Wealth is in the Eyes of the Prospect

Wealth is in the Eyes of the Prospect

by: Craig Friesen

If you do any browsing of online home business sites or Internet marketing, you will surely have seen this message is some shape or form: กquit your job and become wealthy working from home…let us show you how!ก In fact, most of the people who will read this article may have promoted a product or home business opportunity with a similar sales line or a variation.

What many do not understand is that wealth can be defined in different ways. A dictionary definition of wealth is: 1. riches; large amounts of money or worldly possessions; 2. an abundance of anything.

Your typical advertisement promoting an online moneymaking opportunity focuses mostly on the first definition a large bank account and luxury items to your heartกs content.

Home business opportunities, on the other hand, tend to focus more on the 2nd definition. Here are several examples of how wealth is used as กan abundance of everythingก in online marketing:

quit your job / fire your boss (wealth = more independence and control)

work at home / work from home (wealth = more time for family and self, with flexibility of schedule)

earn extra income / need help paying the bills? (wealth = more discretionary income).

The implications of this observation for us marketers are that you can promote the same opportunity in different ways and by doing so expand your market. Letกs say you have a home business opportunity that involves selling a health product. The 2 most obvious ways to market the opportunity is to interest persons who use the product as well as those people just looking for some kind of home business. Your promotional material will be different for the 2 types of recruits one that promotes the opportunity primarily, and the other that says, กyou use the product, why not earn some money selling it to your friends?ก You could also promote the opportunity as a means to luxury the first definition of wealth. Design your promotional material to highlight the possibilities of residual income.

The point is, no matter what the opportunity, you can widen your prospective market by designing variations to your promotional material. Splash pages are a great way to accomplish this. Optimize the keywords and graphics to focus on one segment of your marketing instead of trying to attract them all. You might also want to prepare matching landing pages so tha tyour prospect doesn’t think they ended up in the wrong place.

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then wealth is in the eyes of the prospective recruit. Understand what your prospects are looking for and promote your business opportunity accordingly.

Marketing Articles: Promoting Your Site Twice!

Marketing Articles: Promoting Your Site Twice!

by: Martin Lemieux

I recently became aware that promoting your web site in Search Engines can instantly be double within Google! Thatกs right, you can instantly promote your site 2 times at once!

So how do you Market Your Site twice?

Simple…

Most of us typically promote www.yoursite.com. But what you need to realize is that most sites can be found on search engines simply by entering… http://yoursite.com without the www.

Try it for a second, lets go to google and type in your url with the www. and then without the www.

So for me it would be:

www.smartads.info

http://smartads.info

The same will apply for subdomains as well. A subdomain is a section of your site dedicated to something you create but instead of residing within your normal directory, it resides within itกs own directory, like Iกve illustrated below…

Normal:

www.yoursite.com

SubDomain:

www.subdomain.yoursite.com

And with that again, you can promote your subdomain twice in Search Engines like so…

www.subdomain.yoursite.com

http://subdomain.yousite.com

So in turn, Iกve just showed you how you can promote 4 sites with all the same goal in mind, yours of course!

How to utilize your new found knowledge:

Hopefully, you are all aware of how important it is to create a link exchange program for your business? Well, what you simply want to do is to mix up your links when submitting to other companies for a listing within their site.

In other words…

Lets say I just found 4 sites that I want to exchange links with, I would do something like this…

Site #1: I would submit (www.yoursite.com)

Site #2: I would submit (http://yoursite.com)

Site #3: I would submit (www.subdomain.yoursite.com)

Site #4: I would submit (http://subdomain.yoursite.com)

Now Iกm promoting my site with 4 times the power than before!

But don’t stop there…

Do you write articles? How about committing 2 of your links to every article. Change them up with each article.

Ex:

Article #1 (How to Submit Your Site to Search Engines)

Try adding

www.yoursite.com

www.subdomain.yoursite.com

Article #2 (How to Market Your Site Twice)

Try adding

http://yoursite.com &

http://subdomain.yoursite.com

I hope this small timbit of knowledge gives you the edge you need to put your business ahead of the game!

