Forget The Hype!

Forget The Hype!

by: AnnaMarie Stewart Venton

So you`re new to the internet, and want to learn everything you can about internet marketing. Or at least the essential basics, and you want a place to go to find the answers to all of your questions?

I hate to tell you this, and I`m really sorry, but as far as I know, there IS no onestop source to learning the essential marketing skills, apart from school maybe, but I will TRY to answer some questions you may have from my own experience:

Let`s see, I started out with absolutely NO computer knowledge at all. Went to chatrooms, talked with people, got me some contacts, then one day I got a junkmail full of hype (that I believed…hehehe) and promptly started joining affiliate programs. I joined this one, that one and the other one, all full of promises that I`d be megarich within a few months. Being a newbie, I swallowed it all. Hook, line and sinker. None of it ever panned out right though.

I lost some money, not huge amounts, but more than I`d care to remember, so I started with the free stuff. I didn`t have any knowledge on building downlines and stuff, so that didn`t work neither. Then I started helping people I referred to various things, and things looked slightly better. It was all free stuff that didn`t make me any real money, but it gave me traffic to other free sites I was promoting, I got downlines, and I got contacts, so I knew it was working.

After that, I kinda concentrated on helping everybody I came across, to the point where that was ALL I was doing, and funnily enough, I loved it. Still didn`t make me money, but it made me feel great.

That`s how my ezine came about. I wanted to help people as much as possible, teach them to steer clear of hype, stick dilligently to one thing, and build a good downline in it, whilst showing them how to help each other. You`ll find that any articles I`ve written to date(05/15/03) cover these things.

I will say that there are a couple of กskillsก needed for anybody wanting to be an online marketer.

Firstly, you need a touch of กblindnessก so you don`t even LOOK at all the hype, because if it LOOKS too good to be true, then it more than likely is.

You need deep concentration, and dedication, to help you stick with one thing, and you need to be able to work really hard at getting that one thing to work.

You also need a lock and key on your wallet. It`s real easy to buy into this that and the other program, and before you know it, you`ve used a LOT more money than you can afford to lose. There`s always a risk that any money you use, could be lost forever, so always keep that in mind.

As for computer jargon, I`ve been online for 4 years, and I`m STILL learning. Actually, I`m only just now starting to learn HTML so that I can publish my ezine without having to rely way too much on my programmer, who by the way, is the greatest teacher on earth. There`s a page here full of กjargonก and links to more info, I find it pretty useful: http://www.imagescape.com/helpweb/history/define.html

When it comes to suggesting a starting point, that`s a real hard one. I think I`d say chatrooms personally. Without my programmer, and my other friends that I`ve met in chatrooms, I wouldn`t be where I am today. So I`d say THE most important thing when it comes to marketing is your contacts. Get as many contacts as you can, and learn from their mistakes.

Also, subscribe to a few ezines that really cover the กnewbieก things. Read everything you can that`s relative to what you want to do. You`ll suffer from information overload, there`s no doubt about that, but some of the stuff WILL stick in your head, and you can start learning from there.

If you find the ezine isn`t giving you the information you need, unsubscribe and move on to the next one. There`s hundreds of thousands of them out there to choose from, just don`t subscribe to too many at once, or you`ll be so inundated with mail that you`ll end up not reading any of them at all.

In closing: Read, read, read, and read some more. Take all promises of กinstant wealthก with a pound of salt. (A pinch isn`t enough). Question everything that seems to กoverpromiseก. Learn as much as you can before starting out, be prepared, and remember: There are no stupid questions, just stupid answers 😉

Does Your Marketing Plan Need Changing?

Does Your Marketing Plan Need Changing?

by: Joy Gendusa

Change is good, right? Not always. But when is it bad? Is it a question of good or bad? Sounds philosophical. Maybe it is.

Philosophize on this…why would one take something that is going good – no.. great – and change it? Obvious answer is to make it better. Not!

