Should You Hire a Famous Writer or Write Your Own

Should You Hire a Famous Writer or Write Your Own Articles?

by: Bill Platt

Proven and Exceptional ClickThrough Results

Testing has proven again and again that promotional articles generate more clickthrough traffic than standard ezine advertising. And it is much cheaper than standard ezine advertising, even if you are paying someone else to write and distribute your articles for you.

Promotional articles that are distributed with freereprint rights get published regularly in ezines and on websites and the results are longterm. Both publication outlets generate results, although both outlets generate different patterns of traffic to your site.

Creating Content

Either you know that you are capable of writing your own articles or you feel that you might need to hire a ghostwriter to help you with your task.

If you need a ghostwriter to help you create articles to promote your program, there are literally dozens of companies and hundreds of freelance writers out there that can help you complete your task.

Tips for Selecting Your Ghostwriter

One of my clients asked me the other day whether they should use their own inhouse writer to develop their articles or whether they should hire a famous writer to write their articles for them.

That is a good question. It depends on how many articles you will want to have created for you.

If you plan on creating fewer than ten articles, it might make more sense to hire an already famous, professional writer. So long as your famous writer is known for the type of content you want to have created, then your famous writer will help you get a strong running start in that they already have a good reputation in the field you want your articles written.

If your famous writer is not known in your field, then it does not matter whether you use the famous writer, your inhouse writer, or if you create a pen name for a fictional writer.

Gambling on the Long Term

If your intent is to have more than ten articles created, then it is my suggestion that you should either use your inhouse writer using his or her real name or create a pen name for your inhouse writer.

Whether you use the writer*s real name or a pen name, your decision should be made upon your confidence in your inhouse writer. Sure, you can count on their skills or you would not be considering using their work. The real question you must ask yourself is how long you feel that the inhouse writer will remain in your employment.

There is always a chance that your business will be built on the name of someone who goes to another job, taking his or her name recognition with him or her to the other employer. Using your writer*s real name or a pen name is always a gamble. Weigh all of the factors well before making your decision.

If It Were My Business

If I ran a brickandmortar business in a very competitive marketplace where personalities can shine brighter than the home office, then I would strongly consider using my inhouse writer and providing him or her with a fictional pen name. There is no sense in building a name that will go on to promote your competition.

Manifesting the *Power of Seven*

If you have plans to develop more than ten articles for the promotion of your business, then it does not matter if your writer is already famous in your field.

I am sure that you have heard about the *Power of Seven.*

Many research companies have studied the question of how many times a business must be seen before the customer has confidence enough to spend money with the business.

The research has been conclusive. Seven is the magic number. Once a potential customer has heard of a business seven times, the business has rose above the first major hurdle in attracting the potential customer to their business. After a potential customer has heard of a business seven times, then the potential customer is much more likely to trust the business enough to spend their money with the business.

The *Power of Ten* in Publishing

A writer is very much like a business, and a publisher is very much like a customer. The *Power of Seven* plays an important role in getting the writer*s work published.

However, we cannot count on seven promotional articles to bridge the trust gap with the publisher. While publishers will see most of your articles, as they are made available for publication, usually they will not see seven articles in seven distributions.

Publishers are busy people and they do not check for new articles daily. But, publishers do check for new articles regularly as they need to continuously find materials for publication.

The goal is to send out ten articles to get seven articles seen and read by publishers. Once the publisher reads the seventh article, if the quality of the articles had been good, then the publisher will trust the value of the articles created by the writer.

More Figures Concerning Promotional Article Success

Ironically, the fact that the publisher has seen articles by a particular writer seven times is often good enough to get the writer published. The publisher only needs to read one or two good quality articles by the writer to cement the trust they will have in the writer.

Once the publisher has come to the decision that a writer is good and provides information important to their readers, the publisher will always notice the writer*s name as they are browsing for the next article that they will publish.

With my business, I have been distributing articles for my clients since early 2000. Any writer who has permitted me to submit articles for them for the length of six months remains to be one of my clients. Why do you think that is?

I believe it is because six months worth of article submissions whether done weekly, biweekly or monthly has enabled my client*s to bridge the *Power of Seven* with the publishers and webmasters who receive the articles that I distribute.