Best of luck to you!

5 Simple Ways To Promote

5 Simple Ways To Promote

by: Larry Johnson

Learning to promote your business online is one of the most important steps in being successful.

Otherwise your site may as well be in some dark closet, because no one is going to stumble over it.

Here are 5 simple ways to promote your site and gain some needed traffic for your business.

AUTOMATE IT

As much as possible you should automate your promotion efforts. One of the easiest and quickest ways to do this is the use of autoresponders.

There are many paid ones available and they okay for the most part. Personally, I like to use a fr*ee one you can find here: http://www.freeautobot.com

It comes without any types of ads, and I have found it to be very dependable and useful.

SWAP ADS

There are always those online who are willing to swap ads, bannners or links in order to gain some additional fr*ee exposure.

Search for them in your email messages and in a variety of directories related to your type of business.

For example, here is one that is not fr*ee, but it is wellestablished as a great resource for locating reputable ezines in which to advertise:

http://www.directoryofezines.com/

JOINT VENTURES

Directories can also provide a wealth of contacts for potential Joint Ventures.

For a small percentage of your profits you can enlist the help of other sites and publishers to promote your offer.

One simple way is to use http://www.ClickBank.com which has a builtin affiliate program to help you with just this type of thing.

WRITE ARTICLES

Yes, it takes a little effort, but writing articles to promote your site does pay off.

Sharing a little bit of information in the form of articles with others has many rewards.

Hey, we are working in an information media type of are here, right ? Everyone is looking for the answer to some problem. Help them find it with a wellwritten article and get some deserved promotion when it is published in otherกs newsletters or ezines.

PUBLISH A NEWSLETTER

Online promotion is a slow learning curve for most folks, but it is one that has many rewards in terms of traffic and sales for your online business.

While this list is not inclusive, it does give you a starting point to begin your online efforts at building traffic and gaining some needed exposure.

Remember, กRunning a business without advertising is like winking in the dark. You know what you are doing, but no one else. does.ก

Become An Affiliate Champion: 10 Tips

Become An Affiliate Champion: 10 Tips

by: Henry Ochoa

Affiliates programs are one of the easiest ways to make money in the internet. Small fortunes have been made for smart people who have taken advantage of this powerful marketing technique.

This tips intend to help you on your way to become a highearning affiliate champion, use it as a guideline to your success. Feel free to contact me if you need further information.

First thing first: Target your market. If you try to sell everything to everyone, you will sell nothing.

Choose the right program. Everyday you would find hundreds of new กgetrichquickก programs on the net. Avoid them! Before joining any program, do some research. Trust only programs that have been consistently paying their affiliates

Join one program at a time, stick to it. Avoid distractions joining several programs at the same time. Stay focused on the best program chosen.

Promote, promote, promote!. I cant empathize enough. Promotion is the lifeblood of your programกs success. Focus on marketing and nothing else. One easy way to promote is by joining a traffic exchange program, like traffic swarm.

Write your own classifieds ads, headlines, text links. BE CREATIVE. How many times have you seen the same old add given for an affiliate program! Stay away from the crowd.

Create a content website with a review of your affiliate program. Don’t try to sell the program, instead, give your visitors the best review you can write of the program. Make a bulleted list of benefits YOU have found on that program.

Refer to your programกs web site with a TEXT LINK. Avoid using banners. People tend to look banners as a sales pitch and doesn’t like it. People in your site are looking for information, not to buy. So give them some information. Make them want more information, then give them your text link.

Compile your own mailing list. Offer your visitor a freebie, a newsletter, a free ebook, a report… In exchange, ask for their contact info. The key here is to get their address.

Follow up with this list. Contact them at least once a week. Build trust. Make them know you and trust you.

Track your advertising results and make corrections as necessary. If the program is good, you can profit from it. Do whatever it needs to be done to achieve you goals.

