The Pleasures Of a Luxury Watch

The Pleasures Of a Luxury Watch

by: Argentonio Vigilanza

Purchasing a luxury watch that is a good investment.

Many people consider luxury watches an extravagance. To them it makes little sense to spend thousands of dollars on a Rolex or a Cartier, when there are essential payments to be made. The same is true about cars. They say why spend 90,000 dollars on a brand new sports car when a sedan or a station wagon in 9,000 dollars would do just as well. After all, they both have four wheels, an engine, a steering wheel and a gas pedal and they take you where you have to go.

However, luxury watches are different! They serve many purposes. They are precision instruments that are finetuned for perfect accuracy, and give you the right time all the time. Thatกs their purpose, no doubt. But luxury watches adorn the stylish and fashionable wardrobe. Itกs a matter of style. Some people feel naked without a belt, others feel absolutely desolate and deserted without their luxury watches. And it is not about time only. Even if they are surrounded by scores of digital clocks, cell phones, microwaves and other timetelling devices they are ill at ease without their luxury watch.

Aside from their functionality and sharp looks, luxury watches also confer a sense of status on their wearers. A stunning Rolex or Breitling can denote great taste and class every bit as much as a Jaguar or Mercedes. In fact, with the premier foreign car manufacturers diluting their brands with 30,000dollar versions of their classic autos, one could argue that some luxury watches are a greater status symbol than some highend vehicles.

To buy a luxury watch you need a discerning eye. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, and only a true connoisseur can tell the difference. They have a flair for style and quality. They choose their watches with as much care as they would choose a home to live in. They compare brands, quality and prices. They consider various factors such as mechanisms, escapements, complications, dials and many more aesthetic factors like watch bands and bezels. They enjoy looking at various brands as much as they love buying the watch thatกs close to their heart.

So if you want to add some style to your life, think of buying a luxury watch. For one thing, itกs easier to carry around than a luxury car!

Proofreading for Profits

Proofreading for Profits

by: Roger C. Parker

How to avoid mistakes that undermine your credibility

You’re probably already familiar with the spell checker built into your software. Some work automatically as you type, others only run when you activate them.

Spell checking is just the start of your proofreading tasks. Don’t let simple grammatical errors, or text omissions, sabotage your message. Here are some things to check for that go beyond the capabilities of your software program’s spell checker.

But, spell checkers are not infallible! Know what yours checks—and what it doesn’t check. Does it check text imported from other programs? Does it flag words containing numbers?

Spell check limitations

Monitor your spell checker’s recommendations. Make sure each suggested replacement is a correctly spelled version of the original word, and not an inappropriate substitution. Doublecheck the spelling of proper nouns and industryspecific terms. Use care adding them to your custom spell check dictionary, or they will be misspelled forever!

Grammatical errors

Watch for homonyms—correctly spelled, but misused words—such as to, two, and too, or affect and effect. Most spell checkers are not context sensitive. Watch for singular nouns paired with plural verbs, and vice versa. Make sure you have used correct punctuation, like Em dashes (—) to indicate duration, instead of two hyphens ( ).

Check all dates, times, prices

Have someone else verify dates, times, and prices. It’s both costly and embarrassing to send out information that you have to immediately correct.

Pay particular attention to numbers. Transposed numbers, i.e., 1,324 instead of 1,234, etc., are very difficult to notice. Before submitting a proposal, posting web content or distributing a newsletter, call telephone numbers, visit web sites and send emails and faxes requesting return confirmation.

Make sure you have included all ordering information necessary for recipients to respond. Order your own product, to check autoresponder performance.

Widows and orphans

Check for subheads and the first lines of new paragraphs, isolated at the bottom of a column or page. Ideally, at least two lines of a new paragraph should appear together at the bottom of a column.

Likewise, edit or rewrite to eliminate word or sentence fragments isolated at the top of a new column or page.

Hyphenation

Check that you have not hyphenated headlines and subheads. These look awkward and are hard to read. Make sure body copy has been hyphenated. In justified text, i.e., lines of equal length, hyphenation eliminates awkward word spacing. In flushleft/raggedright text, (i.e., lines of unequal length), hyphenation eliminates alternating long and short lines.

Doublecheck hyphenation to make sure that words like ขtherapistข have not been split into ขthe rapist.ข Use nonbreaking hyphens to keep proper nouns from hyphenating.

Word breaks

Check that you have used nonbreaking spaces to keep first names and last names, or dates, together on one line.

Working links

When creating Adobe Acrobat PDF files, check that all links perform properly. Just because URLs and email addresses appear in blue and are underlined doesn’t mean that the links are working properly! Recheck links when you edit your original publication file and create a new PDF.

Updating information

When publishing a newsletter, check that issue date and/or issue number information are correct. Doublecheck headers, footers, captions, and pull quotes.

Formatting and spacing

Check for correct headline, subhead and body copy text styles. Watch out for short paragraphs that should be formatted as subheads. It’s very easy to inadvertently change styles during editing. Watch for extra spaces between words and sentences. It is also easy to inadvertently add unwanted space when copying and pasting text. Use Find and Replace to replace two spaces with one.