Some who distribute weekly cross the *Power of Seven* bridge well before the six months is up and they reaped fast rewards for their hyperdistribution schedule.

Publishers & Webmasters Are the Gateways to Buyers

With my service, I am able to get your articles into the mailboxes of more than 12,000 publishers and webmasters looking for good quality content.

If only 25 publishers with an average of 5,000 readers each reprint an article, then 125,000 potential buyers could read the average article. Add to that fact that several of my client*s get published in ezines that reach more than 700,000 readers, and my clients can reach nearly one million buyers with a single article.

The *Power of Seven* Could Make YOU Famous!

I always suggest that if you are doing more than ten articles, you should use your inhouse writer*s name or a fictional pen name. The reason I say this is that after ten articles, you will be strongly on the road to becoming famous yourself. Once the name used to promote your business has become famous, and then your business will continue to reap the rewards for that famous name for years to come.

Paint a picture of what your product or service will do for them and then anticipate and answer all of their questions and doubts before they have a chance raise them.
Many books on copywriting have been written. They can guide you and teach you to be a better writer than you are now mostly by getting you to avoid making a gross faux pas thereby making your ad copy acceptable or passible.
For the most part, however, if you are not a good writer, you probably never will be.
You can face this reality in one of two ways. You can tear your hair out and expend valuable time and energy trying to do what you cannot or you can get help not book help professional help from someone with the know how, expertise, experience and the talent to write compelling, effective ad copy.

Promote With Simple กFolksyก HowTo Articles!

Promote With Simple กFolksyก HowTo Articles!

by: Ron Knowlton

When it comes to article writing, not everyone is a Dave Barry or even a Bob Leduc or a Kevin Nunley for that matter (three great article writers, by the way).

But really, thatกs okay.

There are simple yet effective articles you can use on your web site or send out (even if you aren’t a great writer) that can still work for you!

Here are three simple ideas:

1. A simple กfolksyก howto advice article will always pull in readers.

You don’t need to be a great writer!

Just write the way you talk!

You don’t need a long article either. One writer only provides three short tips in each article he writes (usually each tip is only one paragraph or so in length). And still he is able to get these short articles published.

Sprinkle these articles liberally on your web site. Or send them out to article announcement lists where newsletter publishers can see them and maybe reprint them in their newsletters.

For a list of article announcement lists, just type in กarticle announcementก or กarticle submissionก into your favorite search engine. It should return a pretty good list!

2. An honest yet กcontroversialก opinion will draw in readers.

You have to be careful with this approach however, because you may alienate some who would be your customers (now that they hate that terrible article you wrote saying those terrible things!).

Could be, though, that you attract more customers than you alienate and your กcontroversialก article proves to be a great hit (and sales puller as well).

And maybe it even pulls in some free publicity (don’t laugh it could happen newspapers, TV reporters, and even magazine feature writers are always looking for something unique or different!

3. Top 10 lists are still very popular.

Write a one sentence introduction and then present your top ten list.

Could be the 10 most unique ways people use your product.

Or … could be the 10 most common ways people use your product.

Or … how about the 10 least likely places where you would use your product.

Come up with a top 10 list with 10 unique or even offbeat ideas, and people will read them!

And there you have it how to write a great article even if you’re not the best writer on the internet!

Blending Colors

Blending Colors

by: Nash Ville

When you are familiar with software applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Flash and other drawing programs, I know you are also very much familiar with the swatches. Swatches contain selection of different colors that you can use during the creation of your web design, graphic design, and animation. Know what, we have a new innovation in these swatches. This is the socalled Color Blender.

According to the blog entitled ขColor Blenderข which was posted by Neil last October 27, 2004 at www.eightlines.com, the author mentioned that this Color Blender allows you to take two colors and see blends of up to 10 different ones from which you can get their HTML Hex codes.

How can you do it? It’s actually as simple as 123. The following procedures were also mentioned in the said article. First, you need to pick a color value format, input two valid CSS color values in the format you chose, and pick the number of midpoints youกd like to see. During this step, the palette will show the colors you input as well as the requested number of midpoint colors and the values of those colors. All numbers are rounded to the nearest integer. When you click on a square in the กwaterfallก display, it will fill in the appropriate value for whichever input is highlighted. And, when you switch between value formats, it will translate whatever values are in place. Clicking on the กClearก button removes all values and colors, but does not change the current value format.