How to Avoid the 11 Biggest Mistakes of First Time

How to Avoid the 11 Biggest Mistakes of First Time Authors

by: Roger C. Parker

ขIf you want to change your life,ข Harry Beckwith wrote in The Invisible Touch, ขwrite a book.ข But writing a book can also be tremendously frustrating and unrewarding.
Following are the 11 biggest reasons most firsttime authors fail to receive the rewards they are due.
1. Unrealistic expectations. Don’t expect to get rich off your book, even if it’s a success by publishing standards. The vast majority of books fail to earn out their advance.
Instead, develop a personal marketing plan to leverage your career off your book. Instead of trying to make money on the book itself, use your book to open doors, promote your credibility and build relationships with readers.
2. Writing without a contract. Never write a book without a signed contract. Instead, prepare a polished proposal and two sample chapters.
Publishers are increasingly selective about the titles they accept. Often, less than 1 in 20 titles proposed are published. Writing a book that isn’t accepted is not a good use of your time.
3. No agent. You must be represented by a literary agent. Publishers rarely accept unsolicited book proposals. Unsolicited proposals are frequently returned unread or are simply discarded.
The right agent will know exactly which publishers might be interested in your book. Agents can also negotiate terms more effectively than you.
4. Weak titles. Titles sell books. The title of your book is like the headline of an advertisement. The title represents your one and only chance to attract the attention of acquisition editors or bookstore readers.
Successful titles stress the benefits readers will gain from your book. Successful titles arouse curiosity and offer solutions. They often include consonants and alliteration (repeated ‘hard’ sounds like G, K, P or T).
5. Title versus series. Focus on a series of books rather than an individual title. Publishers want concepts that can be expanded into a series rather than individual titles.
6. Going it alone. Successful careers involve a nurturing support group of readers and peers. Your quest should include the support of your friends, other authors, book coaches, readers and others who will help you maintain your enthusiasm while providing ideas, assistance and feedback.
7. ‘Event’ writing. Write a little each day rather than ‘going away’ to write your book. Stress is an author’s biggest enemy. When you attempt marathon writing, you’re putting an unrealistic burden on yourself. ขWhat happens if I come back and my book isn’t written?ข
8. Selfediting. Avoid unnecessary selfediting. It’s far more important to complete the first draft of your book than to agonize over the perfection of every word.
Editors will ensure that grammar is correct and ideas appear in the proper order. But they can’t do anything until you submit the final manuscript.
9. Failure to promote. Publishers are not promoters. Publishers are skilled at editing, manufacturing and distributing books. But they are not set up to give your book the marketing attention it deserves. A single publicist may represent over 100 books!
If you want your book to succeed, you have to promote it as well as write it.
10. Failure to back up and save. Save frequently when writing. Always save before printing. Never turn off your computer without making a copy of your files for offpremises storage. Never end a writing session without printing out a hard copy of the latest version of the chapter you’re writing.
11. Failure to plan future profits. Before writing your book, create a book marketing plan. Book sales should be just the first step in an ongoing relationship with your readers. Your plan should identify opportunities from consulting, newsletters, audio/video recordings, seminars, speeches and yearly updates.
A book can, indeed, change your life. But you must take charge; take a proactive role in promoting and leveraging its success.

Promote Your Web Business With Every Email You Sen

Promote Your Web Business With Every Email You Send!

by: Dan Karwoski

Website owners are always on the lookout for new ways to promote their business. What if I told you could advertise your business every time you send an email and it wouldn’t cost you a dime?

When you meet someone you might give him or her one of your business cards. Now the recipient has all your contact information, learns a little about your business and this allows you to expose your brand. With an eBusinessCard you can still give them one of your cards, electronically, using Microsoft Outlook! All you have to do is create your card in HTML to resemble your printed card. Then save it to your Outlook signature folder so you can send an electronic version. The big advantage to an electronic card is it has live links that can take the viewer to the exact page on your website with the information they need. See the sample here http://www.junglia.com/emailstationary/horiz.asp.