In business or in marketing, change is not always good. When you have certain promotional actions that are in place making things happen, or in better terms, making you money – don’t change them! Why do I say this? Because I see it time and time again. Someone has a marketing campaign that is bringing in a good return on investment and they up and decide to change their postcard! What?!?!?!?!? Change your postcard – why??????? ขEr uh, we just decided to do something different.ข

And then some three or four months down the road, they call back with their tail between their legs and ask – no demand to have everything back the way it was before. In this latter case – change is good.

I am not just saying that to say that one should always keep their postcard marketing campaign the same and never change it. Quite the contrary. Change your marketing, change your habits, change your way of life when it warrants it. There is really some truth to the old adage ขIf it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.ข Maybe it is human nature to want to change everything once something gets going just the way they planned it. Who the heck knows? All I can say is step outside the humannature box. Change only when things are drastic or when change is warranted.

Drastic circumstances deserve drastic measures. But how do you determine drastic? Sometimes that is really easy. Your company’s income is crashing. Do something! Change! Or better yet, figure out what you changed and get it back to what was working.

How about a plateau? Does that deserve change? Depends on how long that plateau lasts. I have never seen things leveling off and staying level forever. It either goes one of two ways – up or down. I know an optometrist who had a very successful practice in small town USA. He never really marketed. He never really had to. People knew of him from miles around. Mainly he did PR stuff – a fundraiser here, networking there, etc., etc. His good works made him well known and respected and the community ooo’ed and ah’ed over him so much the paper loved printing it.

But things changed. Malls started opening up. People started shopping out of smalltown USA and into the bigger cities. The environment changed. But he didn’t. He still kept a good practice, but you could see something interesting – his gross income started to plateau. And over time – many years – that plateau gradually started to show where it was really going. I actually don’t have to say where – you’ve got the picture.

Now, would that demand drastic measures? Taking into account inflation, cost of living and other factors that are on the rise – yes, I would say that would demand drastic measures. Did he take them? Not until the direness became all too apparent. But yes, he finally did take them. He started postcard marketing his youknowwhat off!

I have another client that is just a dream. They have had the same list for the past 5 years, ever since they have been in business – thirty thousand physical therapists they mailed to over and over and over and over and … They never changed. They figured if it was bringing in the income it was the thing that was working. And it worked and it still works. And today – they made Entrepreneur’s 100 Hot List for 2005.

So, next time you think about changing your marketing plan, look to see if it needs it. Look at your numbers. Are they improving? Declining? If your income is going up – don’t change one single thing. But if it is going down or flat lining – for heaven’s sake, change!

Getting Started

Getting Started

by: John Colanzi

New marketers are coming online everyday. If you’re one of them, Iกm sure youกve been asking yourself, กwhere do I start?ก

Thereกs so little time and so much information to absorb.

So many gurus with conflicting information.

Whoกs right?

Who should you listen to?

Before you do anything, you should sit down and decide what you are passionate about. Itกs so much easier to succeed if you’re promoting something that excites you and gets your blood flowing.

Iกve always been an information junkie. Selling information just fits me like a glove.

You may be sports oriented. You may have a passion for selling sports related products.

In the words of Shakespeare, กIn brief Sir, study what you most affect.ก

Find your passion and you’re ready to get started.

The next question should be whether to promote affiliate programs?

I know many marketers may disagree, but I think affiliate programs are a good starting point.

Why?

** Pick the right program and youกll get a good education.

** It requires little or no capital to get started.

** A good program will supply you with sales aids and teach you how to follow up on prospects.

** Itกs like an apprenticeship. You’re being paid to learn.

** You’re building an opt in list. When you’re ready to launch your own products, youกve got a built in audience.

Just follow these simple steps.

Find a good program that will give you a marketing education and a solid income stream.

Build your opt in list.

When you’re ready, start promoting your own products and services.

Iกm sorry if you were looking for ideas on becoming an overnight millionaire. This isn’t the plan for you.