With this, graphic art professionals and web developers can now experiment more in the color combinations in their projects thus, making them more creative and innovative in their line of work. I would like to commend the programmers of this simple yet so important program. More power!

How to Negotiate Rates with a Freelance Copywritin

How to Negotiate Rates with a Freelance Copywriting Consultant

by: Dina Giolitto

Lots of people who seek out my copywriting services are concerned about money. Rightfully so. I’m a small business owner too, and I know what it is to have that doityourself mindset. (It’s exhausting!) But entrepreneurs like you and I often overlook the very reason to contract a job out in the first place. Which is: the terms of the contract and the amount of money spent are totally controlled by you!

The contracted project affords a winwin situation. This is not You vs. a Corporation; this is just an individual with a need, and a single service provider who can answer that need. Who wouldn’t jump at the chance to negotiate a terrific deal on a job that’s done to their exact specifications?

My guess is, the biggest reason people shy away from contracted jobs is the same reason people don’t do a lot of things: Fear of the Unfamiliar. Allow me to familiarize you with the ways of the freelance writing world. Here’s how to curb copywriting costs while getting the most bang for your buck!

Thoroughly research prospective candidates for the job. Seek out four or five different writers, carefully examine their work and ask about their qualifications. Request samples from each writer. Check for accuracy, language mastery and appropriate use of tone. Compare rates. You may discover, to your delight, that there are some really talented ขnewish writersข who will offer you a much better deal than some old veterans out there!

Consider hiring someone who has never written for your field before. Yes, you heard right. So many people shy away from a writer who hasn’t done exactly what they’re looking for. Unless you’re in a really specialized area, there is no reason why a wellrounded writer can’t easily adopt to your tone and style of communication. Let’s say you were looking for someone to write a manual on กhow to get through your first year as a corporate professional.ก You find a writer who’s written a slew of great articles and a smattering of ebooks, but never an exact match of your project. Here are three reasons to hire her: 1. She’s an excellent writer, 2. It’s likely she’s worked for a corporation at one time or another, and 2. She’s probably willing to offer a reduced rate because she’d love to add this project to her repetoire.

Fill in all the details beforehand. Give the copywriter a project overview, some background information on your business, and examples of past projects or a competitor’s work that you’d like to emulate. Make sure you thoroughly describe the habits and attitudes of your target audience. Why do this? It’s the quickest way to help her understand what you need… and the quicker she grasps what you’d like to have her create, the faster the job will get done to your satisfaction. The faster the job gets done, the sooner you’re on your way to making big money with your advertising effort!

Expect to haggle. Iกm astonished that so many people just turn away from a potentially great working relationship because they’re afraid to make their budgetary needs known. Here’s a little secret about independent contractors: we’re always going to try for the highest going rate we can get. Why? We expect YOU to haggle! Shopping for freelance services is a little like going to a peddler’s market. There’s no big scary corporation to call the shots and set the prices in stone. It’s just you and me playing Let’s Make a Deal. So don’t be intimidated by a freelancer’s ขadvertised rates.ข You’re always welcome to come back with a counteroffer. That’s what we expect you to do!

If you’re not sure of a copywriter’s abilities, give him a few small jobs to start. This is one of the greatest advantages of hiring a contractor. You can test him out with a few projects, and if you like his style, hire him back to do more work. If you don’t care for the way he handles your projects, you’re free to seek help elsewhere. What are some small jobs you can offer as a trialrun? A press release, a company tagline, a corporate mission statement, a newspaper ad, some headlines for your website.

Offer your writer a weekly rate. A project here, a project there… boy, those hourly fees add up fast! If you know there’s a crunch coming up and you have a trusted writer in mind, contract the job out กby the week.ก Ask the writer if she’s willing to devote 40 hours a week to researching and writing marketing materials for your company. Define her expected responsibilities ahead of time, agree on a set fee for five consecutive days of work, and make sure she’s easily accessible by phone and email. Most freelancers are willing to accept a much lower rate of pay if they know they’re guaranteed a steady gig. Get it in writing, and bam, you’ve hired your first temp and saved a ton of money in the process!