Open your favorite HTML editor and design and build your card. Or if you currently use a printed card just copy it. If you lack design and/or HTML skills you can use the handy form below to painlessly create your own card. If you create your own card remember to use absolute paths (full http path) for all your links and images. In order for this to work with all email clients you will need to place any images you use on a server and create an absolute link to the image. If the email recipients don’t have HTML enabled in their mail client Outlook automatically creates and sends a text version, which can be read with any program.

Detailed instructions for uploading and using your card are listed here http://www.junglia.com/emailstationary/horiz.asp in step 7.

This is a simple and inexpensive way to promote your business. Everyone you correspond with will know that you are a professional.

ขHow To Use Ezine Articles To Promote Any Product,

ขHow To Use Ezine Articles To Promote Any Product, Service, or Affiliate Program You Choose in 5 Easy Steps

by: Henri Schauffler

Do you have a great affiliate program or website all ready to go, waiting for the customers to come? Are your family and friends getting anxious, waiting for your new project to start breaking through? Then be sure to print out this article and follow the step by step plan perfectly…

For years, smart marketers have been using ezine articles to Rake in enormous traffic to any site of their choosing. But many of us have felt it impossible to get into this lucrative marketing area, for varied reasons such as lack of know how or a feeling of uncertainty as to writing ability.

At the end of this article, Iกm going to offer you some resources to end the mystery and make this mega marketing strategy as simple as 12345. But first, letกs take a look at how ezine article marketing works.

Ill bet you can’t tell me the best way to use ezine articles to promote your offer. Go ahead. Give it your best shot. Out loud. Say it. Whatever comes to mind, just blurt it out.

Iกm listening.

You see, most folks don’t really understand how to BEST use ezine articles to promote a product or service, or their favorite affiliate program.

They know they are supposed to write an article, include some kind of clever offer in the text or in their resource box, and convince editors to publish their article.

But, there is a *very* clever way to use your article to promote like youกve never seen before.

There are five simple steps…

Step 1: Choose the product or service you want to promote. Now, we’re not talking about your newsletter we’re talking about an actual offer you want to present that youกll earn profits from when readers of your article make a purchase.

Step 2: Determine your กuseful, but incompleteก approach. I love to use what I have coined as the กuseful, but incompleteก approach when using freebies of any kind. (Ezine articles, free eBooks, reports, eCourses, etc.)

What I mean by that is simply this: You provide your reader with กusefulก information (something they find of value and are able to actually apply) but make certain that it is กincompleteก in that they can better use the information by making a purchase.

Thatกs กuseful, but incomplete.ก And it works like a charm.

Let me give you an example:

I wanted to promote Getresponse.com in a free ezine article. This is a service that offers unlimited autoresponders, tracking and all kinds of other stuff for one low price.

How could I use an ezine article to promote the service?

By writing an article that explains how to benefit from using autoresponders or mailing lists, of course! My article explains different uses of autoresponders and how the reader can profit from implementing the ideas.

And, naturally, they will need an autoresponder service in order to put the ideas into practice, right?

And I just happen to know of a great service they can use. :o)

Step 3: Turn your approach into a tips list or tutorial. Letกs use my example again. I decided that I would describe various uses of autoresponders and how the reader can actually profit from them. What kind of tips list or tutorial could I create?

กHow to Generate More Subscribers, Sales and Profits With Automated FollowUp Messagesก

ก7 Powerful And Profitable Ways To Use Autoresponders To Skyrocket Your Sales and Subscribers!

กWant to Increase Your Online Profits And Leads? Here are 7 Ways to Do It…ก

I actually went with the middle title. I wrote my list of the 7 ideas that I wanted to share. And I had the makings of a perfect article to promote an offer.

Thatกs all you need to do. Determine your end result. Decide how to get there with your กuseful, but incompleteก approach. And then develop a list, or even a stepbystep tutorial for your article that leads the reader along.