This simple plan is for you if:

You want to build a solid, long term business.

You don’t want to throw away money chasing กpie in the skyก dreams.

You realize that making money online is like anything else in life.

You have to learn in order to earn.

Get started now. Big goals are accomplished one step at a time.

Wishing You Success,

Aim2gain

Aim2gain

by: Renetta Kriel

For 20 years my actual job was working on a computer, then I decided to buy a personal computer to work from home. This was the best decision I have ever made. Obviously I got myself Internet and one day while I was surfing the Net, I accidentally came across affiliated programmes and subscribed to one of the newsletters. After that I have never looked back.

At that stage I wondered how many people out there knew about all the money one can make on the Net working from home? As I am a very nosy person, all the letters I received after that, tickled me pink. I started to find out what this was all about. Then I realized that there are people out there waiting for me to start a new beginning. Needless to say I was sick of my current job. Working for 20 years without any promotion, salary ain’t getting better, things getting more hectic by the day! That is when I decided to take a break.

The best of it all is that once you get started on your own home business, help is available everywhere, even if you are a total newbie on the Internet as well as a computer. Actually to become a home entrepreneur is extremely easy. I would like to inform you that at this stage in time I am still working full day, married with 2 young kids and that did not stop me at all!

If you do not know anything about Internet marketing, how to advertise etc. that is no problem! Like I have said before, help is just a click away! The whole homeentrepreneursthing on the Internet is a family thing. I gathered that after just a few weeks that everybody seems to help everybody. That is just fantastic. Please remember that only some of the things you have to do to let your business run smoothly, is for free. But you must bear in mind that a small budget is of utmost importance. Nobody can operate without money. You do need a small budget. When you have a website and are signed up with one or more affiliate programmes, let all your friends in your address book know what your plan of action is so that they also can benefit from what you are doing. This home business of yours depends entirely on you at what pace you want to move.

I would like to give you a few pointers :

Firstly get yourself subscribed as a free affiliate to one of the main affiliate programmes on the Net, like SFI. (etc…)

The next thing you do is build that optin list everyone is talking about. If you do not have a list, that is where the action and hard work starts! The reason for that is that you cannot have a product and nobody to sell it to! The list is very important; you do need traffic to your site. That is what this business is all about. Don’t forget that!

Next you build your website. Also very important. The main thing is to drive traffic to your gateway pages and your website in order to make things happen. Ask me. I thought to myself now when ARE things going to happen?! And suddenly my list grew and grew and my commissions started accumulating. Financial freedom, here I come!

Views from a Roc

Views from a Roc

by: Nicholas Dixon

A few days ago I was reading an article about the chances of succeeding online that had me thinking. Did you know that out of every 100 websites probably only about 5 of them will be successful?
Most of this can be blamed on the site owners themselves. A lot of people put up a website with a few products and expect the dollars to start rolling in soon after. Not. That is the easiest way for you to fail.
Several years ago when I built my first website, I almost became a victim of the ขeasy does it syndromeข. After a few months online, I noticed that I was getting very few visitors and I began to worry.
After some extensive research, I found out that the only way to generate traffic was to roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty. It has been a roller coaster ride every since I started.
You see, many persons started in a more favorable position than I did. A lot of them had the resources readily available at a moment’s notice, which was a privilege for me to have. And please I am not complaining, just letting you know where I am coming from.
Access to a credit card, internet sessions and having a computer is beyond the average Jamaican. So what was the son of a market vendor getting into?
Most marketers have a professional website with a domain name and the like. I started with a Geocities website that I still have at present. Now if you are acquainted with online marketing, you would know that is a cardinal sin. But I still went ahead with it anyway.
I utilized various marketing techniques to channel traffic to my website. Due to obvious limitations, my traffic is nowhere in Yahoo’s region but I receive several hundred page views per week for my efforts.
Along the way I have been insulted, ridiculed and flamed by some marketers who somehow don’t appreciate my contributions. But you know what, that doesn’t bother me at all. I need it.
That’s what makes me strong and resilient in my pursuit of success. And you can do it too, even better that I did. With the right guidance and knowledge you can make it in a shorter time span.