Hire someone to ขclean upข your written materials. Don’t have the money to spend on a fullscale ad campaign? Do the work yourself, but have a seasoned writer critique it for you. Ask the copywriter what his proofreading rates are, and then send a few drafts his way for a quick revamp. You won’t believe how much better your ads can look when you spend just a few dollars on an expert proofreader.

Ask the copywriter if she’ll give you a reduced rate for just one written draft. Lots of writers factor multiple draft revisions into their fees. But what if they knew going in that they only had to write one draft? The price would likely be considerably lower because of significantly less time spent on the work. When it comes to copy, do you like to ขhave it your way,ข same as your Burger King? Then a singledraft copywriter might be the way to go. You’ll save a ton of money on copy revisions, and you can use what the writer creates and กmake it your own.ก

Get a written estimation of the time it will take to complete a project. What’s your biggest fear about copywriting jobs that are charged by the hour? That the writer will spend hours longer than you expected on it, and as a result, charge you an arm and a leg. Eliminate that fear by asking for an estimated project time upfront. The more clarification, the better. Don’t just say, ขI need 4 pages of website copy writtenข and expect her to know how long it will take. Instead, map out the work plan. Will she be responsible for research? Project outlines? Phone interviews? Multiple draft revisions? Knowing the process will help her figure out a fair price for the work. In the end, you’ll both feel more comfortable settling on a price.

If there ever was a doubt in your mind about hiring a freelance copywriter, hopefully this article will allay your fears! Contracting work out to a specialist is one of the best things you can do for your business and for your sanity. Negotiating with another sole proprietor is actually quite easy, and affords you the greatest control over project terms and spending. More often than not, other entrepreneurs are looking for the same things you are: intelligent, honest people willing to collaborate talent. So, what are you waiting for? Hire a writer who can help you grow your business!

Public Relations Strategies: Announcing News on a

Public Relations Strategies: Announcing News on a Press Tour

by: Richard Cunningham

Gaining news coverage on a successful press tour requires planning, preparation, and follow up.

Under the right circumstances, physically traveling to the media on a press tour is a great way to contact multiple media outlets. Press tours work especially well when having something physical to show a writer – a new, easily demonstrated product, for example.

If the writer can interact with the product, if the product performs as promised, and if the product has not been extensively covered in the media, the chances of gaining coverage are high.

In the audio book, ขSound Advice on Public Relations,ข author Susan Misukanis says getting press meetings in the first place is the challenge. ขMaking contact with writers and editors to schedule a facetoface meeting can be more challenging than getting them to run your press release.ข

When you make direct contact with them, be prepared with a crisp message. ขYou’ll want to present a very concise pitch that outlines who you are, what you want to show them, and why seeing your new product is better than reading about it,ข says Misukanis.

Once you get the meeting, prepare for it as you would an interview. ขKnow what types of details the writer is looking for and share that information throughout your demonstration,ข says Misukanis. ขDevelop a onesheet leave behind that overviews the problem your product solves, key features of the product, and how this product is different from other products in your space.ข

Getting maximum print acreage is the goal, so also be sure to leave print and digital photos of a great product shot.

After the press tour follow up is important. ขEven while you’re still on the road, be sure to follow up with any open questions the writer poses during your meeting,ข says Misukanis. ขAlso send them a brief note thanking them for their time. Then follow up as appropriate to find out if they need additional information and whether or not they plan to cover your product.ข

Susan Misukanis offers advice on public relations strategies each week in the free audio newsletter from What’s Working in Biz, http://www.whatsworking.biz/full_story.asp?ArtID=92

Texturing and Lighting in Discreet 3ds max 6

Texturing and Lighting in Discreet 3ds max 6

by: Nashville

Global illumination tugs along cool products for the modern people. They are geared toward hard core production and fill just about any visualization, animation and visual effects’ needs.

Texturing and Lighting in Discreet 3ds max 6 by George Maestri as published in Computer Graphics World, covers everything needed to texture, light, and render realistic scenes in 3ds max. The title steps you through designing materials, mapping textures, and lighting scenes as well as creating shaders, lights, and cameras for both Mental Ray and Max’s Scanline renderer. Advanced topics include complex mapping, multipass rendering, caustics, and global illumination.