Step 4: Expand on each point to build your content. Hereกs more of the easy part. Just กfillintheblanksก to complete your article. Write 12 short paragraphs for each of your points. Make them good. Provide quality content. The offer you will soon make will see poor results if your information isn’t useful.

Light a fire in your readers. Motivate them. Challenge them. Give them such nuggets of gold that they want to keep mining until they hit the mother lode!

Step 5: Put on the finishing touches with the กfive pillars.ก There are five things that you should always do to finish up your ezine article. Don’t skip any of them. They are all critical…

A. Polish. Reread your article. Does it provide information that really is กusefulก to the reader? And yet leaves them wanting even more? Thatกs what you want.

B. Promote. Use your resource box to promote your offer. This is why weกve written the article, right? Remember step one? Itกs time to put it into play. Give the reader what they (hopefully) are wanting…a way to maximize the information you gave them.

C. Proof. Don’t do this yourself. Have a trusted friend, relative or coworker check your article for grammatical and typographical errors.

D. Publish. Zip your new article out to your favorite list of publishers. Submit it to the announcement lists and the ezine directories.

E. Profit. If youกve covered all the bases that Iกve mentioned, then profits are almost certain to start coming in when your ezine article is published. You deserve it. Be proud of your accomplishments.

Thats it. Start submitting your article to ezines and article directories and wait for the profits to roll in!

RESOURCES:

If you would like to automate the lions share of the ezine writing and formatting task, you ought to consider Jimmy Browns fantastic new software release, Ezine Article Creator 2.0

How To Earn Money Without A Website

How To Earn Money Without A Website

by: Edward Green

I will tell you right here and now you do not need to have a website to be successful in internet marketing.

There are some essential tools you will need, but a website needn’t be one of them.

Ok, a website is useful, even more so if you sell your own products. But if you are an affiliate salesperson, you don’t need your own site.

For affiliate marketing, there is in truth only one tool you need and that is an autoresponder. You need a great autoresponder that will allow you broadcast messages to the contact list that you will build. I have found that the free autoresponder programs will not let you do this, so you need to invest about $15 per month in a good autoresponder. Believe me this will be one of the best investments you ever make in your online business. And, since autoresponder programs are affiliate programs themselves, you can promote your autoresponder program and sooner or later have it pay for itself.

This is a straightforward marketing system that will promote your affiliate program without your own website:

1. The marketing system is to establish yourself as an expert on the products you are promoting. You wil do this by creating content: first, by posting in related content forums and submitting articles to article directories, secondly, by starting your own ezine or newsletter, and thirdly, by personally contacting ezine owners and offering your article for publication in their ezine. For a free list of article directories I submit to, send a blank email to [email protected]

2. You MUST promote your affiliate product or program in the resource box at the end of your article. Write a brief description of who you are, what you do, and how readers can learn more. For more detail, see my resource box at the end of this article.

3. The secret to promoting your affiliate product is to promote it via your autoresponder. Since you have written an article about what you are selling, you will have the prospect looking for more information. If you wrote an article on dog training, write something like, ขFor more free tips on training your dog, send a blank email to [email protected]

4. In your autoresponder, write a series of short emails with a few tips in each email and most importantly a sentence that refers your readers to your sales product or affiliate program.

5. So, Not only have you been promoted your product for a very very low cost, the cost of your autoresponder, but you have been collecting names that you can offer more related products to again and again. The names also become your list for your newsletter and joint marketing ventures with other marketers.

6. Try to write a brand new article every week or at least every 2 weeks, and continue sending it to your list and article directories, and continue posting in forums. In no time you will have a nice list built. And this is all without your own website!

How to Promote your Mailing List

How to Promote your Mailing List

by: Matt Colyer

Today one of the best ways to reach customers is with a mailing list. A mailing list will build your credibility, which builds trust in your customer because they know that you are knowledgeable about your subject. It also allows you to build a relationship with your customers. Growing your mailing list is often one of the biggest challenges for webmasters. So how do you go about promoting your mailing list?