Are You Getting Enough?

Are You Getting Enough?

by: Robert J Farey

Are you getting enough?

Are you getting your full share?

Is your product selling?

Are you a newcomer to emarketing?

Are you working yourself to death trying to make a living?

If your answer to the first three questions is yes, read no further.

If your answer to the last two questions is yes, read on. You need help.

Marketing a product on the internet is not quite the same as marketing in the physical world.

For one thing there are few secrets on the net. Everyone seems to be prepared to help one another. If you are uncertain or have a problem, you only have to ask and there is always someone out there with the answer.

If someone discovers a better or easier way of doing something, it will be common knowledge within days.

YOU ARE NOT ON YOUR OWN

If you are new to ecommerce I would recommend that you join one of the affiliate programs that are prepared to teach you and show you what to do.

If you are serious about making money. You will require a domain name and a website of your own. You will also need someone to host your website.

With all of the help and advice available out there, there is no reason why you should not make a good, steady, constantly increasing income in a very short time.

As you continue to learn the time will come when you will want to branch out on your own.

That is when you will be glad to have the income from the affiliate programs to back you up.

There are far too many people trying to set up on their own without the basic knowledge of running a business at all.

They look at the adverts telling them how to become a millionaire whilst sitting in the sun on a tropical beach. They try everything in sight only to become disillusioned and lose their money.

I know. I was once one of the great band of losers when I first started.

For two years I tried. ‘without success’. I counted up my losses. I had wasted over a thousand pounds Stirling trying to go it alone.

The problem was that I knew that there were people out there making more than a good living running a business on the internet.

It was time to either get out and put it all down to experience, or to bury my pride and get some help.

I ONLY HAD TO ASK.

I joined an affiliate company selling information products. กIt cost me nothing to joinก. I reasoned that if I was to offer business information to others, this would be a good way of getting the information for myself. กIt workedก I started making money instead if spending it.

It was not long before I had recouped all of my losses and started putting some in the bank.

Since then I have joined several other affiliate companies and I now make more than twice the money than I was earning a few years ago, and I only work when I want to.

I am now in the position to do lots more for my family with spare time to enjoy their company.

I only wish that I could have done it ten years ago.

One of the good things about these affiliate companies is that you can’t lose. If you don’t make money, neither does the company. They have every incentive to make sure that you make as much as possible, their reputation and their profits depend upon it.

You can do it if you realy want to. You can do anything if you realy want to.

Give it a go.

Best wishes and lots of money, from, Bob.

Can You Own Your Own Store On eBay, Even Though Yo

Can You Own Your Own Store On eBay, Even Though You Do Not Own Any Products?!

by: Karin Boode

Can you own your own store on eBay, even though you do not own any products?!

You have sold a few items here and there on eBay and really enjoyed doing it. You got a great price for all your items. You would really like to sell more and, down the road, maybe quit your job. But you don’t have any products to sell, nor is your twobedroom apartment big enough to keep a serious inventory. So, you wonder whether selling on eBay is realistic for you…………..

If the above is you, I would like to share my experiences with you. But first, let me assure you that not owning products and no space for storage should not stop you from setting up shop on eBay!

If you have a computer, an internet connection and the determination to make it happen, you, too, can be on your way to selling on eBay full time!

Here is how I did it: I started by writing down the areas I know (somewhat) and enjoy, thinking that it would be easier to sell products I know a little about. With this knowledge in mind, I looked for wholesalers that showed an interest in working with me. I also looked for the demand for these products. Based on this information I determined the price I wanted for the products and as a result the profit these products would generate. I picked the ones that seemed to give me the best prices and the biggest opportunity in terms of profit. At this point a lot of questions were answered. But there were still a lot more that needed answers. Questions like: what type of auction to use, and how long to have the auction for. I was not sure either, at what price to start the auction. What would be too much? And can you start too low or too high?