GEORGE MAESTRI, as written in rubberbug.com, in which he is the president, has worked as a writer, director, and producer in both traditional and computer animation for such companies as Nickelodeon, Warner Brothers, Disney, Comedy Central, Film Roman, Curious Pictures, MGM, ABC, CBS, and Fox, among others. He has written and edited several books and dozens of articles on computer animation for magazines such as Computer Graphics World, DV, Publish, and Digital Magic, among others.

Maestri also authored Splutterfishกs 3ds max Renderer. He writes: In addition to global illumination, Brazil can calculate the scattering of light within a room as well as the scattering of light through objects such as glass and water. Brazil can also calculate the scattering of light within a surface. Called subsurface scattering, this is terrific for materials that are only slightly transparent, such as marble, wax, and human skin. Brazil has its own camera, which mimics realworld cameras. The camera supports depth of field and even allows you to match the fstop of your realworld camera. Brazilกs custom lights can mimic all the standard 3ds max lights, but also add the ability to create area lights. Unlike 3ds maxกs lights, Brazilกs allow you to focus, and give you more robust options in calculating the falloff of a particular light source. Of course, the test of a renderer is its final output. The images I created with Brazil were excellent and highly realistic. Not only that, but I found it fairly easy to get decent results the first time I used the product. This renderer produces highly realistic images and would be excellent for anyone doing photoreal work.

Technology, really is taking us to a different level of technological advancement especially in the virtual space and digital world where a thin line separates reality from fantasy…More to expect in the coming years huh!

Multipurpose Postcards

Multipurpose Postcards

by: Mart Gil Abareta

When I was still a kid, my grandma always received postcards from our relatives from other countries. I was always fascinated by the photos that these postcards contain. They are printed in glossy paper and you can actually write your message to its recipients at its back. Postcards have been widely used as a means of communication. They are commonly sent during special occasions such as Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day, graduation, birthday and many more.

I know, even for once in your life, you also have received a postcard that made you smile and appreciate how beautiful the world really is. Why did I say this? Well, it’s because it’s always good to know that our distant loved ones still think of us and they can actually express that to us through the use of postcards. With a postcard, we also get to appreciate the world more because it features places which might be impossible for us to visit yet it’s being made possible by it.

Postcards for businesses, why not? In fact, postcards are actually one of the most effective and economical means to generate sales and profits for your company. If you’ll advertise a company’s product or service, they represent a cheaper and stronger alternative for photographic reprints. If you’re reselling postcards in a gift shop environment, they offer lowcost impulse sales appeal. And another thing, if you’re doing any type of direct mail campaign, the costeffectiveness of postcards is incomparable.

Because of the remarkable advantages that postcards do offer, printing companies that specialize in the creation and production of postcards also increased. In the Internet, when you use the different search engines and search for the said companies, you’ll find lots of them. They only vary in their printing quotes and of course, the quality of the printed postcards. But you’ll get the chance to choose the best postcard printer where you can also personalize them. What a great deal from these printing companies!

Indeed, postcards offer lots pf advantages. Aside from the fact that they bridge the gap among relatives, friends and loved ones who are apart, they also serve economic purposes to business and organizations. They are really an effective way to communicate one’s feelings, emotions and sentiments. Another great thing about postcards is that they’re affordable. Affordability and effectiveness are what make postcards still very much indemand until now.

An Extended Christmas Animation

An Extended Christmas Animation

by: Nashville

According to the blog entitled ขAnimationข which was posted by Neil last December 2, 2004 at www.eightlines.com, someone spent way too long on a Christmas Flash animation. You can actually view the animation at http://www.tongcom.co.kr/dingani_13.htm. It was definitely enjoyable and entertaining! The animator used the song ขLast Christmasข by Beatles as the background for the animated Christmas music video.

I must say that the one who made this animation has already mastered the Flash software. For your information, Flash is a powerful software program that can be used to create animated movies that are small in file size, load quickly, and incorporate user interaction and sound. Apparently, it may appear to be a relatively simple program because of its few tools compared to other software programs. However, a world of complex authoring structures, advanced techniques, and sophisticated effects begins to unfold as one learns more about Flash.

Regarding the creator of this animation, he certainly has a good combination of images, graphics and sounds in this masterpiece. He must have used his creativity and imagination meticulously in this animation. I was really impressed with the way it was created. It’s very fascinating.

With what I’ve seen, I’m looking forward to see your other creations, too. I hardly find experts in this software application and whenever I do, I’m always impressed with their works of art. You’ll get two thumbs up from me.