1) There are many sites dedicated to listing mailing list on their site for their visitors. Register your mailing list at Ezine announcement directories. You may be able to find some that are specifically for your subject, these are the ones that are going to provide you with targeted readers.

2) Write your own articles and submit them for publication. Pick a topic related to your site, but where you also know what your talking about. Other web sites will pick these articles up and post them on their site or even better in their newsletter. After you write each article post a link to your mailing list at the end of it in the writers resource box.

3) If your newsletter is good youกll have people sharing it with family and friends, Sometimes people will forget to do this, so make sure you add a friendly reminder in each newsletter to tell their friends about it.

4) If you have a ebook or free guide on your web site, If your newsletter has the same topic, promote your newsletter in it. You can give your ebook or guide to other web sites to give to their visitors.

5) Get active in discussion groups and include a link to your web site in your signature. But be careful, some forums will not allow you to promote your products/services in your signature, so read the rules first.

5 Effective Ways to Promote Your Website For Free

5 Effective Ways to Promote Your Website For Free Online

by: Ben Chapi

1. Generate Targeted Traffic from Online Discussion Forums.

Online discussion forums provide an excellent way to promote your website without paying any money. Nowadays, you don’t even have to lurk around before you begin to post. Just browse the messages and you can start posting. There are basically three different ways to participate. You can ask questions, respond to requests for help or just post any useful information that fits with the general topic of that discussion forum. To promote your site in online discussion forums, all you have to do is enter your website address or ad in your signature line at the bottom of each message. Every time you post or respond to questions your ad will be displayed. If you post good content, people who read your threads will also check out your website. This is an excellent way to drive targeted traffic to your website at no cost to you. You can take this type of site promotion a step further by identifying the active members in each forum and contacting them for joint venture arrangements.

2. Write Articles or Free reports for other webmasters to publish.

Another effective way to promote your website is to write articles or free reports for ezine publishers and webmasters to use. If you write good content, your articles will be published and many readers who like your article will go on to visit your website. You can also write simple research based articles and allow others to publish these freely on their websites. The traffic from these free articles will come from your byline. The ‘byline’ is the short paragraph that goes at the bottom of each article and describes who the author is and what they do. The good thing about writing this type of content is that it establishes you as the expert and therefore increases the chances of people visiting your website and signing up for whatever you’re offering.

3. Do Joint Ventures with List owners and Webmasters.

If done correctly, joint venture marketing is one of the most effective ways to promote a product or service. A Joint venture can take many forms but it’s generally an agreement for some kind of partnership between one or more parties working together to their mutual benefit. It allows you to leverage highly targeted lists or traffic with no risk. Joint ventures are excellent for new product or service announcements because they allow you to reach a wide customer base very quickly.

4. Leverage the power of your email Signature.

One of the quickest and effective ways to start driving traffic to your website at no extra cost is to add your ad or website address to your email signature. This way, every time you send an email, you’ll be advertising your website. You can take this a step further by asking your friends and associates to put your website address in their email signature. Most people don’t use their email signature facility in their email program so you can easily get 10 or more people to agree to do this. If you and your 10 friends each send out 10 emails per day, that’s 110 exposures of your ad every day without any extra effort on your part.

5. Exchange Links with Other Webmasters.

This is another effective strategy for generating targeted traffic to your website for free. It involves contacting other webmasters for a possible link exchange partnership. All you have to do is locate websites that are related to yours but that are not in direct competition and contact the webmaster to swap links. There are various free ebooks and articles available online on this topic.

Time Wasters and Energy Suckers

Time Wasters and Energy Suckers

by: Dianne Salmon

Stop wasting your time and having your energy sucked dry! What do I mean by this statement? You’re all over the internet trying to find out where to promote that new business you entered into, or trying to promote your own business. Youกve been told by so called experts to promote your new business to free classified ad sites or FFA pages.