I was wondering how important it would be to have a broad range of products and what the impact would be of the layout of the auction. I decided to use the same layout that worked well for others. This way I figured I would take the least amount of risk.

When I started selling more I started realizing that it would be nice to automate some of the tasks that I was still doing by hand. Like, automatically, sending a conformation email to the person who won the auction. I did this myself for a while, but it does get very time consuming.

I also wondered whether other auction sites are available that are better suited for my products and/or would yield better sales.

Believe it or not, but I did find answers to my questions. Some by spending a lot of time surfing the internet, and some by using a course I found on the internet. The course was particularly effective. I could read the text at my leisure and then, at the end of each step, I would have homework, to practice the lesson learned. It helped me get over my initial hesitation to actually do what I knew had to be done. And after doing it once I could do it again and again and again. I found out how to get more people to come to my auctions and what it takes to make them want to buy my products. It is amazing to me how easy the process really is, once you know how it works.

There are many eBay courses out there and they will all be instrumental in getting you started. I do recommend that you find one that shows you step by step how the process works, and that makes you go through the motions by executing the steps yourself. This way you get over the initial hesitation to actually do what you just learnt. In case you are interested, I used the course from www.howtomakemoneyinauctions.com.

Good luck selling online!

The Headless Newbie don’t burn that credit card

The Headless Newbie don’t burn that credit card

by: Marc Howlett

Are you a headless newbie?

I know I was when twelve month ago when I started looking into setting up an online business. Whichever way I turned people were willing to offer me advice, ebooks, freebies, newsletters, amazing money making opportunities, advertising, search engine placement and much more. This was great but my head started spinning and my credit card started to melt and worst of all I wasn’t making a cent.

I learnt a lot during this time and have started to see my commission cheques increase so here are my top 5 tips to help the newbie with the credit card rush to stop sit back and actually start earning some money.

1: Before you sign up for anything read the sales page fully and see what you are actually getting for your money. Many of these pages contain a lot of information and the tendacy is to skim them for the interesting parts ie: How much does it cost. This is exactly what they are desinged to do, so slow down and read everything fully. When I first started I signed up for several programs just because they seemed to offer a lot for not a lot of money, this was true but none of it was at all useful.

2: Join some relevant forums and ask questions about the affiliate programs you are interested in. People are only too happy to help and you will get some good honest feedback both good and bad.

3: When you decide on a program give it time and if it doesn’t work straight away keep going. One of the biggest mistakes is to jump from program to program to find one that will work. As with any business it takes time to build and see results so stick with it and keep telling yourself what brought you to internet marketing.

4: Decide on a monthly budget and make sure you stick to it. With the ease of online credit card transactions you will often be tempted by amazing one time only offers, these are designed to get a snap decision from you.

5: Don’t keep checking your emails for sign ups. Firstly you will be disappointed if you dont have any and secondly you will be sent lots of emails offering you the world. Its very easy when you are down to try something else and this often invloves your credit card.

Thats my top five but the biggest piece of advice I have been given lately is to take the odd day off and don’t do anything, especially at times when you are down and nothing seems to be working. I did this recently and came back to five sign ups, the feeling was great and I went about my business with new vigour.

Is there such a thing as LAZY way to TRAFFIC?

Is there such a thing as LAZY way to TRAFFIC?

by: Max Clixel

Nowadays there are just too many people trying to give you something of a less (or no) value at a very high price. Why do you buy it? Why do they do it? Will they succeed?

And they question is not about information products. You see, there is a difference between price and value. You don’t buy a price, you buy a value. And if a value of a ebook or a book is ten times higher than itกs price youกve made a good deal, even if you paid $5000 for a book.

