What 15 Years in the Network Marketing Industry Taught Me

by: Greg Aldrich

Just whisper the words ขnetwork marketingข and you’re bound to get an emotional response from your listeners.

Many people are still saddled with antiquated ideas of how the old multilevel companies were run in the 60’s and 70’s. Remember? Those days when cars had to give way to products stockpiled in your garage and family and friends were suddenly afraid to visit you.

But the industry has grown past that caterpillar stage.

Added to this misconception is a common fear of failure. There are many people who in their quest for a homebased business opportunity try network marketing and fail at it. Without questioning why, they have just avoided the industry ever since. Having ‘survived’ the industry for over 15 years I’ll like to share with you my #1 secret for making it big … really BIG in network marketing.

The secret is choosing a team with an experienced coach who will teach, guide and motivate you towards success.

Of course there are other factors such as the financial backing of the company, timing, the compensation plan and marketing a consumable product. But if you are not properly trained and motivated during those early months you are almost doomed to failure.

Just think about it, every professional business person or athlete has a coach. Why should it be different in network marketing? I wouldn’t have survived as a network marketer if it wasn’t for the gifted leaders that I was privileged to work under and to learn from.

There are many business owners who will invest over $50,000 in a franchise and still pay a business consultant a 5figure retainer for advice so that their business succeeds. In network marketing, you can start your business for less than $500 and literally choose the coach or leader who will train you for FREE! Of course this will involve doing a little background check on the team leader you choose to work with but it’s time well spent.

Here are a few pointers that will help you when seeking out the ‘correct’ coach:

1. Make sure that he or she has a proven track record.

Just as the cream always floats to the top of the milk so a gifted leader will also prove his or her worth in the results produced. Generally speaking, you will not rise higher than your leader, so know how high you want to reach and find a coach who can get you there.

2. Go with someone who has been in the industry for many years.

Gaze up into the night sky and you’ll see an occasional shooting star. It burns bright and then disappears. This may be exciting to watch but only for a short moment. You want a leader who will be like the northern star—bright and steady. Those who are successful network marketers are people who stay for the long haul. Many people give up too quickly and never reap the harvest.

You want to choose a leader who have experienced some bumps in the road and can now be selective in choosing a company that is most likely to remain out of the MLM graveyard.

3. Find someone who knows how to market.

Network marketing is just that: marketing through networking. An essential part of the equation therefore is the effective marketing of your business. Marketing can eat up a small budget very quickly. Therefore, you must know what works from what doesn’t work so that you can use your advertising dollars most effectively. The name of the game is maximum returns for your money. I mean, that is the whole idea behind network marketing—leverage. This translates into small effort and great gain.

Find someone who knows how to use the tools of the trade such as teleconferencing, voicemail, direct mail, the internet and broadcast media. This is a business so you have to treat it like one.

4. Find a leader who studies the industry.

Anyone who claims to be a professional will subscribe to magazines in his area of expertise, attend seminars to keep abreast of what’s happening and keep his pulse on the industry. This is the only way that trends can be determined and what is working for the competition be uncovered. To simply concentrate on your own company and be blinded to what others are doing is narrow and myopic.

There are a lot of lessons to be learned from other network marketers that can be incorporated into one’s own business.

5. Look for a leader who has people skills.

There is no escaping it. Even with all the new technology at our fingertips, network marketing is a people business. If a leader doesn’t love people then it will show and recruits will know. Network marketing could qualify as part of the hospitality sector because so much of its success depends on empowering and affirming people.

So find a leader who will be respectful of your value as a person and not just as another number to add to his downline.

The right opportunity and company may be the vehicle to your success but an effective coach is like highoctane gas in the tank!

Profound Knowledge

Profound Knowledge

We all are on a quest for knowledge. Whether its information that will make our lives easier or just small packets of data that in a trivial way allows us to sort out กwhy things are the way they are on this planet.ก As intelligent beings we are constantly receiving and sorting information, in most instances, we are overwhelmed. Therefore, when relevant information arrives that is meaningful, concise and thought provoking, we have a tendency to reflect on this data for the principles and guidance that it offers. Here are seven insights that are worthy of the title Profound Knowledge.

1. LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES: R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

Respect is essential for effective leadership. Lack of respect will require a leader to work twice as hard to realize their objectives. Furthermore, leaders can’t be successful as disconnected individuals, no matter how great their individual expertise or potential is. To be an effective leader, you must have the support and respect of those you lead.

2. PARADIGMS: BREAKING THE MOLD

Paradigms are sets of rules and regs that establish the boundaries of what is currently believed to be possible within a given field. Therefore, our perceptions of reality, based on our paradigms, dramatically effect our business decisions. Likewise, we try to make future decisions by basing them on our current paradigms. Case in point, in 1968 Swiss watch makers had over 60% of the worldกs marketshare. By 1978, their dominance shrank to a mere 10%. What happened? The current paradigm had shifted and a new paradigm was born… It was the Swiss that first developed the quartz watch however they did nothing to protect their ideas and freely displayed the new quartz at world watch conferences. Seiko quickly capitalized on this new method of watch design and significantly enhanced their marketshare to become a world leader.

3. THE NEED FOR LONGTERM VISION: THE PELICAN BRIEF

The pelican catches fish by flying high over their unsuspecting victims then diving at a high rate of speed into the water to forcefully overcome their prey. Although a successful method, this process eventually leads to their demise. You see, diving from high altitudes damages their eyes and slowly breaks down other vital functions that allow for their success. Eventually, the pelican goes blind and is unable to fish at all.

4. WORD OF MOUTH MARKETING

Businesses have used word of mouth marketing for years. In the case of the liquor industry, it was not uncommon to have paid agents visit trendy bars, order the brand of choice (normally an unknown import) and strike up conversations with both barkeeps and customers in order to establish or talk up a cool image. In many cases it worked!

5. SUCCESS

Studies by Harvard, Stanford and the Carnegie Foundation suggest that success on the job depends 85 percent on people skills and only 15 percent on technical knowledge.

6. ORGANIZATIONS AND GEESE

Geese fly in a Vformation where each bird must take a turn at fighting the wind and being the leader. Each must know the common destination and choose the right course and speed. At any given moment each bird must be capable of leading all the others.

7. CREATIVITY

Creativity does not come from inspiration. Creativity comes from knowledge.

by: Terry Stewart

Vision

As the leader of your organisation you need to have drive. Drive for yourself so that your group can see and feel your drive and they will follow in your Footsteps. Imagine that you have two children a large mortgage to pay and not a lot of income coming in. Circumstance like that will give you the drive to Succeed through the bad times.

You also need to have persistence a good leader knows that you need to keep going . All to often people stop just as they are about to get some where they stop one yard in front of the finishing line. A true successful marketer will keep on until they achieve their goals.

There will be people out there who will criticise and knock you every turn you make. No one has ever attained success without first enduring a withering hail of criticism from friend and foe alike.

Another important trait to have is a positive attitude, When you are seen with a positive attitude it spreads through your organisation. You cannot have encourage Others If your thinking is pessimistic and downbeat. Positive thinking is essential for a leader.

It is very easy for leaders to fall into the trap of thinking people in their downline as Just tools or instruments to do with as they will. They would motivate the group far better by Showing some compassion. Compassion is the another trait needed for leaders in networking marketing. People tend to react better when shown a little encouragement as opposed to being relentlessly driven.

To get all your organisation pointing in the same direction at once you need to have a vision which can be shared by the whole group. The key to having a vision is to get your whole group believing in it and pulling in the same direction.
