability to produce revenue from your website. Poor ad integration will cause visitors to click away. Proper integration can make your website highly profitable. But, ad positon is not the only determining factor, don’t forget the ratio of ads to content, ad management, and ad type relative to response rate.