The question here is like this: many people are trying to give you information which they haven’t even tried. Theyกve probably heard it from someone, and started to spread a word. But that first person also haven’t tested this idea, but heard it from someone. And that one was just too lazy to test it and see that it doesn’t work at all.

Well, Iกve been in this situation many times. One person came to me and told that automatic link exchanges is a fantastic opportunity. I was too stupid and haven’t asked him if he tested this technique himself.

I have tried this and got the results. For sometime my site was climbing up in search engines, Iกve got about 1000 links in just 2 weeks. WooHoo! Yep? Too Early!

Some time passed and one of my sites started falling in search engines and I still can’t understand why. Maybe it was a penalization for linking to some page, maybe something else have happened, I don’t know. But the fact is later on my site left search engine listings. Well I have worked hard again and got it back, without automatic links anymore.

I don’t say that this type of linking is worthless. Maybe for someone it works, but for others don’t. What I am telling is test, try and analyze everything you hear from someone about some new (or even old) technique to do something really fast. Or some lazy and free way to do something.

Believe me if there is a lazy and free way to do something a lot of people have already tried it before. And some of them already succeeded. And started to spread a word. Ten times more people heard about it and came. Tested, it worked and started to spread a word.

Okay, now letกs imagine a car with a bumper. Pretty easy? Okay, letกs put a bumper sticker in there with a site address. Ahha! Ten days later few people came to the site. You told it to your friend and he also put a sticker on his car. Okay, people are still coming. Few years later half a city has bumper stickers with web addresses. Someone comes to you and tell: กHey! Wanna promote? Put a bumper sticker! It works!ก

You put a sticker. But.. Stickers are everywhere already and people don’t care about it anymore. Because there are a lot of people who used this free and lazy way for cheap sites with lots of banner links and no info.

So people just don’t care about stickers, cause itกs something everyone can do. And itกs have already been done by millions by the time you hear about that. Even if you invented it. Information nowadays spreading so fast that your invention could have been already invented a year ago.

What to do about all this? Try to create new things out of what you already know. Try to invent! Try not to use easy and lazy techniques everyone is telling you about.

Love Of Reading Can Predict Your Online Success

Love Of Reading Can Predict Your Online Success

by: Rebecca Gilbert

When I was a very small child, I discovered that I had a love for reading. There was nothing better then spending an entire afternoon engrossed in a good novel. Reading for me was a pleasure, and magically transported me all over the world. My love of reading from an early age sharpened my vocabulary skills, my spelling, and my ability to learn, without me even realizing it.

Up until the time that I had decided to start a home based business on the internet, I didn’t feel that my love of reading played a role towards increasing my finances…how wrong I was.

When I started a home business on the internet, I knew absolutely nothing about network marketing, advertising, building websites, search engine optimization, tax deductions, or the millions of other things needed to run a successful business from your home. And the affiliate program that I had signed up for provided me a mentor who was basically nonessential towards me being successful and moving up the ranks.

Although the program that I had signed up for provided all kinds of training material, I didn’t find it to be in a logical step by step order and became very confused at where I was to begin and what my ultimate goal was to be.

Through much trial and error, I had given up on someone helping me and decided that if I was going to be successful, it was going to be up to me whether I succeeded or failed. At that point I returned to my roots and my love of reading. I started watching the people who were successful online and started reading their articles on how they got there. I started visiting various online and webmaster forums also. You would be surprised how much free information is out there if you just take the time to look for it and read. People who have made a fortune on the internet are only too happy to share their experience and knowledge with you.

From that point, I started immitating the steps that they had taken, and before long, I had created a successful online business of my own without any help from anyone besides the webmasters who had decided to post free information on their websites.

I recently started creating an easy to follow tutorial for my own affiliates and the response has been positively overwhelming, and has taken my business to new heights. http://www.101homebusiness.org/tutorial.html

If you have a love for reading, I can already predict your online success. Even without a mentor, you can create a successful business from your home by simply reading.

Best wishes for you future success and prosperity!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Gilbert