To the creator of this Christmas animation, I only have three words for you. ขYou definitely rock!ข Keep it up, dude! Godspeed!

I became part of our school publication staff. I started as a news writer and photojournalist of the school paper. Soon, I was appointed editorinchief. It was during this time when I realized that I needed to be more efficient in writing because duty called for it. I should say that this event in my life opened me wholly to the wonderful world of writing.

With all these, I can’t say that I have mastered writing because of these writing experiences. I believe that this craft is also a continuous learning process. I’ve been working hard to become amore efficient and competent in writing, most especially now that I’m working as a content writer for this company. I’m doing articles for printing companies, medical sites, legal sites, and many more.

How to Effectively Hire a Ghost Writer

How to Effectively Hire a Ghost Writer

by: Matt Bacak

In todayกs busy world, whether your business is large or small, it is easy to become over whelmed with daytoday tasks. Suddenly you realize that you need to update your web presence content or you need to have a processes and procedures manual onhand in case of key personnel being out. It just becomes too much to handle! Or perhaps you need to produce articles to promote your business, but writing simply isn’t your forte. What do you do? Itกs simple; hire a ghost writer to assist you in performing your writing tasks.

Professional, wellqualified ghost writers can be contacted via any number of freelance project posting sites such as www.guru.com or www.elance.com, and others. These freelance project posting sites permit a buyer who needs writing projects completed, while maintaining all rights to the material upon payment, to post a project description and allow ขWork for Hireข freelance writers to bid on your project. You can set the time length during which bidding is permitted and even request samples of the writersก work for review.

When posting a freelance writing project for bid on any project posting site, you should strive to communicate facts clearly so that service providers can bid accurately on your project.

Establish exactly what length, in number of words or pages, you are requesting to be written for you.

Define exactly the content and purpose of your requested project. Some examples of content types are web content, search engine optimized web content, magazine article, resume, processes and procedures manual, howto report, ebook, or white paper. The type of writer that will bid on one type of job may not be well suited to another type of project.

Define format requirement. These requirements include exactly what format you want the data should be delivered to you as a final product such as MS Word, plain text, or rich text format.

Determine precisely the deadline for delivery of your final products. If you have an exact need date for your material, state that date in your project description. Those writers who can not meet your deadline will simply not waste your time reading their bids.

Communicate any other requirements. You may want content to have bulleted points, or to have margins of 1.5 inches on every side. Any requirements that you desire in your final product should be stated in your project description. Most freelance writers, upon accepting your project award, copy your exact project description into their information files to ensure they are working to your specifications.

The online freelance project posting systems allow you to review the portfolios of the writers who are members of that system. You can select based on criteria such as previous feedback, length of time on the system and other factors to view a selection of service providersก information. You can then select a few service providers which appear to fit your needs and invite them to bid on your project, if you wish.

Keep in mind when reviewing service providersก feedback reports that no one makes everyone happy all of the time. If a 5.0 is a perfect rating, and a writer has over 20 projects on which they have received feedback, you can expect at least one client to have not given even an exceptional writer a perfect score. Be realistic and look for service providers with a feedback rating near the top as well as those at the top of the ratings.

Once bids have been placed on your project, review those bids. It is wise to identify which service providers bidding on the project included in their response your exact project requirements. If you stated that you desire 30 articles written and the bid stated the provider will write 15 articles for you, it is clear that they did not read the project description. That kind of inattention to detail when bidding can indicate a general lack of attention and your project deserves to be treated with care. A good service provider will tell you in their bid exactly what services they will provide for how much money and within what timeframe. If those key items are not contained in the bid, move on and review the ones that have clearly responded to your request.

If you request samples of work from the service providers bidding on your project, you can expect to receive anywhere from one to two articles per bid to as many as ten articles attached to bids. Read at least one sample from each bid to learn about that writerกs style and tone. If the sample style fits with what you have in mind and their bid reflected care and precision in bidding, you should add that writer to your ขshort listข.

As soon as you have honed the respondents down to three or four bids that are from reliable providers, choose based on price and turnaround time that best suits your personal needs. There are many, many wonderful freelance writers working in the global marketplace of the Internet today. Let them relieve you from some of your job stress by writing documentation and content for you!