They even told you that you will get a ton of traffic to your new site. And you will have 100กs or even 1000กs in your downline if you advertise your business this way. กKeep at it,ก they say, and within a couple of weeks you will see exponential results.

So you follow their advice. Night after night you come home from work and advertise your business to free classified ads and FFA pages. You just know that sooner or later your efforts will pay off.

And then reality hits like a ton of bricks! Youกve been advertising your business for two months now. To your dismay you find that you don’t even have one lead or one referral.

What you might have though if you upgraded to the PRO version of the FFA submission is a credit card bill. The bill can be anywhere from $20.00 to $40.00 US dollars.

What you definitely do have is your email client filled with tons of counter ads. So whatกs the best way to advertise your new business?

Submit articles to ezines and promote your business with the help of others. This is the most cost effective way to promote your business. All it costs you is the time to write your article, and you don’t receive a ton of counter ads in your inbox.

4 Questions to Answer Before Contacting a Book Age

4 Questions to Answer Before Contacting a Book Agent

by: Roger C. Parker

Obtaining agency representation is your first step toward getting profitably published. Most publishers won’t even look at unsolicited manuscripts.
But, before approaching an agent to represent you, you should finalize the presentation of your book.
Agents don’t have time to waste dealing with publishing ‘wannabees’ who don’t have, and may never have, a concrete project to represent. To busy agents, dreams don’t make it.
If you approach an agent before you’re prepared, you may never be able to contact them again. They’ll consider you a ‘dreamer’ and disregard you emails and phone calls.
Elevator Speech
Before approaching an agent, prepare an ‘elevator speech’ describing your project in the less than thirtyseconds it takes for an average elevator ride. If you can’t, your project probably isn’t ready for prime time.
Your elevator speech must answer four major questions:

What is your book about?
Who is going to buy it?
How does it differ from existing books on the subject?
How are you going to promote it?

1. What is your book about?
Finalize your book’s title and contents before contacting an agent.
The title is crucial to your book’s success. It must attract the attention of acquisition editors, book reviewers, bookstore managers, web surfers and readers. The title is often your one – and only – chance to make a sale.
Finalize your book’s table of contents and prepare a brief description of the contents of each chapter. You should also know how long your book is going to be and the number of illustrations, graphics or worksheet
Prepare two – three, if you’re a firsttime author – sample chapters and hire a professional editor to finetune them. It’s better to show three perfect chapters than a finished manuscript filled with spelling errors.
You don’t have to write your whole book before approaching agents. And your sample chapters don’t have to begin with the first chapter, nor do they have to be in sequence. But, they must represent your writing at its best.
2. Who’s going to buy your book?
Next, show that there is a reachable market for your book.
Strive for urgency. Describe the market intrigued by, or frustrated by, your book’s topic. What symptoms does your book help solve? How many people share the problem? What are the consequences of the problem your book addresses?
Quantify your book’s market in terms of buying power, willingness to buy books and ability to be reached through associations or publications.
3. How will your book be different?
Next, position your book relative to existing books on the topic. Existing books on the same topic are a plus, not a minus. They prove there is a market for books on the subject.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of existing books?
Why will readers choose your book over existing books?

This section offers you an opportunity to describe your background and how it contributes to your book.
4. How will you promote your book?
Promotion is your responsibility, not the publisher’s. Your ability to promote your book is as important as your ability to write your book.
Start by identifying book reviewers and editorial contacts who can help promote your book. List publications that might run an extract from your book. Research producers who book guests for radio and TV interviews.
Discuss your speaking experience and willingness to travel to support your book. Describe how you will promote your book on your web site.
List authorities in your field who have offered to write a foreword or provide you with cover testimonials.
Agents are busy. To the extent you can sell your book idea as a realistic possibility in thirty seconds and can support your answers with research and strong sample chapters, you are well on your way to success.
After you’ve been successfully published, you may be able to sell a book on just the basis of an email. But for now, you must be fully prepared.