Duplicate or missing text

Read text out loud to locate awkward or redundant words and phrases as well as omitted words that your mind inserts because it ขknows what you meant.ข Watch for overflow text in text frames at the ends of articles. Often, hidden text is only indicated by a relatively small icon.

Gotta Know Now Software Watches Web Pages For You

Gotta Know Now Software Watches Web Pages For You

by: Bill Peifer

Too many days I found myself constantly checking the same financial news web pages for any news about the companies I was currently invested in. Between clicking on these web pages and constantly clicking on other financial web pages to obtain stock quotes, I was driving myself crazy and wasting a lot of time that belonged to my employer. After all he does not pay me to surf the web. But if I didn’t keep track of investment information, I could loose too much money. I thought there had to be a solution other than taking Vallium. Why should I watch web pages for stuff when my computer should be able to do this for me? This is when I discovered a software program called Gotta Know Now.

As their home page explains, กGotta Know Now watches HTML web pages for your information by continuously downloading and inspecting each web page you specify for the text you specify. A web page is just a file containing HTML text, therefore Gotta Know Now is really downloading and reading an HTML file looking for your textก.

I came to understand that this program could only detect changes that are part of the HTML text, but that was all I needed. Most of the web pages I wanted to watch were pure HTML pages (no Java etc. involved).

After seeing a seal of approval from PC Magazine, I decided to try this software. The first pleasant surprise was that the program was immediately easy to use. A toolbar with eight large buttons provided all the user interface I needed. One button allowed me to enter web pages and another button allowed me to enter text such as my stock names and dollar amounts. I realized that this was probably a limited user interface, but the fact that it got the job done without wasting my energy on a learning curve was all I cared about.

The program worked as advertised. I was alerted with an audible alarm when my stocks appeared in a press release at Yahooกs financial web site. I soon discovered that the program could also email you these alerts. This was great because now I could run the program on my home PC using my full time broadband internet. My employer could not accuse me in any way of constantly being on the internet at work.

Another one of those large toolbar buttons allows you to change the watch mode to กJust Tell Me If The Web Pages I Specify Changeก. As their home page explains กGotta Know Now can also be set up to notify you when any changes or updates occur on the web pages you specify. It does this by continuously downloading and comparing the HTML file with the initial HTML file recorded at the start of the watch session. If the HTML file changes Gotta Know Now notifys youก. I soon had a use for this operating mode, I could now watch my Web Siteกs HTML log file for visitors. I subscribe to one of those services that provide you with an HTML log file that updates with visitor information everytime someone clicks on one of your web pages. Instead of constantly checking this HTML log file with my internet browser, I let Gotta Know Now watch it for updates. It is a lot of fun to know immediately when someone visits your site.

DVD ROMs

DVD ROMs

by: John Gibb

DVD CD ROMs have become predominantly the most used CD drive for desktop and notebook computers. They are very reliable and now come as a standard in most computers. If you are looking for a laptop then make sure it has a DVD ROM, this will give you extra speed for normal Cds, and you will be able to watch your favourite DVDs while you travel.
I often sit up late watching DVDs on my laptop after a hard working day.
If you are interested in Desktop computers, then the DVD drive will enable you to watch your favourite DVDs on your monitor. I currently have a 21inch monitor and a 5.1 computer surround kit. This brings DVDs to life and acts just like a home cinema system, however the quality is even better.
Most DVD ROMs will come in speeds ranging from 4 to 10 speed. This is more than adequate to watch the latest DVDs, play the latest games, and use and install the latest software. Normal CDs can only perform at a certain speed, and it is a lot lower than what the DVD ROM offers. I hope you have a better understanding of why DVD ROMs are now used more than a normal CD nowadays. It is basically all part of bringing a home entertainment system at the best quality closer to everyone.

For All Those People Who Struggle With Benefits an

For All Those People Who Struggle With Benefits and Features

by: Keith Longmire

For Everyone Who Has Ever Struggled Sorting Out Benefits From Features กSWAT Them!ก

SWAT is not actually an acronym. It is a compaction of the question กso what?ก

You see, one of the biggest problems that even experienced copywriters and marketers fall into is being clear on what benefits their product or service actually delivers to their customers.

SWAT provides the solution.

Here is how it works:

Take a piece of paper. Divide it into columns one headed features and one headed benefits.

Under the features column list all the features that come to mind.

Under the benefits column list all the benefits you deliver. (Don’t worry about neatness there will not be a onetoone correspondence between features and benefits)

Now, get yourself back in your customers’ mindset. Take each feature in turn and ask yourself กSO WHAT?ก

And keep on asking the question until you can’t think of any sensible, benefit oriented, answer.

Do this for every feature in your list

Now go back and repeat the process for every benefit you originally listed

It is pretty certain that the same benefits will occur many times over as you run through this exercise. Thatกs fine. These are the ultimate benefits you have been looking for. These are the benefits you will กsellก to your customer.

An example

I wear a pretty cheap and tacky diver’s watch. Its features include:

water proof to 50m (that’s about 164 feet)

accurate to 1 second per year

tells the time in 2 time zones

dual analogue and digital display

shock proof

stop watch

back light

day, month date function

5 year battery life

Now for certain prospects this list of features is pretty powerful on its own. Principally young men who like to dazzle their friends with the latest gadgets and gizmos.

But letกs try to figure out some marketable benefits for a wider audience.

กWater proof to 50mก

So what?

You can wear the watch while diving

So what?

You can be sure it is waterproof enough for all daytoday use

So what?

You can put the watch on and forget it no matter what you are doing

So what?

Accurate time keeping anytime, anyplace.

So what?

???

Your thought patterns would obviously be different to mine. But I am now stuck. The question กSo What?ก doesn’t lead me to another statement. No matter. I am pretty happy with the last couple above. Either of them talks to me of the real benefits the watch could bring.

Now I would need to go away and do the same thing for all of the other features. When I first did this exercise I ended up with over 120 benefits (and this for something that is definitely pretty cheap and tacky). I am not going to do that here again.

The benefits that kept repeating were the go anywhere, do anything, super accurate timekeeping.

I was able to produce 30 plus benefit driven headlines. And I had no difficulty in sorting out the benefits from the features.

And all in a little over an hour.

Seems a pity that I don’t actually sell watches.

Profound Knowledge

Profound Knowledge

by: Peter Andersen

Profound Knowledge

We all are on a quest for knowledge. Whether its information that will make our lives easier or just small packets of data that in a trivial way allows us to sort out กwhy things are the way they are on this planet.ก As intelligent beings we are constantly receiving and sorting information, in most instances, we are overwhelmed. Therefore, when relevant information arrives that is meaningful, concise and thought provoking, we have a tendency to reflect on this data for the principles and guidance that it offers. Here are seven insights that are worthy of the title Profound Knowledge.

1. LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES: R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

Respect is essential for effective leadership. Lack of respect will require a leader to work twice as hard to realize their objectives. Furthermore, leaders can’t be successful as disconnected individuals, no matter how great their individual expertise or potential is. To be an effective leader, you must have the support and respect of those you lead.

2. PARADIGMS: BREAKING THE MOLD

Paradigms are sets of rules and regs that establish the boundaries of what is currently believed to be possible within a given field. Therefore, our perceptions of reality, based on our paradigms, dramatically effect our business decisions. Likewise, we try to make future decisions by basing them on our current paradigms. Case in point, in 1968 Swiss watch makers had over 60% of the worldกs marketshare. By 1978, their dominance shrank to a mere 10%. What happened? The current paradigm had shifted and a new paradigm was born… It was the Swiss that first developed the quartz watch however they did nothing to protect their ideas and freely displayed the new quartz at world watch conferences. Seiko quickly capitalized on this new method of watch design and significantly enhanced their marketshare to become a world leader.

3. THE NEED FOR LONGTERM VISION: THE PELICAN BRIEF

The pelican catches fish by flying high over their unsuspecting victims then diving at a high rate of speed into the water to forcefully overcome their prey. Although a successful method, this process eventually leads to their demise. You see, diving from high altitudes damages their eyes and slowly breaks down other vital functions that allow for their success. Eventually, the pelican goes blind and is unable to fish at all.

4. WORD OF MOUTH MARKETING

Businesses have used word of mouth marketing for years. In the case of the liquor industry, it was not uncommon to have paid agents visit trendy bars, order the brand of choice (normally an unknown import) and strike up conversations with both barkeeps and customers in order to establish or talk up a cool image. In many cases it worked!

5. SUCCESS

Studies by Harvard, Stanford and the Carnegie Foundation suggest that success on the job depends 85 percent on people skills and only 15 percent on technical knowledge.

6. ORGANIZATIONS AND GEESE

Geese fly in a Vformation where each bird must take a turn at fighting the wind and being the leader. Each must know the common destination and choose the right course and speed. At any given moment each bird must be capable of leading all the others.

7. CREATIVITY

Creativity does not come from inspiration. Creativity comes from knowledge.

Would You Like To Recieve Hundreds Of New Channels

Would You Like To Recieve Hundreds Of New Channels For Free?

by: Alex Porter

Your probably thinking, free? nothing is free right?

Wrong! This brings us to the idea of Satellite TV which iกm sure you know about through the dishes you see at your neighbourกs house or while your driving to the mall. Dishes have just about come up everywhere. Yesterday i was in a remote town where itกs difficult to locate a store unless you drive 20 miles into the city. However, i was surprised to see a satellite dish. They are just everywhere.

So why do you need a satellite dish?

Often we get bored with the same programmes that are offered to us as viewers through TV. When your watching tv and you want to see something new, you find out that youกve seen it already. The reruns on all shows has gotten so boring that we want something new. This is where satellite tv comes into play.

What will satellite tv bring to me that i dont have already?

The question you want to ask really is what doesn’t satellite tv have. TV gets boring after a while, we all know that. But often we like to relax and watch a good movie or something interesting. Thats why you need satellite TV. Having satellite TV installed in your home will mean that you can watch channels covering movies, sport, documentaries, adult and everything else you can name. Not only will you be able to watch channels in every language but you will be able to watch channels from every country in the world.
